Help me make a list

By charlarino, in X-Wing

Hello Again,

So I'm still fairly new, bought my 1st starter set about a month ago, and an A wing to go with it. Now today I got hold of an E wing and 2 Headhunters from a local Forbidden Planet.

I've been playing around with lists using the cards I have, and, the following list was the one I felt happiest with.

Corran Horn - Decoy

Biggs Darklighter - R2D2

Lieutenant Blount ion pulse missile and wingman

Bandit squadron pilot

total 100 points

I don't really have a plan as such but I do know I'm facing a Firespray plus some other stuff. so I was hoping Blount works with the missile, how I think he works with the missile, does anyone mind running a critical eye over this list and giving me some constructive criticism?

Blount works exactly like you are expecting. With the Ion Pulse missle, he just has to acquire a target lock and then fire. Even if he doesn't hit with his dice, the enemy will receive 2 Ion Tokens and 1 damage.

Biggs might still go down fast, even with R2-D2. I prefer not to upgrade him too much, but with this loadout it might be interesting to have him soak up some damage, then fly away fast to green in safety, recover his shields, and then rejoin the formation.

Corran Horn is one of my favorite pilots right now. He is super powerful for the Rebels, and makes up for some of the firepower lost by having 2 headhunters (with only 2 attack dice each). I know you don't have the card, but I would strongly recommend Fire Control System for him, as it grants him a free target lock after each attack. If he keeps shooting at, for example, the firespray, he'll probably get to take a ton of free target locked shots.

Not so sure about decoy. It is a strange card but it might be helpful, who knows. It isn't optimal of course, so with the cards you have I'd consider trying Push the Limit from the A-wing pack with R2 Astromech if you have it. It lets Corran get more use out of his actions, but still not as good as having Fire Control System. You already have wingman on Blount which is only really helping on K turns or enemy stress abilities. He can totally help with Push the Limit by removing the stress, but then your movement is more predictable, which isn't too much of a problem since you have Biggs to take the hits anyway.

have fun!

Ok I'll try that push the limt with a standard R2 - I like theway that sounds better too :)

Cheers!

You've already heard the "R2D2 on Biggs is not a great idea" line. You also are correct about how Blount works with the Ion Pulse missile and boy can that hurt. I do wonder a bit about why you have Decoy on Corran.

Now if you aren't offended I have a couple other ideas you might try:

Corran + R7T1 + Advanced Sensors + Marksmanship - 44 points

Luke + R2D2

Bandit (x2)

Corran is clearly the big target. Part of the reason for Advanced Sensors is to improve his maneuverability. R7T1 is nice because you can use it to get a TL and boost and with Advanced Sensors you could do that before moving out of range. I have Marksmanship on him for when you want to give that 1-2 punch before taking a turn off. Luke should be the hard to kill one in this bunch although he can still hit and the two Bandits are what was left for points. With the balanced pilot skills it can be a little easier to fly.

Another thought:

Cracken

Blount + Deadeye + Ion Pulse

Etahn

Biggs + R2F2

Normally don't recommend R2F2 although here the idea is that after Cracken shoots he can give Biggs a free action to Focus with making R2F2's agility increase more effective. Etahn is here to help everyone deal some [crits] and Blount gains Deadeye to make sure he can fire off the Ion Pulse at anyone he pleases.

Eeeep Forbidden Prices! I hope they were on offer or something?

My best advice is just have fun :-)

Welcome to the addiction X-wing :-D

Give Corran Fire Control System instead.

How about:

Luke with R2-D2 and Wingman.

Etahn Abaht, Advanced Sensors and R7-T1

Tala Squadron x 2

Luke is always a tough nut to crack.

Etahn can use his advanced sensors to boost before moving, into a K turn for instance, Luke will remove the stress if needed.

The Talas fire at anyone in Etahn's arc, with Focus if possible.

All sound like good options I'll try them all out whilst I wait for some of the out of stock models
