I am an Imperial Player. So Why Do I Love the New Y-Wing Stuff?

Counterplay. For those unfamiliar with the concept, I can think of no better educators than Extra Credits. If you've not seen this video before, give it a go.

I love flying against the Y-Wing. Their unique combination of high HP and low agility makes them very fun to kill (though not always easy), and they reward the highly aggressive and maneuverable ships even though they also have turrets, which tend to hit back pretty hard against those same ships. Outmaneuvering them with Interceptors is a blast. So yeah, anything that makes people field them more, and now with maybe some new tactics, I am absolutely all for!

Yeah. and at least they have a R2 range, not an R3 range where you literally cant fly against it.

Y-wings are good if you have a stress ion build which is more of a control build. (I was able to Ion a defender off the table and I also saw R2-D2 on an E-wing shut down by Ion Turret Y-wing).

That being said they are not invulnerable. The low point cost and high hull value is counterbalanced by the lack of damage negation through shields and agility. Also while they might have a turret weapon they have a slim range or movement with their dials which is also why they are cheaper than an X-wing. It makes them more of a specialist piece instead of a brawler like an X-wing or Interceptor.

There is also a counter to the stress control with stress sinks such as pilots and upgrades that take stress away or get benefits when they receive a stress token. With wave 5 putting more stress on the board I expect to see more stress sinks on the table.
