New Pics of the new Ep. VII X-Wing

Interesting...didn't see orange and black coming.

Agreed. It's interesting. I like the white and blue better though.

I want to see more of the non-Rebels/New Republic stuff! Who cares about Scum?

I like the new X-wing design. They look sexy.

As 'cool' as a black X-Wing is, it's going to be really hard to see in space, which from a movie POV is a real pain - as I said in the other thread ... if we see this in space at all in the movie, it will be with a nebula backdrop.

Also when the FFG CEO was talking in the in-flight report about LFL 'pushing back' when their proposals hit something that crossed into new movie territory, I wonder if maybe they proposed coloured Rogue Squadron X-Wings and they got pushed back on because of this.

My guess was pushback on them releasing EU ships that will show up in the new movies, because they will be changed in appearance, or because LFL wants them to be more surprising to see. For example, imagine if we had a skipray blastboat model come out, and then it shows up in the movie 6 months later.... LFL would not be pleased, I imagine.

Alternatively, if the design was EU-inspired, but not exactly the same as depicted in the EU illustrations, that would also be awkward. Imagine if we got a skipray that matches all the EU artwork, and then one shows up in the movie and is significantly different - that puts FFG in an awkward spot.

more interesting is the drone used to get those pics...

Doubtful. Star Wars merchandise spoils a lot before the actual movie.

It looks pretty meh, I hope the Ys are better. They BETTER have Ys in the movie.

Well, not likely. The Y-Wing was an antique in Episode IV, and this is 30 years after Episode VI. I sure hope the Alliance has long ago upgraded to B-Wings and is now beginning to roll out the next-gen replacement for that.

Would be like expecting to see a Sopwith Camel in 1944...

Well you could make a similar argument for replacing X-Wings with E-Wings or you could just accept that old designs can get new upgrades and new iterations... sides isn't the YT-1300 (Millenium Falcon) a helluva lot older than the Y-Wing (or at least the variants seen in Ep. IV)?

I say give me Y Wings. Best fighter in the saga. I just dont trust these spoilers though. It seems a bit odd to have all this stuff out in the open where anyone can see it. Considering all the secrecy of the production

In all fairness the guy taking the pics had to be a fair way 'up in the air' to see it as they're ariel photo's... Not like he was just walking past and whipped out his iPhone!

read yesterday the black x-wing is pilotted by a stormtrooper character

There's an amazing invention, it's called a Helicopter.

*crosses fingers for old Soontir Fel*

Funny you mention B-52's. They're actually planning to have them in service with the US Airforce until 2040. Talk about tried and true design!

But surely new designs merely 20 years younger outdo it in EVERY way!

:P

Nah given the money wasted on the x-35 they just can't afford to replace em :P

Oh you must have forgotten, NONE OF THAT EXISTS THANKS TO DISNEY     :(. But even then, Y-wings were still in use as late as 40 Aby.
