CHALLENGE - How man women in one build?

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

If they were males you wouldn't be asking to see their birth certificates.

They really aren't anything as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure FFG would actually prefer to keep them as mysterious as possible; that seems to be the Phantom's bailiwick, and I'm okay with it. The real issue at heart is one of language. Despite the fact that we have nearly twice as many words as the next closest language, English possesses no singular, genderless, third person pronoun - apart from "it," which isn't appropriate when referring to persons of questionable gender identity.

Before we progress to accusations of misogyny, please permit me to make an observation. Take a look around these forums. What do you see? I'll tell you what I see: a whole bunch of nerds (myself included) obsessed with being 100% right about every trivial detail imaginable. That's what we do here, we argue the facts over nonexistent people, weapons, and ships, because we like Star Wars and because we like being right. When you consider the conversations about Echo and Whisper in that light, is the knee-jerk reverse sexism really warranted? I don't feel like it is.

The most recent official documents refer to both pilots as female. Ignoring those to continue disparaging those who claim the pilots as women is wrong.

This has been one of the most heated ongoing debates of the forum because many of the members are sexist, not fact obsessed. This is no surprise. Misogyny in gaming culture is well documented.

You have recently made transphobic jokes about the subject in another thread. By all means, continue lying to yourself and everyone else by suggesting you and Vanor are just looking for the facts while frothing at the mouth rabid sexist and ignoring the most recent FFG official documents.

Nobody here is disparaging you. Nobody here is sexist. Nobody here is misogynist. Nobody here has made 'transphobic' jokes.

If you take a good look around, you'll see that the only person being rabid about anything is you. Please take a moment to get a grip, some perspective, and calm the heck down. There's no reason to escalate a casual conversation this much just because you feel the need to be overly sensitive when everyone else is being perfectly rational.

This. Seriously, find a personality trait other than "self-appointed victim". If you have enough money to be buying x-wing, and enough time to be making x-wing videos, you have a pretty swell life compared to 98% of humanity. Now can you please just leave us alone to argue about the fake people please?

I don't think Ruthlessness counts, as that's not technically a woman-specific card. It just has one in the picture

I'll be honest I was on the fence about this one because of the b**bs,

but seeing as though there potentially two other guys there

or two women and one guy whatever, I would have to say...

...wait

...are those b**bs?

So Phantom pilots don't actually have a gender because it could be anyone in that ship.

I actually like that idea. Once you attain a certain rank you gain a title and callsign, but it's a consistent one. So there could have been several Whispers, and when one dies another pilot takes the previous Whisper's place. Or, there are several Whisper and Echos at once.

It creates a kind of mythical status, that there is this pilot who shot down 50 (or other large number) of rebel ships across the whole galaxy. But really there are a bunch of them.

Here is my 100pts list, with 7 female cards:

Oicunn with Ruthlessness, Ysanne Isard, Mara Jade, Recon Spec

Howlrunner

OGP with Fleet Officer, Recon Spec

Unfortunately most of those focus tokens go to waste with very little green dice :(

According to Hexis who would know the FAQ was a typo. But I know of no where that Whisper is ever referred to as she or her.

Dread Pirate Roberta?

Imperial aces are often called on nicknames VanorDM. It could be what you are saying (since FFG could pretty much make up anything), but it is just unlikely.

HOW MAN WOMEN INDEED

That's the best you can do,

highlighting a typo?

• Freudian slip typo is all.

I can type at 55 wpm and it happens.

(• Not serious, just fodder so the stinky troll doesn't starve)

Troll? Pah. I'm just screwing around.

Imperial aces are often called on nicknames VanorDM.

True, but these are the only 2 named pilots that don't have proper names, only nicknames. They are also afaik the only 2 named pilots that ffg have created.

What about fel's wrath? Or every named TIE pilot? Or am I misunderstanding you? I realize they aren't ffg creations, but they don't have propper names

Yeah it suck's to be Fel's Wrath - he was even seen in person in a movie and STILL has no name, just a nickname and serial number.

Forgot about him. But he still existed prior to FFG using him as a pilot for the game.

Well, part of the problem is that the TIE Phantom was such a short lived vessel, it didn't really have a chance to be anything other than a bogeyman mini-boss. Poor Whisper and Echo either died quick or survived the rebel attack and were transferred to other craft. Heck the Phantom wasn't even used en masse in a major Battle. The Rebs destroyed them on the ground.

Also lol at the tired old boys getting so angry about having girl pilots. How many months do you wish to spend looking like the least bf material?

How charming.

I don't think Guri counts as a woman since she is technically a droid.

Also my list certainly doesn't have the most women but I dub it "Fat Bottom Girls" as they do make the rocking world go round.

Edit: An argument could be made that the generic pilots are female to. The emperor knows talent when he sees it.

Care to quote the text that you're referring to? Perhaps my empathy is a bit off, but so far I have yet to detect any anger coming from the 'boys.'

A few of you, including the dork who liked your post. By all means, continue arguing about how they aren't girls. Debate is over they are women. Months of this is straight up creepy. This is a thread about lady builds and once again a few guys hijack it into a debate about how official FAQ isn't official. It's really weird and hilariously unflattering. Believing whatever you like is one thing, challenging the inclusion of new women pilots at every single opportunity is quite another.

Swing away. Looks super cool. Haha.

We haven't broached this topic in over a month, so I'm not sure where these recent observations of yours are coming from. I'll ask you again, can you quote the specific post(s) where people are getting angry about female pilots?

Don't get me wrong, I like women. I like them a lot. If you care to know what's really irritating me, it's a) the propensity for certain members of this forum to bump old threads for no good reason (to which post #43 was referring), and b) the propensity for certain other members to see misogyny where none exists. What I choose to believe about the gender identity of certain pilots should matter just as little to you as your beliefs do to me. I guess the pendulum doesn't swing that way, which I find both amusing and more than a little ironic coming from the pioneer of the 'head-canon.'
