CHALLENGE - How man women in one build?

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

So I challenge you squad builder experts and amateurs alike

to find the build with the most women in it, including pilots and crew...

(I did a search and didn't find a thread and though someone has to do it.)

Should have qualified this better, so each card either by name or by image,

eg. I would count Recon Specialist as female.

Academy Pilot spam. Simply pick all female students and bam, you have 8 women in a list.

Not really a challange, since it is possible to put all female characters of both factions in 100 pts list. Rebels will use Nera Dantels and Ibtisam in B-wings supported by Jan Ors with Leia crew. Imperials have to use Kath Scarlett with Ysanne Isard, Howlrunner and Echo (if we assume that she's "she") with Mara Jade.

I run an Echo and Howlrunner build with 2 Academies and an Alpha. That could be all female.

I think the trick first is to name all of the Female pilots and crew available in the game.

For the Imperials I know of (currently) Howlrunner, Whisper, Echo... anything else?

On the Rebel side you have Ibtisam, Jan Ors (both pilot and crew) and Leia.

Are there any other females in the standard game?

We of course will add Nera and Ysanne later...

Kath Scarlett. Technically, the Recon Specialist, as well, if you just go off the art.

With Whisper and Echo, they aren't real Star Wars characters (yet) and were just created by FFG. They've listed them as female in the FAQ and one of the preview articles. Since FFG made them up, I'd say they're the authority.

Edit! Toryn Farr, as well, but I can't remember what type of upgrade she is. Either crew or...team? I don't have the ship she comes with.

I forgot all about Kath! Thanks for the reminder!

And Whisper and Echo were stated as 'she' in the FFG FAQ, so I am calling them female pilots.

So naked (no pun intended) Kath, Echo and Whisper equals 100 points exactly. I call it the Bare Naked Ladies!

I'm running that at league tonight!

Ok, even better:

Kath with Wingman & Mara Jade
Howlrunner with PTL
Echo with VI and ACD

4 girls, one list, and playable!

That's a hilarious list title.

I haven't seen the PS3 Decimator spoiled yet, I was wondering if the pilot is female, I was thinking the three crew would be a good opportunity if she is.

awww yes, the infamous Admiral General Grand Moff Aladeen imperial build

Uneven use of female pronouns aside, I'm not sure we can claim with absolute certainty that the Phantom pilots are actually women. What FFG needs to do is release some kind of flavor supplement, like a webcomic or mini-story imbedded in a rules insert (not unlike a certain company's codices).

Though you would want to change the IA's to Rec Specs too.

If they were males you wouldn't be asking to see their birth certificates.

"Echo" is referred to as He 3 times and She once. "Whisper" is never referred to with a gender pronoun at all. So we have no way of knowing if they are or aren't, but if anything the number of times Echo is called he points to male.

Also considering that both are quote-unquote names, not proper names, these may not be 'real' people at all but just call-signs given to the pilot of those ships. Much like Black Squad, Avenger Squad, Blue squad or Green squad...

Considering Disney's stance on canon, it's likely that FFG can create new pilots for this game, and every other pilot we see has existed in the EU somewhere before. So to avoid making a new character but to allow named pilots where none exist, FFG went with nick names.

So Phantom pilots don't actually have a gender because it could be anyone in that ship.

Schrödinger's pilots

They really aren't anything as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure FFG would actually prefer to keep them as mysterious as possible; that seems to be the Phantom's bailiwick, and I'm okay with it. The real issue at heart is one of language. Despite the fact that we have nearly twice as many words as the next closest language, English possesses no singular, genderless, third person pronoun - apart from "it," which isn't appropriate when referring to persons of questionable gender identity.

Before we progress to accusations of misogyny, please permit me to make an observation. Take a look around these forums. What do you see? I'll tell you what I see: a whole bunch of nerds (myself included) obsessed with being 100% right about every trivial detail imaginable. That's what we do here, we argue the facts over nonexistent people, weapons, and ships, because we like Star Wars and because we like being right. When you consider the conversations about Echo and Whisper in that light, is the knee-jerk reverse sexism really warranted? I don't feel like it is.

I have it on good authority (Varys' little birds) that "Whisper" is female, and "Echo" is male. Typos happen (FAQ), but I'll bet the pronouns remain consistent with that going forward.

Schrödinger's pilots

I feel the same way, other then a sense of fuffyness, what difference does the gender make? None that I can see. The only reason I've been involved in these discussions so far, is because people started calling Echo and Whisper "she" from the start. Then discounted all evidence to the contrary when Echo was referred to as he the first few times... Even going as far as to claim the FAQ trumps all in terms of fluff because that case they used she instead of he.

They also claim Whisper is a female, despite the complete and utter lack of evidence to support that, but the general canon knowledge that the Empire tends to be very much of men only type group, which would given the lack of evidence to the contrary point to the default gender unless known being male.

I have it on good authority (Varys' little birds) that "Whisper" is female, and "Echo" is male.

That's the best you can do,

highlighting a typo?

• Freudian slip typo is all.

I can type at 55 wpm and it happens.

Freudian slip typo is all.

So... you tend to think about men when you should be thinking about women? Does that happen a lot?

I don't think Ruthlessness counts, as that's not technically a woman-specific card. It just has one in the picture
