How many of you are burned out?

By Jango, in X-Wing

I think I'll wait until Wave 6 hits the shelves before attempting X-wing seriously. There is so much content being released I want to wait until the dust settles a bit. The meta has been completely smashed (which is good and bad).

The options after Wave 6 will be staggering.

As a new player I want to get a feel on movement and spacing so even with lots of new things on the horizon I'm going to play some more to be more adapt at the game.My pilots need to get in more flights to not keep running into each other.

I also need to try to play as or against the more competitive squads to understand them better.

The meta is not smashed. Tie swarms are just as good as any other list. Too many people blow things out of proportion.

Not burned out yet, then again I can only find a few games one night out of the week.

Me.

No job, no money.

Lack of time to play.

Court proceedings dragging on thru the summer.

This **** company seems to have more star wars games latley than any thing else.

I'm not even sure whats supposed to come out first. Aces I think. Of course by the time we all get our hands on it

It will seem like old news cause everyone is looking for the next wave etc.

A wave or two ago it felt like most normal ships saw play. The a-wing and tie advanced were of course weak, but you regularly saw b-wings, x-wings, y-wings, falcons, TIEs, bombers, interceptors, and even shuttles.

Now it seems like every list is either TIE swarm, phantom + whatever, or uber falcon + whatever. The whole "han with VI is how you beat phantom" is the most blatant rock paper scissors balance I've seen in this game. Tons of ships seem to have fallen by the wayside with the introduction of the z-95 and phantom.

I'm not happy with the meta. Pretty burned out right now, maybe wave 6 will fix everything when it comes out in 2016 or whatever.

Doesn't hurt to keep building your experience with whats currently available. The more familiar and skilled you are with whats currently available, the better you will know how to apply the new when it arrives. If you intend to play seriously, I'd keep at 'er if I were you. :D

In this interview with Team Covenant, the head X Wing designers state there's a greater diversity than ever seen before in the highest stages of tournaments. I think the meta is smashed in a good way.

I agree, they are consciously trying to stir the pot and keep lists diverse.

People tend to freak out whenever a new idea or card is introduced because they play 1 or 2 games against it and lose because they haven't figured out how to beat it yet. That's what keeps the game fun, the continual challenge of defeating your opponent's new squad.

Go into each game with a positive attitude and relish the tactical challenges.

The meta is smashed. You're in denial.

You seem quite certain about this for someone who hasn't yet "attempt[ed] X-wing seriously".

Who cares? Just build a team, and play the game. If they do poorly, either figure out how you could play better, or modify the list, or try a new list.

Rinse repeat.

Remember when games were about having fun?

Z0m4d, that's actually false and has been debunked using Major Juggler stats. Around a 60% of the lists are either Falcon / Phantom variants, while around the 55% prewave 4 were 4 rebels/Tieswarms. Of course this doesn't mean the game is on a poor state.

Back OT, i am nowhere close to burned out. I am hoping for wave 5 getting released soon enough so i can kill as many turreteers with my tie swarm as possible. After it, i will get autothrusters and god, i really hope i can play then interceptors lists again.

MJ either wasn't limiting entirely on the North American Championship at GenCon, which is what the designers were referring to, or the designers flat out lied, which I highly doubt.

Oh yes the stats from MJ are wider, but then again, taking one tournament as your sample for diversity is already quite limiting on itself.

Got burned working in my veggie patch today will play some x wing later to cool down

If the meta in your area is stale, I feel sorry for you. Currently every one is trying out new things here and its been a blast. I have a tournament list I am comfortable list but I have been playing around with 2 uber defenders (highly successful with this surprisingly). The meta isn't thrashed either, people are just to focused on it and aren't diversifying, which again, isn't the game its the players.

Everyone's discussing the meta and how to beat fat falcon/phantom, and I'm just sitting here waiting for Rebel Aces so I can mess around with my A-wings again.

yeah. i still want my wave 4 and wave 5 and rebel aces.

Migh be done after that for a bit.

Not happy with the needed cards from the YT24 that I don't really want to get.

X-Wing is like a moving river ... it never will stop ... so you may as well jump in feet first , and drown with the rest of us ... :P

Not really burned out in my area. I still do X-wing demo's on Tuesday nights at the local here. The local meta here has moved to 2 falcon lists and Whisper lists. I just tend to fly whatever I feel like flying on tourney day. Makes the game more fun...for me at least.

I play in a league at the FLGS, we have about 20 players that are in and out and about 10-12 regulars who come every week. Among the regulars, there are people that play a different list every game and people who play a similar list, but most often they're not the super competitive Falcon or Phantom lists that show up a lot in tournaments, though those ships turn up occasionally. There is one guy who often plays a TIE swarm, but honestly, it helps to get practice against him. I'm pretty happy with the game and I like that it's been changing a lot lately.

I understand where you are coming from, but not in terms of X-Wing.

When I play games, I sort of go all-in on them, and they become more than just my hobby. I think about strategies and list composition all day. Eventually though, I end up taking breaks from the game. Once, I even took a year-long break from another game, but when I saw the new available models, I dived right back in.

Just go ahead and take a break. Enjoy other things. The game, and your models will be waiting for your return. :)

Yes, quite the convincing argument there
