*Off Topic (Shopping)* You Know You Do It! :D

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

So how many of you guys and gals maintain a little shopping cart with your favorite vendors?

Admit it, here among your fellow Wingers and shame that dirty ole collector devil.

:)

You know... you plan out future purchases in advance. You check on the updated status of out of stock items. You add and delete selections. You change quantities per items. You think about how you are going to use the toys when that day comes where you can actually buy them!

Then when you get that wonderful play money (after rent and life stuff is taken care of), you run off to that neat little online shop and ka-wap that complete order button with glee!!!

:D

Then you monitor the shipping info with that tracking number. On the day that you know your order is due to be delivered you are right there johnny (Janey) on the spot and the delivery person does not have to wait for you more than a few seconds!

Don't be afraid...

^_^

OK, you got me. :)

:D

I have a saber build in my cart on thecustomsabershop.com. I'm waiting to hear back about a job on campus (interview went well) and if I get that job, I'm hitting the "add to cart" button and building this thing.

I'm a lightsaber enthusiast. X-wing, however, keeps my funds pretty tied up

Did someone call my name? ^_^

Totally guilty...

I have a couple weeks of vacation coming at the beginning of each October; every year for the last four, I sell half of my vacation time back to my company for cash. I then use that cash to buy what ever toy I am wanting at the time. So... Between June and about the middle of October, I maintain a shopping cart at three or four different online retailers to buy computer parts or whatever game. That too and it allows me time to watch for sales sense I am a sales sniper.

It is fun to plan things out, and smart too.

:)

I mean when you are buying armies you want to get a few deals, and obtain what you need for your games... exactly, what you need.

I like how the majority of the people posting in this thread have the same picture.

We are all good guys and we buy a lot of good toys.

;)

Guilty as charged, mainly for older waves (I started playing when Imp Aces was released) but then new stuff comes out so I get that instead.

I maintain multiple carts only to check pricing. I did a large order from nws-online.net of wave 2 to fill out my fleet last year and I check local shops pricing versus online retailers.

There are some stores in town that are selling $15 expansions for $19. I don't shop there. There is a good hobby store that sells games at 33% markup only. It leads to weird pricing but they are my favourite FLGS so I buy my gaming stuff from them when I am only picking up one or two expansions.

I haven't saved up for the 3rd faction but it is going to get expensive unless I can get some deals. I priced it out that to see what the costs were. It is pretty scary how big the difference is where you bulk buy your ships.

I still just base my purchases around 100 point builds per EACH ship then generally round up one, particularly if its an odd number..lol...I do that for the pre orders as well.. occasionally i will pick something up like an extra CR-90 when they had it as the deal of the day.. I also split my orders between two of the bigger Miniature dealers.that way i also ovoid (Single points of failure). Like if one dealer doesn't get enough stock etc. although so far i haven't had that problem!!! I don't have a LGS. My wife also tends to buy me something every time she goes to Barnes & Nobel as well..one of these days i plan on painting some of the "Extra" ships i have accumulated!! but my other hobby (1/72 aircraft) keeps me pretty busy although i would be using the same paints and airbrush!! The hardest thing for me is determining how many of what to preorder when the lowest cost ship is not known yet, which is why I round up.. Its also a precaution against the earlier times when ships would sell out and one was forced to acquire stuff on ebay at outrageous prices!!! I remember when "Y"s were nearly impossible to get!!! Now what i really need is folks to play against/with!!!! BTW I like the little spread sheet. I did a similar thing and also keep track of my order numbers and what is coming from which place...

Oh, the spreadsheet is a good idea. Helps reinforce "look how much money I saved by spending money" logic.

But that always comes back to:

Me: "Honey, why do we have a pallet of toilet tissue stuffed into this closet"?

Her: "it was on sale, I saved us money".

Me: "Yes, but we live a block from the super market, if we run low", I roll my eyes here and shouldn't have, "we can go to the store like normal people".

Her: "Yep, we are not normal people though, look at all the Star Wars you have in there".

Me: "Really glad we have all this toilet paper", walking off deflated.

More so for board games, but my coolstuffinc wishlist has just exceeded 50 items.

Few more weeks of overtime, and I'll put a dent in that...

I was going to walk downtown this morning but UPS updated and my second Tantive is going to be delivered today rather than tomorrow.

I love modern technology when it works.

Let that nice lady have her extra paper. And don't ask here why she used up the good paper for decal making either.

Just keep being a good man and buy some more, but this time hide some of it so that when you need it it will be there.

;)

I don't shop online. However, my weekly games at the FLGS always start about 15 minutes late, I wonder why...

In order to keep from dumping loads into Star Wars, I've resorted to taking my change jar to the Coin Star at the end of every month and turning it in for an Amazon gift card. If I can't afford any ships with that, then I wait until I can.

Hahahaha, i know this feeling far too well. Las time I checked, my Miniature Market wishlits was at 136 items, but that was a couple months ago and I know I've added since then (and haven't taken anything away either)

I love the fact that Miniature Market is based in St. Louis, while I'm in Central Illinois. That means that whenever the shipment goes out, I'll have it by the time I get home from work the next day. :P

Although, that means that it stinks when it ships on a Friday. :(

My 6 year old son had almost $800 of Godzilla toys in the Amazon shopping cart the other day.

Don't store you shopping cart passwords!
