Ionizing Big Ships Every Turn?

By darthlurker, in X-Wing

So I was looking at the article showing the S&V ships/cards/tokens and thought to myself: that's a shitload of ion tokens in front of the StarViper, what could that be for? Then I realized that they're probably for the ion torpedoes as they can splash those tokens onto other ships, and it got me thinking, could there be more information gleamed from simply looking at the tokens they revealed in their teaser pictures?

The Scyk Interceptor picture shows two stress and three ion tokens. Given how flechette torpedoes work, my guess is that the flechette cannon also induces stress somehow. As for the ion tokens, the ion cannon can give out one but I think that it's reasonable to conclude that the "mang" cannon is something capable of giving a ship more than one ion token at a time. The two ion tokens in front of the IG-2000 also seems to support this and if this is the case then what we have is a tool for ionizing big ships every turn with a single shot, which I think is an interesting prospect.

I've noticed that tokens are occasionally laking from the pictures, for example: the Decimator preview shows one ion token but has two ion torpedoes (does anyone with a Decimator know how many ion tokens it came with?) but I can't think of a case of more tokens being available than what's possible to use.

Any thoughts?

Does it come with Ion Pulse Missiles? That plus an Ion Cannon would account for including three ion tokens.

Afraid not, the only upgrade cards that come with the Scyk are an ion cannon, a flechette cannon, a mang cannon, a stealth device and the title card, so if all of the expansion's cards are shown in the picture then the extra ion tokens must be for the mang and/or flechette cannon.

The IG-2000 is just like all large ships. They include an extra Ion token due to needing 2 for the effect to go off.

The Starviper comes with an Ion Torpedo. That's why it has so many Ion Tokens.

While that's possible it still doesn't explain why the Scyk would come with 3 ion tokens instead of just 1 or 2. The previous releases that include an ion cannon are the B-Wing, TIE Defender and Slave I and they they come with 1, 2 and 2, respectively.

I noticed that and if you reread the first paragraph of the thread you'll see that I concluded the same.
