So, I got a weird question of sorts. We've got our Hans, our Dashes, our Decimator pilots, and... I really just wonder.
...How often, when two big ships fight, do they end up broadsiding it out? At what point does it turn into that shot in Episode III where a Venator pummels the Invisible Hand? Seriously this has to happen here and there with all these insanely tanky turret ships.
Broadsiding Action! But not with epic ships?
I've never seen that with large ships, but I have been part of an epic game where the Imps were allowed to use CR-90s, and let me tell you, two corvettes circling each other duking it out with turbolaser cannons was a sight to behold
This makes me wonder if the Decimator crew cards will synergize with an Imperial CR90. Anyone tried it yet?
Nobody at our LGS had a Decimator, but in theory I think Rebel Captive and Fleet Officer would both be really cool on a CR-90
Edited by ThatJakeGuyDon't think Ysanne will do as well, due to the Shield regen, but I think everyone else would be good on them.
Vader isn't, believe it or not.

Don't think so. I may be wrong on this, but I'm fairly certain that if a Huge ship ever gains a focus token it goes away (like stress tokens do).
Fleet Officer is give two focus tokens to allied ships then take a stress and Rebel Captive is the first ship to shoot you each turn is stressed.

It does. Which lessens the cost of a Fleet Officer to just an action. Don't see any problems with that.
It's not exactly broadsiding if you are using large ships. Since every ship but Huge Ships in X-Wing has a square base they cannot broadside per se.
And broadsiding is actually a pretty bad tactic for a ship. We all know it because it looks cool in movies but the reality of the maneuvers that involve it are somewhat different; if broadsiding a ship exposes much of its surface to the enemy, making it a huge target to be shot at, effectively trading it's only defense (minimizing the area that could be targeted) for an increase in attack power which it may not be able to utilize.
In Early Modern naval combat broadsiding was most common in so called "line engagements" in which both sides had their respecitive fleets moving in lines paralell to each other, firing to cripple enemy ships or at least to force ships in the enemy line to disengage (as the aim of naval combat back then was not to sink an enemy ship but to either force it out of the fight or to board and capture it). The side that fought in a upwind position was usually favoured as the ship were more capable of maneuvering (as they had the wind blowing into the sails at a favourable angle) and their guns were in more favourable position as far as balistics were concerned (as the ship rolled slightly with the wind).
Having the upwind advantage and the enemy being at a disadvantage for being downwind usually made for a trade-off that made line engagement a viable tactic for a stage of combat.
As we have no "upwind" or "downwind" in X-Wing there is no favourable position in a broadside engagement, basically taking away the advantage/disadvantage-set that made the tactic viable - so the more sound, although less cinematic, tactic would be to avoid a broadside engagement.

Good summary, 0rph3u5!
Unless, like the Tantive, all your guns are on the broad side.
Even then, you want to cross the T, so as to minimize return fire.
Crossing the T (in case anybody needs the explanation), is where your ship cuts across the bow or stern of the enemy, in order to expose all of your main guns while preventing the enemy from firing with all of theirs.
You're pretty awesome Orpheus.
Still. Why don't we have imperial big ships yet? Sooner or later were gonna get scum big ship griping
