I just don't understand why it fills people with rage.

The Dark Side of the Force.
Edited by z0m4dI just put him on the ignore list, problem solved. No hate necessary.
He said it himself he does it on purpose, and he "just has" for a long time.. I think it's silly, but I don't comment on it.. I figure leave it alone and it might go away.. whatever.. no worries.. but there are a few who call him out. I believe Spanish is his primary language.
I wonder if he's mistaken the title of the thread as a friendly greeting or thought perhaps he made it himself.

Aye, that's what I did as well. There are enough people here that I can afford to ignore "greettings" and people who think "ur" is an actual word.
And yes, there is a difference between occasional mistakes and deliberate misuse.

Some people, Brits especially I think, habitually end their writings with "Cheers". I thought of it as kind of the same thing.
maybe, I just don't care enough to worry about it I guess.. lol

That's funny, most British folks I've known end their posts directed towards me with "Piss off."

I really want to be surprised.

It that barb aimed at British people or at Captain Lackwit? (Both?)

Neither. I wasn't surprised that Lackwit had a knack with pissing off British people, but I wish I had been. It's not a barb.
It's exactly how I got my name. On one hand, one of my greatest, most kind friends is a british man.
On the other hand, I used to go to a forum where my older and more naive attitude got me utterly vilified in a primarily British environment. Once, I did something stupid, and in my PM box...
"Oi, Captain Lackwit, knock it off."
Then I thought about it. There was just somethin' about that name that fit me. I've always known that I'm a somewhat daffy, at times daft individual. I'm not sure I lack wit but it does imply a deficiency in intelligence, but to a clever observer, someone who's aware that they're not the most brilliant individual.
So I adopted it and thanked that man- who is an acquaintance of mine and I once sent him 12 bucks to help him in a financial rut. Wasn't much but it was something.
He never did say "You're welcome" for the name.
Sometimes he contributes, sometimes he doesn't but what other member of this community endures the level of scrutiny? Any?
That says volumes about us, I like the greetings, it comes across as an accent to me. A touch of multiculturalism beyond the US, UK and Ausies.
We need more greetings.
Greetings is an opener not a closer. It's effectively the same as saying Hi/Hello
Cheers is a closer. Like after you make a toast (to good health, as an example) or saying thank you (the plane old closer)
Its just grammar, got nothing to do with spelling.
Cheers shank you
This is a very odd thread, like an intervention. Will there be an Orc flavoured one next?

Steg,
Those are the rules of your culture. They may not map to others. There is no good reason to get bent out of shape over it.
If he is spanish, greetings, which would mean "Saludos", may be used as a finisher. Don't be that close minded trying to find something annoying out of thin air.
I am from Spain, sometimes, when i have a hard time writing on english, i tend to end my writing with "cheers" on the forums, for the exact reason Zomad described. You just gained +10 empathy points.

I'm a Cryptologic Language Analyst in the US Air Force. Have you ever mastered the grammatical nuances of a foreign language language? It's not easy.
I have yet to understand why it's appropriate to create a thread about any one poster, negative or otherwise. Talk about the game, but keep your personal opinions to yourselves.
Orcs are ugly, although I would rather hang out with an orc than a gnome. Gnomes have small hands and smell like cabbage...

Thing is, it's very easy not to do something again once you've been reminded repeatedly that it's incorrect.

And maybe he just didn't care to appease a bunch of posters who were making fun of him over something so trivial.

Of course, that's what people have been pointing out over three pages now. He's not doing it because of language skills or cultural misunderstandings, but out of spite. Hence the blocking.
He was being picked on in several threads and I wanted to bring it to light. I feel it's relevant to maintaining the inclusive, positive community feel of our forum. No good ever comes of drawing that kind of attention to a particular person. I understand your intentions are benign, but you do more harm than good this way. If you want to make a difference, I would recommend you try to contact a moderator, or sway people with personal messages.
