Survey about Phantom Impact

Basic disclaimer: I don't work for FFG or claim to have any relation to them. This survey is just for my own, and community, edification. I'm looking for some quick and dirty data to back up or refute claims about the Phantom and current 'state of the metagame' that seems to pervade conversations lately. Attached is a survey. I'll let it run a few days until the number of submissions subsides.

(I enjoy meta-game discussions and I'm interested in how people have an impact on the games they play, it's part of the fun to me... that's really all there is - data and corollaries will be available once the survey is closed.)

People really just need to stop whining and play the farking game. You don't always need to win and even losses can be fun when you aren't dealing with over competitive waac people who need to run the latest "best" list

I've actually taken out phantom list without a Falcon quite a few times. Now I probably can do it as reliably without one, but its not like there are other list that can't do it. I don't think the problem lies with the Phantom.

I vote that the phantom has a positive impact on the game, and there should be positive changes to make it better over time.

Yt is a bigger problem then the phantom.

I completed the survey, however, I think you should provide an "other" option where people can enter their own response, especially for questions 9 and 10. I definitely can think of other answers for those questions.

I don't see any problem with this, especially if the survey is mostly for your own use.

Also, Wave 5 is coming, so I wouldnt be too hasty to post or duscuss any results until we see the changes it provides. Turrets will be more common now not JUST to stop thr Phantom, but because there are just plain more to pick from, all with cool new upgrades.

Thanks for doing something like this, though. Getting people's opinions in one place is good. There are so many forum posts about it that sifting through can be hard.

Yt is a bigger problem then the phantom.

true, phantoms are glass cannons, have many counters, requries good flying and can be done with 1 turn, PS11 super Han Solo with Z-95 escort can win VS almost everything what is not direct counter to it (like 8 TIE-f). 360 turret don't require arc-shooting, gunner/luke with Han's ability is very effective attack and high PS with EU allows arc-dodging and killing weaker ships befor return fire and 3CPO grants sure 1 evade every turn.

YT is more of a problem. Phantoms can be countered by various different things. Good arc coverage,blocking, similar ps maneverable ships.

Last few questions did not do my answers justice. I feel like fat Han is a problem even without the phantom.

A lot of lists have big big big problems dealing with that list. Not flying well to find the phantom. Phantom can be engaged in dogfighting manner with high ps ships.

Fighting Han is a lot about statistics and just throwing a crap ton of dice at him because you can literally never have an end game vs him.

I think MajorJuggler's work will be a little more useful in determining the actual balance of the game. People aren't rational, especially when it comes to losses. Take a look at the pvp forums of any MMORPG for proof.

What do you mean by that? There's only one wave when I started purchasing, it has nothing to do with recent/less recent.

The question may be better worded as: "What was the newest wave when you started purchasing X-Wing?"

If there was just the X,Y,TIE Adv and TIE Fighter when you started playing - that's Wave 1.

I'm missing a superlative on the 'what to do about the phantom' question. I originally had it setup as a multiple response - but changed it at the last minute (before releasing the poll) to a single response so I had 1:1 responses. It's not a perfect poll (and potentially that question may be the least telling of the bunch due to folks having multiple complaints).

Ok, I got it now. I think I left out a word while reading.

I'm more concerned with the YT 1300 than the Phantom. I still think turrets should have had a firing arc restriction (Front and sides only, no rear), which would have made maneuvering work far better.

I agree with phild0 that maybe a short answer would work better for 8, 9, and 10.

Further, I would like to go on record saying that I am displeased about the TIE Phantom only because it forced a change to my personal playing style. I can now defeat Phantom lists without using a Falcon regularly now, but I am not flying what I enjoyed flying the most anymore because mid-skill Rebels are so easily defeated by ACD if they are not killed outright without being able to shoot.

I don't feel as if I jumped onto a hurt bandwagon mainly because it was what I experienced as a direct result of the Phantom, specifically, Echo w/Vi and ACD. Lining up multiple arcs in opposite directions and still ending up like Pops Krail after he escaped the trench (they came from behind...ball of fire) was not fun. I am normally a pretty gracious loser because it was normally something that happened because I made a rookie mistake. Facing the Phantom irked me because I felt I was doing everything right, flying clean and still losing.

I guess I only really have beef with ACD on Echo and Whisper really.

Again, I don't lose as often anymore to Phantoms, but I am not flying what I like because they were consistently outmaneuvered by higher PS with ACD.

Just my two cents.

Post script, pre-edit. I can understand why so many turned to the Falcon because they didn't want to guess where an ACD Phantom would show up, and I really feel for the Interceptor Pilots the most because there was indeed a huge shift that essentially brought more Falcon lists around. As annoying as it is seeing the same Falcon lists all the time, for some reason I find them pretty easy to bring down during tournament play.

I would say it already has. Of course, tourney after tourney we keep seeing the same two ships walk home with the prize and people keep saying "Just wait. The meta hasn't settled." So maybe it hasn't. Or maybe even data isn't enough. We see plenty of real world examples of this.
