CR-90 Customs

By dojimaster, in X-Wing

On another thread I posted some alt paint schemes. I ordered two more CR-90s and the one I started first was determined by which paint arrived first.

The winner was.... Dragon Red! Army Painter Base Spray that matches the same name in the bottle paints.

First some taping off of areas I didn't want to spray.

Here's hoping that red darkens a bit after I do my wash.....

And now after some areas painted over the base coat....

Still no wash or detail painting yet.

So first wash is on, splotchy but not dry yet. We'll see.....

Right - work in progress, rememebr....

Wash is on and dried, but some areas much darker than I;d like, so some revisions to make once I get some time.....

Reserved

Shame the red was so covering, if it had been thinner the original shading washes would have come through, saved a lot of work.

Yeah - I didn't consider that, but I had intended to wash it it anyways. But still point taken, and an obvious drawback to the spray method of base coating.

It looks very senatorial. I like it much more than I thought I would. You're inspiring me to paint mine, though I don't yet know what colour I will choose. I will watch your progress with interest.

That's a LOT of reserved posts...

I was thinking of doing mine up as the color scheme from Battlefront 2 or doing the diplomatic red. Do you think theres any real point to striping it first or were you satisfied with just doing the paint over the original?

Can't wait to see the wash and other depth-adding details. It's quite striking so far.

Very nice! Also reminds me of how Booster Terrik wanted to do the Errant Venture.

Nice

Looks awesome.

Thanks folks. Lot of fun - hope it turns out as I envisioned it, but fun nonetheless.

I can't see enough repaints! Well done!

I don't thing striping is needed.

i dig the red.

using washes on models that big can be a true pain in the buttocks. i personally wouldnt have the reserve and calm demeanor to do it. for me, that would have to be done with an airbrush. would be able to preshade the areas you wanted a little (or lot) darker.

looking good though

I dig the senatorial look of the CR90, right down to the stripes. From the original illo the OP posted, they add just the right amount of accent. Something all-red with no accents would be drab and boring, and the SW universe loves its racing stripes.

Washing can be a bit of a pain, but once you get the thinning right and then drybrush up after it's dry to bring out the details, the time an effort is well worth it. Just put on some music and go to town.

I'ts looks awesome, the only detail is that is`t too much like the Jedi transport of Qui-Gon and Obi, greettings.

Imperial CR-90 posted - need some feedback on shades.
