Monster spawn effects during encounters

By whammm, in General Discussion

So, I've got another quick question. I got an expedition encounter in the Himalayas that says "Spawn a Monster on your space and then immediately encounter it." I drew a Mummy which has a spawn effect that moves it to the pyramids. What happens in this situation? My understanding is that the spawn effect happens the moment the monster is spawned, and according to the encounter card you encounter the monster after it is spawned at which point it has already moved to the pyramids. On the other hand the card doesn't say that I can't encounter the monster if it has moved away from my space, so do I still fight the monster?

I'm sure we struggled a bit with this one as well, so we used the Ambush ref ...

Ambush
When a Monster ambushes an investigator, draw one random Monster

from the Monster cup. Then the investigator immediately encounters it.

The Monster is not spawned. If it has a “ when spawned ” effect, do not

resolve that effect.

... and ignored the spawning effects. This will lead to an odd situ, like ur Mummy, but what can u do! Had a look-see at the FaQ and no-one's asked FFG directly ... Walts

Main difference between a "spawn a monster" effect like that, and an ambush would be that with a spawn, the monster stays on the board while it would be discarded after an ambush (or more precisely, never placed in the first place, just have its stats referenced).

Secondary difference would be that spawn effects indeed take place, so you could end up with a blank draw that way. (Don't know exact wording by heart if anything supersedes the spawn effect, the ambush bit certainly isn't it because spawn and ambush are different things)
