Show Me Your Repainted Firespray Cockpit Windshield

By Farseerixirvost, in X-Wing

I think every Firespray repaint I've seen leaves the cockpit glass untouched. Which is quite fine. But as I plan for my Firespray repaint, I'm wondering if there's something that will make the cockpit look different, yet still good.

Anyone tackled the Firespray cockpit glass during a repaint? If so, lay it on me for inspiration!

Nobody has repainted a Firespray cockpit?

Maybe because that isn't a cockpit windshield

I thought that screen was about 3 stories tall since it covered a good part of the ship. The cockpit is only a small part.

The cockpit seems to cover over half of the screen, and it looks like there's a passenger area below it so it's still window-like. First image is less authoritative than the second, but prettier.

If you want to go ambitious, I would say cut out the cockpit glass and make a mold of it, then do a clear resin cast so that it's actually a window.

Using plasticard, you could probably make the control board area etc., as shown in the images. Then put a tiny Boba Fett inside flying the thing.

It'd be unique, for sure, and would look awesome if done well.

cool

I leave all my cockpits untouched, because they don't really look like cockpits (or glass canopies), but they do have a specific, consistent look. If you changed it it wouldn't fit with the rest of the models. It's the same reason I prefer to do overpaints rather than stripping and repainting the whole model - matching the texture, colour pallet and finish of the FFG pain schemes would be very difficult.

And then backlight it with a blue LED, and light the engines with an orange/red LED...

I think, maybe last year sometime, someone had painted the canopy with 'shine' giving an artificial lighting effect, it looked cool but it also gave a permanent look of ligh from a specific direction..

Have the cargo bay open, Han Solo's there, trapped in carbonite...

Show me the inside!

One the subject of LED's, I couldn't even fit a coin cell holder and switch in there, and that's after cutting out the little support bars and things. Luckily it still snaps together well enough, but aside from putting everything in the base, I don't know how you'd manage it.

What's that from?

I don't know... But the Firespray needs more crew slots!

I've seen a Firespray lit, for engine glow.. I'm waiting on blue LEDs for my own try at it as well. I just need to find something to fill the space when I cut the engine exhaust points out. I have a couple ideas, but I need to run to the hardware store to look at some stuff.. and

Nah that just looks like 2 passangers + 2 crew.

I was planning on doing an Emille from Halo Reach helmet etch for my Firespray.

I don't play those games, what does that look like.

This thread got me thinking - How would iridescent paint look/work?

I recommend 3 to 4 coats of gloss varnish to get that mirror shine

I can has?

I always paint the ships with a matt enamel, and any glazing with a gloss black. Works for me.
