Is Corran Horn + Eating a Boat too expensive for a 100pt squad?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Was just fiddling, and I thought hmm, that'd be cool, but is it too much for one squad?

I was thinking something along the lines of:

Corran Horn
Fire-Control System
Marksmanship

Eating A Boat*
R2-F2
Stealth Device

Blue Squadron Pilot (or something - this was filler)

but that's a lot of points in two ships isn't it? Also, I made Eating more defensible, thinking he'd be a target, but maybe he wouldn't be so much (after all, when Corran's dead Eating's ability loses much of it's impact), so could re-assign some points there.

What y'all think?

*I wonder if he ate the boat that was carrying Rebel Aces...

Ten hit points isn't alot and green dice betray you at the worst times so it's risky.

Plus with decimator on the way you can't rely on arc dodging.

Crit city. It would do a lot of first-round damage, unfortunately one of your strongest shots would be at PS 0, so you're going to get shot back. I played a similar build to that Corran in my first tourney. It's not very forgiving. If you take MM then you stand a good chance of losing him before he even fires twice. I would probably do ptl on Corran before I tried that list personally.

Good points. Regarding the Deci though, he's only got four shields - you'd have a good chance of doing some crits to him pretty quickly.

It's true though, there's a good chance of dying before getting much use out of Corran. Not as tough as a Corran & Biggs list, certainly.

Sure you'll strip the decimator shields quick but that's your first round of shooting gone doing it you then face four shots with expose from decimator and possibly six from howl and two ties, your going to lose shields for sure and if your unlucky you can lose coran before he double taps.

Not to mention rebel captive could stress him for the next turn making him predictable while having no attack.

Once corans down ethan isn't much of a threat.

A decimator or falcon with a gunner will be tough. 360 ships would be very punishing if you can't take them out before losing anything. Against small elite squads I could imagine that Etahn + Corran is very strong, played a list of those two alone once, against an Interceptor, a Defender and Echo. I was a bit lucky in that game, but I wouldn't recommend using two E-wings in the same list, it'll simply be too expensive for something that is either super strong or very weak depending on the dice.

With the given list, I'd try to find a place to trim 2 points (probably from Etahn, since I don't like R2-F2 very well here) and run them alongside a pair of Bandits. I'd be really interested to see how that list does, actually.

Eating A Boat*

Does it take less effort to do this than to write "Etahn"?

Ooh, I love that idea! I'll get rid of both upgrades on him and rethink how to spend those four points from scratch. Maybe R2D2? Something to help his own attack might be nice though, maybe PTL? Definitely gonna try this squad!

More effort, but it's more fun, and also doesn't require remembering the spelling, or where the apostrophe goes. I'm terrible at spelling real words, let alone made up names.

Yes because you don't have to open another tab to find the correct spelling.

Etahn thrives off of numbers: he's a group support piece. You can use him in a three ship squad just as you could use Howlrunner in one, but you're not getting the best of their ability.

I would try to give both Ewings repair droids, like R2D2 and R5P9. Also, I generally prefer using Eating with 3 atk dice ships than with Z95s, since the crits would more likely go thru that way

Just thinking out loud (due to the unfreezing process i have no inner monologue), I Wonder if Etahn and a swarm of Z's would do alright against a Decimator.... mopping up the escort could be another story though.

Max out the 2 E-Wings with extra goodies and drop the third ship.

Call the list Starsky and Hutch, Hardcastle and McCormick, Dempsey and Makepeace, (or something).

Job done! :)

Eating's ability covers his own attack, doesn't it?

Yeah, I think Eating and a swarm would do well against a Decimator. I think the Eating, Corran and two Headhunters squad should do alright against one.

Going to be honest, I always hear it in my head as eating a butt.
