Why play Outrider when you can play Han + C-3PO + Lando + EI?

By cyclopeatron, in X-Wing

Outrider seems like a cool ship that could be a lot of fun, but I'm pretty worried about how competitive it might be. Two main concerns:

1. The Outrider + HLC rang 1 no-fire zone is horrible. When I play against Outriders this is pretty easy to exploit.

2. The YT-2400 includes Lando and Experimental Interface cards. The Han + C-3PO + Lando + EI combo will make Han even more difficult to pull down. I mean, wow...

I guess my question to you all is: assuming you want to play a competitive list to win games, what would attract you to the YT-2400 instead of what will be an even stronger new Han build?

I just don't see the HLC and Rendar's ability making up for the outrageous durability of the next wave Han build...

It's cheaper. And no, it's not really easy to get into range 1. 'Cause the 2400 can Barrel Roll. Also, the 2400's dial is better and EI stresses the falcon. And 4 attack is better than 3 and 2 agility is better than 1.

Lando is unpredictable. The main reason why C-3P0 is so good, is because he reduces variability. You just know that at that critical moment when you really need Lando's rolls, he is going to completely wiff. You also lose Gunner, which is a huge benefit against 4 agility Phantoms, and range 3 HLC Outriders.

Sure the 2400 can barrel roll, but so can named Phantoms and Interceptors who move after every potential pilot but Dash with VI. I think that donut hole will be an easy target for the right ships.

Why? because 4 attack dice is better than 3.

putting engine and using boost/ barrel roll makes it very difficult to do.

Biggest problem will be barrel rolling that big ship and not bumping or running into an astroroid.

Not worried about EI Falcons. A Falcon's got to dodge the arcs of the opposing force or it'll crash and burn: even with C-3PO's two points of cushioning. A Falcon on just its green dial isn't going to be dodging much.

Bumping is potentially an issue, but for asteroids, fear not!

Dash with EU and ptl fixes this, yea?

The real question is, why would you NOT want to fly that? :D

You may ignore during the activations phase and get your action, but when you shot you still are giving the defender one more die. Depending on the angle of course.

I do not want to spend 50 + points on ONE ship.

Because it's Rebel Scum! Also it's 58 points.

I can't think of a reason not to, mj. Probably pair it with Corran or two a-wings.

I may use this with like 4 Z-95s. Or 3 z95 and give two missles.

I would definitely love to fly AGAINST that! ;)

58 points invested into a PS7 large base ship with minimal defensive tricks and a blind spot...!

IMO VI will have to included to make Rendar competitive in the current atmosphere.

Not sure why people think VI is the go to. In a large ship like that, any other EPT takes priority, hey even ruthlessness would be a goodone. PtL though makes dash or leebo amazingly versatile.

Ruthlessness is Imp only. Why does everyone forget that?

Don't forget, Rebel Captive will greatly hinder the use of EI, not to mention anyone using Tactician or anything of the sort.

Remember, Dash ignores asteroids for Movement and Actions, not shooting. If he barrel rolls onto an asteroid, he's not shooting.

Dash w/ ptl, engine, outrider, HLC, and Kyle will be the new bee's knees. It is nothing short of incredible.

Did I say for the YT? No, said large ship base, and also was saying any EPT for a large base would be worth while over VI due to it not needing to get shots in as quick.

Yes, you did. But anyway, VI is needed because PS9 is very highly needed right now.

As a counter-list, I am thinking of:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau + VI + Engine Upgrade + Mara Jade + Ysanne Isard (58)

Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS + Rebel Captive (42)

Edit: or:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau + VI + Engine Upgrade + Mara Jade + Intelligence Agent (55)

Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS + Gunner (44)

The VT-49 will hunt down and drop stress bombs on any high-priority PS9 or lower ship.

Against Fat Falcons, fly VT-49 right up near Han to deal out stress and roll 4 dice against him. Keep Whisper at further range, so even if PS9 Han has initiative and you only have 2 defense dice, you make it a difficult choice for who to shoot at.

Against swarms... well, good luck. Try to stress out the swarm with Mara, while simultaneously arc dodging. You'll probably get one turn of minimal fire if all the TIEs are stressed and can't K-turn.
