So the new turret in Most Wanted is called Auto-Blaster Turret.

By LavaDragon0308, in X-Wing

i zoomed in close and was able to read this and the header ATTACK: FOCUS, any guesses on what makes it special?

PLZ someone reply PLZ

Probably the default upgrade for the Scum HWK, which is supposed to be able to steal opponent's focus.

I would have a hard time believing it is anything but a turret version of the autoblaster cannon

that's just the name i don't know what it does.

This isn't exactly news. There's a few other upgrades and such that have been talked about for weeks now...

But good enthusiasm!

True but i'm just want my y-wing to be more than a ionizer.

He means he agrees whole heartedly with whatever is in "this" quote bubble.

Also, you might let more than 20 minutes go by before begging for replies next time. ;)

Hopefully you don't need to spend a focus. I wouldn't mind if it was like proton rockets where you just need to have a focus. It's definitely autoblaster, they said so at gencon but wouldn't say what it is. If it's a turreted version of the auto blaster cannon I hope it is ranged 1-2 and not just range 1 as that's a huge limitation. Maybe letting it be range 1-2 but only 2 dice with the same autoblaster effect.

I also could see them doing a 2 dice range 1-2 attack with a built in gunner effect where if you miss you can make another turret attack.

Maybe you misunderstood me, we don’t know what it does yet of course however I would be slightly miffed if it had an effect that was not “Range 1, Hits can't be countered by defence dice etc”

Refer Ion Cannon, Ion Cannon Turret & Ion Missile, one a cannon, one a Turret& one a missile but they all have the same effect.

TBH I really hope it's not but the Ion Weapon precedent seems solid

It will be pretty terrible if it requires focus (possibly spends it) and is limited to range 1, even if it does the ignore defence dice schtick. Well it could be useable on the Crow I guess. Actually I guess that fits pretty well with the way I have been playing the EngineCrow lately. But it will suck for Y-wings.

All the turrets are more expensive than their cannon counterparts, but if this more than 5 points it will be too much.

Guessing a combination of Blaster Turret and Autoblaster. Like Blaster turret it can attack outside of firing arc requiring a focus token to be spent. Like Autoblaster hits cannot be canceled with defense dice so the defender must use evade tokens or other results to prevent damage from hits. Likewise it will allow the defender to cancel critical hits first. As for the stats of Autoblaster it is fire power 3 at range 1. So the stats with the Auto-turret it will likely be firepower 3 and range 1.

However that is just speculation it is all subject to change and there are many days from now to release.

If you have to spend a focus token just to attack, even with an Autoblastery effect, there will be a problem. And the Range doesn't sound encouraging.

I think the focus spending requirement is meant to counter-balance the 360 degree attack capability. Also the range is to keep the ability from being too dominating. Put it on a HWK-290 with Recon specialist so it gets 2 focus per turn. Ships will keep their distance, especially Tie Interceptors and Tie Phantoms who have allot of agility dice that won't be of any good to them.

I suspect they realised the error of their ways with Blaster Turret and it will just require the focus and not spend it. But still, cost and range seem like major (potential) issues for it, but here's hoping for a nice surprise.

It makes me think how much better (and potentially viable) Blaster Turrets would be if they were Attack: Target Lock instead of Attack: Spend a focus. Though Att: TL has major downsides too, like pre selecting your target. At least Attack: TL would make Blaster Turrets somewhat useable on Y-Wings. But I digress.

No I don't think Blaster turret was a mistake. After all it is a 360 degree turret and they also included Recon Specialist with the expansion pack which will allow you to have 2 focuses a turn one to spend and one to modify if needed. Because the Blaster Turret requires focus they reduced the point cost to 3 where it is cheaper than the 5 point Ion Turret which can only do a maximum 1 damage a turn where as the Blaster Turret can do up to 3. Basically it allows you to play the HWK-290 as a mini-falcon. Heck you could team it up with Outrider HLC so that the HWK can handle the close targets and the Outrider can handle the far targets.

I don't see where you're getting the Focus part. Lets hope it's not another flavor of blaster turret.

I thinking would be cool if it was only 1 range band like just range two.

That would leave a safety bubble around the using for enemies but also reduce the amount of complaining as we can tell the whinners to simply "fly better" and leave them feeling hurt and confused.

This.

The blaster turret costs 4 not 3

It would be interesting if you could fire at additional targets at range 1 for a focus each. Though it is unlikely. Load up on the Crow and recon specialist and have at them.

the reason the blaster turret doesn't work is the difficulty of getting 2 focuses on the ship. Additionally it's useless when you're blocked. None of these issues are there with the ion cannon.

I can only read Attack, no sign of Attack: Focus. I don't think FFG would make the Blaster Turret mistake twice.

Nobody uses it except on Factory Kyle. Blaster Turret uses the HWK's two multifocus cards (Recon Specialist and Mouldy Crow) but it's next to useless on a Y-wing.

Ion Torpedo doesn't.
