So is R2-D2 going to be backing up the Scum?

By GlobeTrotting, in X-Wing

So I imagine it's already been pointed out but.... Is R2-D2 really going to be useable on Scum Y-Wings? Just seems weird to imagine him blasting away at C-3PO and Chewie...

Probably not. We know Scum add a "Salvaged Astromech" slot which gives them astromechs unique to them. It seems likely that Scum will not have any regular Astromech slots available, so no R2-D2.

Even if Scum Y-wings do allow standard Astromechs, we'll almost certainly see R2-D2 errata'ed to Rebel Only.

No, scum will use "salvaged" mechs instead of Regular Astromechs

Cool I hadn't appreciated that they had swapped to a new upgrade type!

Nope it's not attack wing, pirates get their own droids.

Nah, that's easy! Attacking Chewie is revenge for the chess match in A New Hope. And R2 is just plain sick of putting up with 3P0's whiney crap.

But, yeah, I see an errata in our near future.

I get the feeling that the whole "salvaged astromech" lineup was pretty much FFG going "woops we forgot to print *rebel only* on our wave 1 astromechs"

More likely they want it to be another channel of providing flavor to the Scum faction without having to print 'scum only' on cards.

Rebels have astromechs - no Imperials do.

Imperials have bombs and mines - no Rebels do.

Scum seem like they are going to get some bombs/mines capability, and some astromech capability...and also add the 'illicit' upgrade slots, which neither Rebels nor Imperials have.

So it gives FFG a way to introduce new capabilities to the various factions, without having to fully cross-test every possible combination of upgrades and ships to worry about crazy power-combos (I'm looking at you, 'Attack Wing').

If Scum Y-Wings can only use Salvaged Astromechs, why do regular astromechs appear in the card fan of the Most Wanted pack?

There's a unique R4-something, a uniquely named astromech in quotation marks and a generic R4 Astromech.

I have a feeling the generic Y-Wings will get the Salvaged Astromech slot for the reasons you guys mention earlier in this thread. But maybe the unique Y-Wings will have regular Astromech slots to make them even better than the generics (perhaps to further encourage pilot skill creep in the game).

The only Scum R2-D2 ever helped was Ani.

Are you sure those are astromech upgrades and not crew droids for use on scum firesprays and hwks?

I'll be very surprised if that "Bomb..." with the Y-wing picture doesn't end up being usable by the Rebels.
