TIE Advanced?

So I am wondering if in the current meta if TIE Advanced is a worthy ship to run? I want to run it because of Darth Vader, but looking at the stats, it seems like it's not a viable ship to run as there are better options. It has shields, but so do the Phantom and the Defender, plus those ships have slightly better overall stats it seems than the Advanced.

The few things that make it seem viable are Vader's PS9, and his ability to perform 2 actions, but that's not really that great, and Swarm tactics which would boost another ship's PS to match Vader.

Is there anything I am missing that makes the Advanced worthwhile?

Vader +engine upgrade+ outmaneuver is a very deadly ship but he is expensive. The only other thing I have run is Maark Stele +opportunist and I have had good success with him. The generic pilots are completely worthless.

You basically summed it up and a search function would reveal countless similiar threads about the advance. The only thing that can be said is that FFG promised some love for the advance, but we'll have to be patient in the meantime ;)

Not sure, but I think that Vader could find his spot on Epic games, isn't he?

Proton rockets on a loaded Vader is not too bad. Again, it is super-overpriced but it's not worthless.

I agree that the search function here is terrible, but Google is actually fairly reliable. You can search for "site:community.fantasyflightgames.com my search string goes here" and get pretty much anything that's more than a couple of hours old.

Searching "site:community.fantasyflightgames.com tie advanced fix|broken" takes you here, which is actually... even more threads than I thought, actually. :unsure:

I must say, I still love Darth Vader's TIE/x1. It's a super flexible ship. Even without any upgrades, it can be super accurate, evasive, or mobile.

I think we have trouble with the TIE Advanced because it is just too advanced! It has evolved far beyond our understanding. Perhaps in the far future when we evolve to a higher state our brains will be able to fathom the role that this ship is supposed to perform. For now though, all we can do is gaze into the stars...and wonder.

The only problem I see with the TIE Advanced is that it has only 2 Attack Dice. I can't justify that many points for a ship that can't reliably deal damage. It is the same problem all TIE Fighters have.

Vader is worth it, but not the others.....unless you are doing Epic gameplay. Having those Ties with missiles to take down the Tantive IV is one thing. In the regular skirmish game? Don't bother.

How you kit out Vader can be done different ways, depending on your list. I usually liked:

Vader w/ Concussion Missile and Swarm Tactics

Cheap Bomber w/ Concussion Missile and Cluster Missile

Dark Curse

2 x Academy Ties

Dark Curse and Academy move as the main focus. Bomber and Vader creep up the side. Try to get it that just Dark Curse is in range at that first fly pass. He usually lives (unless I roll really bad). At that same time, Vader and the Bomber fire at PS9 and shoot two Concussion Missiles at the same target. They can usually take something out that way, especially as Vader can then focus. I at least cripple a ship. Have the Tie Fighters then take that sucker out. After that, it's a matter of using the Academy to jam in the way of everyone else and swarm someone.

Just just one use for Vader. There are a lot of ways. Just make sure he fits your list.

Vader is good.

Maarek Steele is ok if you build around him.

I have never used a Storm SQ Pilot.

I have had good success with a Tempest SQ Pilot as a TL caddy and blocker for Vessery.

But ya, love is coming for them. And they will be amazing.

Points wise, he's expensive. But at the end of the day - it's VADER! :)

I just hope that love comes in the form of some kind of a TIE Advanced 'aces' pack, and not through a Scum and Villainy expansion.

Although i would gladly accept the Scum and Villainy upgrades.

There are some good brain storming threads about how FFG might improve the Advanced. I bet it's for Imperial Aces 2, and I bet is next. It might be trench run driven, Advanced and fighter

You will find dozens if not scores of threads telling you that that TIE Advanced is underpowered/overpriced.

Darth Vader is the notable exception. His high PS and Best ability in the game make him formidable. However his low attack dice (for his price) means that to use him effectively you need to give him a specific role. He works great as a flanker or a as a support ship (with squad leader or swarm tactics). I think he will be great with the new Proton Rockets.

The search is fine. Search by thread title.

I have tried many times to run Darth in what is probably his best build (Outmanuever + EU), but he is still so limited in damage dealing that it is a slow play as you hit people for 1-2 damage, 3 on a perfect day, per turn.

My sons and I were watching SW Ep IV last night (Theatrical Release DVD ftw!) and one commented:

What they fail to show is the TIEs that take down the X Wing shields earlier on in the battle . . .
