Arrrrgh..! Disaster!

By Gadge, in X-Wing

Playing the Tantive campaign with the wife last night...

Left it all out in the dining room to play pt2 (rebel win in pt 1 for me).

My mates dog i'm looking after got in the room and has eaten the front off the tantive, wrecked a blood stripe TIE interceptor entirely and mangled a TIE/ln

Gutted.. in the uk thats about £110 worth of damage!

I'd be mad as all get-out. Thank goodness my corgi never gets into trouble.

Man... that just plain sucks. :( I hope your friend will pay you for at least part of the cost to replace them (I'd pay you the full amount if it were my dog).

I have a suggestion though, once you replace the models you can use the old ones for debris/wrecks. Just a thought.

My friend is terminally ill, he's on holiday to have a last 'hurrah' with his wife before chemo makes it impossible.

Thats why i'm looking after his dog for a week,

I'm not mad with the dog, she's stressed and missing her 'parents'.

I've wrote FFG a long letter with pics hoping they can help given the circumstances.

I dont really want to tell a dying man his dog has wrecked my stuff, he's got bigger issues.

I was *really* hacked off this morning when i discovered it had happened but i can sort of see the funny side now

We had Corgis in my family until i was about 19 and went to Uni.

Lovely dogs, people under estimate them and think they are lap dogs and then are surprised when a 'cattle dog' is as strong as an ox!

The dog in this event was a jack russel

Suck about your friend and your models, on the bright side you now have three pieces of wreckage ready for wave five.

Yeah exactly, in the grand scheme of things its toys.

I'd burn the lot if i could make my mate well.

It was just really annoying this morning and i needed to vent.

Could be worse... a few years ago when my dog Rupert was a pup i couldnt find my passport anywhere.. eventually found chewed to pieces at the back of the garden.

That cost about £100 to replace too....

In this particular scenario I recommend speaking to Clavicus Vile.

He's always got a solution; it probably won't get you your models back but **** if it won't be cathartic.

Wait!
Back up....
Did I read that right,
It was a Jack Russel Terrier?
That breed is one of the smartest dogs in the world.
So I only wonder for a second how she got on the table.
But they are so smart, I'd almost believe it if you said
the dog had seen the movie and it was a fan reenactment.

:P

No but seriously, after reading the following,

I have no doubt it was revenge pure and simple.

She was thinking "I'm not gettin my exercise because of that!"

Temperament

A Jack Russell terrier is a dog with a moderate to a high level of energy
Jack Russells are first and foremost a working terrier. Originally bred to bolt fox from their dens during hunts, they are used on numerous ground-dwelling quarry such as groundhog, badger, and red and grey fox. The working JRT is required to locate quarry in the earth, and then either bolt it or hold it in place until they are dug to. To accomplish this, the dog won't bark but will expect attention to the quarry continuously. Because the preservation of this working ability is of highest importance to most registered JRTCA/JRTCGB breeders, Jack Russells tend to be extremely intelligent, athletic, fearless, and vocal dogs. It is not uncommon for these dogs to become
moody or destructive if not properly stimulated and exercised, as they have a tendency to bore easily and will often create their own fun when left alone to entertain themselves.

Their high energy and drive make these dogs ideally suited to a number of different dog sports such as flyball or agility. Obedience classes are also recommended to potential owners, as Jack Russells can be stubborn at times and aggressive towards other animals and humans if not properly socialized. Despite their small size, these dogs are not recommended for the condominium or apartment dweller unless the owner is ready to take on the daunting task of providing the dog with the necessary amount of exercise and stimulation. They have a tremendous amount of energy for their size, a fact which can sometimes lead to trouble involving larger animals. They may seem never to tire and will still be energetic after their owner has called it a day. While socialised members of the breed are friendly towards children, they will not tolerate abuse even if it is unintentional.

Well he destroyed rebel and imp stuff he must be a S&V player.

hope he survives the digestion portion of all that hard plastic.

But that is the other great counter to games: A spastic animal and a little child with markers.

I dont think Lucy (the dog) actually swallowed any thing, i've found most bits, including some very small parts just chewed up.

I'd have had her down the vets stright away if i thought she had sharp plastic in her.

anyway she's just been picked up to go home.

Like i say, in the grand scheme of things its no big deal, hopefully FFG will help by replacing my TIE and TIE in (cant see them doinga full CR90 even though i've sent them photos of it pre and post damage)

If not I'll just have to suck it in and buy new ones.

Unless anyone wants to donate a blood stripe tie in, a tie line and a CR90 or parts thereof? :)

Well on the plus side... the dog did not eat the Tantive's upgrade cards (which are probably what people are the most after)...

Small consolation though.

yeah there was a lot of cardstock and cards on the table and luckily none of it seems to have been eaten

I couldnt find a token for the 'recover' action of the tantive.... i cant remember if it actually has one.

It was missing pre game if it exists though

Excellent point. If he has to buy another CR-90, he can at least sell the extra Han/C-3PO cards and probably not make out too bad overall. I think those two if sold individually would cover at least half of the cost of the CR-90 (3PO in particular).

Ouch, that really sucks (on both counts). Hope you can get them replaced easily, and hope things go as painless as possible for him.

yeah

I've sent FFG a really long email and i'm hoping they are kind about it.

As for my mate, well we dont know how long he's got so i'm just trying to do as much with him as possible and he's just trying to get by normally. sucks though as he's very close, both our families are.

I just needed to vent about both things a bit i think.

If she hadnt have been belting around the park for an hour with the other three dogs earlier that evening i'd possibly have agreed with you.

I think the issue was that our dogs sleep downstairs in the front room, my friends is used to sleeping in his sons room on his bed.

I think she took exception to being made to 'stay with the other dogs' and got stressed out

Can't see why you contacted FFG. Yes they have a fantastic replacement service for packaging mishaps, and from what I've read on this community before they helped replace someone's stuff after it got nicked. But seriously yes it's a real downer for you. Especially with what your friend is having to go through (hopefully all the best to him) but why contact FFG. We're they careless in any regards to your belongings. NO.

Sorry If I sound rude but suck it up. Buy replacements. As been said some of the cards have a great resale market so you'll get some discount.

And there's always one prick that has to turn up...

OP: Sorry about your losses.

Ah.. well, color me embarrassed. :o

That explains - and changes - everything. Of course in this situation I wouldn't say anything either.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I'll keep a good thought. :)

Yeah massively rude if i'm honest.. good job we're not in the same pub right now eh?

I've fully explained to FFG that I dont expect freebies and i've asked if i can buy replacement components so i dont have to fork out for over £100 of ships i dont need the cards for.

I'm hoping they will see the 'arrrgh no' and then the slightly funny side of this and be charitable.

I did close off with 'help me FFG, you're my only hope!'

But yeah, it did come across as an incredibly poor thing to say. Given i've woken up to find loads of my fave stuff trashed and i'm trying to laugh it off you could have perhaps not have rubbed salt in the wound by telling me i'm careless :)
