Help me build my game mat

Instead of the classical galactic landscape, i'm trying to build something like the CIC of the Battlestar Galatica (http://www.dvice.com/sites/dvice/files/images/pics/8_tac_tools.jpg).


I'm having trouble finding flight charts to be the patterns on the table. Most flight charts have information of real world the landscape, causing the image to be really poluted. The only "blank" one i found was this: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim/F0504013.gif


Anyone know more sources? The final result will probably be the flight chart under a grid.

(I know that a grid can help to plan movements and this would probably be unacceptable in any sort of official play, but i doing this for the flavor)


Also, what is the common size for the game area?

Barring the electrical finesse, you could just take one of the above patterns and draw it in black felt or cloth.

but I actually really like the idea of a lit table.. that would be awesome.
