7-Z95s take down Decimator & 3 named Ties

By jpltanis, in X-Wing

Here is another interesting battle featuring the Z-swarm against a formible squad of Decimator & Howl, Wing Gundark, M. Mithel.

Hold on. Winged Gundark? Really?

Someone call Maarek Stele, he's up next!

:)

I don't even need the headline to figure out how that one went.

Seven Headhunters against a nearly-naked Decimator mean the big guy has two rounds to live, and then you'll have four or five remaining Headhunters against three TIE Fighters--they have great PS, but it's a relatively low-offense trio as long as you can stay out of Mauler's Range 1.

Actually, in the current meta, he's great! You know you are going to see a bunch of Falcons and other larger ships. Winged Gundark is only 15 pts and is PS5. He's cheap enough to fly under the radar and not be your main target right away. When you are looking for just another cheap ship to join your list, he's worth it.

Why isn't this in the battle report section?

It is very nice to see a fun battle report. I love this type of gaming more than any other.

^_^

Great job guys!

I'd rather pay 15pts for Night Beast as his ability is a guarantee if I do a green and am not stressed. Plus there is no range requirement.

Because this is the main board, where most of the users post.

Plus, it's a welcome change from the other nonsense that floods this board.

You would use Night Beast's ability more often, but Winged Gundark could have a bigger impact on the game. Po-tay-toe, Po-tah-toe.....

I cringed so many times watching that video.

The plethroa of Falcon lists is exactly why I would not take Winged Gundark. His ability is useless against a Chewie Falcon build. I'd rather spend the 15 points on Night Beast or a BSP with a 1 point upgrade that's always useful.

Nightbeast? Oh I can take 2 actions just about every turn... ok!

Backstabber, Nightbeast, Howlrunner. In that order.

Almost hate to agree with this one. The Swarm Squad isn't bad but the Decimator squad leaves me scratching my head.

Rebels:

Cracken, Bandit w/ Ion (x3), Bandit (X3)

Imperials:

Oicunn + Tactical Jammers + Opportunist

Howlrnner + Squad Leader

Maulter + VI

Winged Gundark

Yeah, I hesitated before posting it, because it's a great and thorough battle report and I don't want to come across as overly critical. And the swarm player mentions early in the video that he's inexperienced with large lists, and I think as a result it actually came out closer than I would have expected--meaning it looks like a fun, easygoing game, and I like watching those.

But yeah, I would have done some things differently with the Decimator list. I've wondered--and would be interested to have others chime in--how much people think their experiences (or lack thereof) with Falcon lists impact the way they build lists with the Decimator. Is there any comparison, or does it feel like completely unbroken ground?

Say it with me! ENGINE on Decimator.

Seriously. Put engine on your decimators.

On the top Decimators I'd definitely agree. Gives the Decimator a little bit of arc-dodging and reaction ability. The thing here is I'm a bit afraid of tearing into the Decimator squad build especially without taking the time to watch the entire video to see how it was used.

Great job at the battle report.

It was an expected result (a swarm can tear a decimator pretty fast, pretty fast, and with only 4 shields and no agility, it is eating crits soon... very soon), but really enjoyed even tho i couldn't watch it full, the production. Keep it up.

@Kelvan Agreed, people putting expose and experimental interface, haven't really tried it out against swarmy lists. They melt decimator like nobody's business, a much easier time than dealing with falcons. Range 3 ? 0 Agility. Ysanne ? Good luck you are already at half health and 1 evade token isn't going to save all the rest of the damage/ crits you are going to eat. Stressed ? Get blocked and focused down or do crappy damage.

One problem might be that Kenkirk is PS6 not PS9 like Han. Oicunn doesn't use it cuz hopefully you're ramming someone, losing your action or simply cant do a boost because you're ramming something.

Oicunn wants Engine Upgrade so he can take Daredevil. Admittedly that's 7 points, but it's a really fun 7 points.

If you're going for pure offense you might even go Mauler before howlrunner, especially if you're not going to stay at range 1. I think Howlrunner is nice here as a boost to the mostly naked Deci too but just to boost 2 other named ties... nah.

Did everyone catch that the Imperial squad was created with fore knowledge that it will be facing 7-Z95s? This should of given the Imperial a bit of advantage.

No one commented on the Z squad, which is interesting...

I must admit that I didn't think the Zs could win this fight. I was watching it to see how long the Zs can hold out.

Again, the lowly Zs surprised me.

I'm not surprised that they could win, I am surprised though that they did win, as just going all in on the Decimator right off the bat would have been a much better move in my opinion.

Actually no he doesn't because you need to include Dauntless to do that and a STRESS for NINE points.

All in all, its not worth it at all.

You're much better off just taking one hit and using Dauntless for 2 pts, and giving Oicunn some way of surviving like Isard.

But then, you might be better off with Kenkirk, who's the one I've got my eye on.

Or... Oicunn Dauntless and Darth Vader.

Nightbeast? Oh I can take 2 actions just about every turn... ok!

Where's Dark Curse? Have fun killing him with no focus or rerolls when he has a focus!

So he knew he was facing a swarm and willingly took that build...for reals?
