The Most Beautiful Rexler Brath Shot I've Ever Made...

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

Happened earlier today. There were two enemy ships on the board, one was an X-Wing with full health and the other was a Y-Wing with an Ion Cannon Turret and Flechette Torpedoes, against just me with Rexler Brath. After rolling attack and evade dice, 2 hits and 1 crit got through on the Y-Wing. One hit was stopped by the last shield, and the second hit and crit got through to the hull. The crit was Munitions Failure, so naturally my opponent ditched the torpedoes. The crit resolved, the card was flipped face down, and I triggered Brath's ability. Both cards were flipped face up, giving the Y-Wing a stress token and administering the Munitions Failure a second time, destroying his Ion Cannon Turret. Having arc-dodged the X-Wing and destroying the Ion Cannon Turret, no ships were able to fire on me that round. I know that's not the same as say, 3 Direct Hits on what was a full hull falcon, but it was certainly almost artistic in its beauty.

That's beautiful! :D

I've had a Rexler Shot that completely destroyed a Shuttle, and I've done the same to a Firespray. But somehow this was still more beautiful in some way. I think because it's the first time I've ever gotten to double up on a crit before (by having it be dealt, resolved, then flipped facedown, then flipped up and resolved again).

I did a minor explosion, flip it and the new card

too bad the new crits werent anything significant

My best was shooting a falcon I got 3/4 attacks as hits on him unsheilded, he rolls two blanks and I spend my focus they flip over I get direct hit, then I reduce his firepower by one and finally reduce his agility to zero.

Rexler didn't get the kill but he ensured the mini swarm had no problem finishing it off that same turn.

I've done that before too. Beautiful.

This wasn't a shot I made with rexler, but last week I nailed a kitted out soontir fel with the "ignore EPT and pilot abilities" crit, and the "you can't perform actions" crit in one roll.

I eventually lost to the mini swarm, but man, I'll always remember that shot.

On my 3DS I have a picture of an Academy TIE stripping Soontir's stealth device at range 3 through an asteroid with a focus and evade token.

But anyway, Let's keep this on topic: Back before I fell in love with HLC I gave him Ion Cannon, and I happened to Ion Soontir Fel who had already pushed the limit, and i flipped the crit to reveal a stress token (thrust control fire?). In one shot I got an Ioned, double stressed Soontir Fel (somewhat spoiled by the fact that he actually went on to survive it by rolling 3 evade results against every attack made against him for two turns).

Oh man, I hate when you go for broke and flip those cards, only to have it be completely pointless. Flipped three crits on a Falcon once, two were Munitions Failure and one was a stress token.

How do you outfit Rexler when you use him with mini-swarms? And what is said composition of these mini-swarms?

Personally speaking,

Predator on Rex

Then, Howlie with 3 Black Sq.

Well it was a 150 point game i think he had HLC and predator, miniswarm was Howl with 3 academy ties but i cant remember what else i took it was a while ago but that bit is what stuck in my mind from the game.

Thats legal? First solve the crits and then solve the same cards a second time??

I thought Sexler let you flip turn all your hits into crits after the damage had been done, but not before the cards were actually delt.

Example

Lets say Sexler with predator and focus at range 2, shoots a tie fighter.

Rolls a crit and 2 natural hits, tie fighter rolls 1 evade. You then decide to burn the focus, the 1 natural hit get turned into a crit, and then the tie player is dealt 2 crits.

But based on this, you would deal a hit and crit, resolve the crit, flip it facedown, and then I could focus to flip both cards back up?

The faq covers this, if you take a crit that has you turn it face down after it resolves it gets reactivated when rexlers ability is used because that happens after the initial results are complete.

So rexler can make you take a crit twice legally.

Yep. Rexlar works on cards that have been already dealt. Many crit effects are flipped facedown immediately after being resolved, which means they are facedown once all cards have been dealt. Rexlar gets to flip those cards up, and in some cases may cause them to trigger twice.

FOR THOSE WONDERING ABOUT REXLER'S ABILITY:

The exact text of the card reads: "After you perform an attack that deals at least 1 damage card to the defender, you may spend a focus token to flip those cards faceup."

Now, the two important parts are "after you perform an attack," and "deals at least 1 damage card." First, the "after you perform an attack" part means that the attack has been resolved in its entirety. This means that any cards that were dealt face up, but then flip themselves down are now face down. Since it says "1 damage card" and not "1 face down damage card", it doesn't matter how they were dealt to the ship, only that they are a) attached to it and b) face down.

I know the FAQ says this is legal, I am just spelling out exactly why it is legal for those who are curious, and so that possibly newer players can gain a deeper understanding of the finer points of the rules.

I'm waiting for the day that I land a genuine crit like Minor Explosion. Triggering it twice would be fun, but i wonder if the card assigned thanks to that card is also legal for rexler to flip.

When you deal a minor explosion as a crit and it deals an additional damage (card), do you flip it and the additional damage card over with Brath's ability? Or just the initial card dealt (just the minor explosion card)?

For example, say you deal a crit, Minor Explosion, it's resolved and an additional damage card is dealt. Bath spends the focus. Do you flip the Minor Explosion card and the new card, potentially dealing 4 damage on just a single crit (2 minor explosions)?

Yes, see the FAQ.

On topic of my best Rexlar shot. I had either three or four hits on Fat Han after a predator reroll and flipped the cards up for: -1 agility, -1 attack, and ignore pilot ability and upgrade cards.

I had one very similar, but instead of Injured Pilot it was Damaged Sensor Array.

Though it didn't use his ability, the other day I got 4 hits on an Academy TIE Fighter at range 3 through 2 asteroids with the Rexler using a HLC & Predator. We weren't sure if he got an extra die for each asteroid so just agreed on 1 for being generically obscured. He dutifully rolled 3 blanks and 1 focus and took to TIE Fighter off the table.

Correct, the number of obstructions doesn't matter. It's just one bonus die. Also, good for you for getting a good shot.
