OK guys 'sell' B wings to me.

By Gadge, in X-Wing

I've only got one B wing at the mo and while they are OT ships so i should be all over them i've never been a massive fan of the look, never had a toy one as a kid so no nostalgia there and on the whole i just dont see the appeal.

But it's clearly a good competitive ship.

Should i be replacing my Y wings with them.

Lazy time here (its nearly 11pm and I'm knackered) so can someone summarise the pros and cons of B wings and suggest some good sub 33 point builds i can try out tomorrow to see how they work.

Suggested synchronicity with other pilots appreciated, i own two of all the other rebel ships other than the Ewing, rebel aces and YT2400 so probably have the cards

So, i've just walked into the Slayn & Korpil showroom (or whoever makes em).... i'm got 240,000 credits in my account... sell me a B Wing!

I rarely use more than one.

Cool, you have my attention :)

I have to admit i bought my B wing the morning i was getting married to kill some time between the 9am i got to the hotel and the 2pm the wedding started so i barely looked at the dials, cards etc etc and then got a bit 'distracted' by getting married

More often than not they're just a sturdier X-Wing. In context of the game, anyway, they're really rather superb, and efficiently-costed. The lone Agility die can be a sore point when you're getting shot at, but if you're in need of convincing just try out a Blue Sq Pilot with a Heavy Laser Cannon as ranged support, or a Dagger Sq Pilot with Advanced Sensors as a close-range fighter. Something may click the first time you Focus or TL and then K-Turn!

It's a gunship, a heavy fighter that can punch someone in the face. It holds a bunch of ordinance and can take a cannon but I just use its primary attack and high HP to hit ships while a specialist moves around.

The are pretty resilient, and if you throw advanced sensors on them you are golden.

Right i might play with myself (oooer) tomorrow and practice with a B wing before getting it blown to pieces by the wife.

That sounds far smuttier than intended.

You don't have to rely on Green Dice. Any evade rolled feels like free money. B-wings are extremely point efficient for the amount of health and firepower you get out of it. They can even be slippery at times with the hard turns and pulling an unexpected red or a clever barrel roll can throw your opponent off guard when a lot of people look at it like a beefier X-wing.

It also has the best upgrade slots. Cannons can be fun, but sensors are really where it is at. Soon, crew might pull off some pretty fun shenanigans too. Still, a base Blue Squadron is fun on its own.

This reminded me how little hobby stuff I've done lately.

Blue+FCS Is a very solid ship for a front line fighter, and it's evil versus large base ships.

Blue+Advanced Sensors is very maneuverable and fights up close extraordinarily well.

Most of the named pilots are simply amazing, although expensive.

As a rebel player in a local metta dominated by large base ships i feel naked when i don't bring at least one b wing. They're very point efficient, advanced sensors is nice for for maneuvering but lately i've been running them with fire control system for extra damage output. The named pilots could be a little more exciting, but that's what rebel aces will be for.

3 Attack, 5 Shields, 2 K-Turn, Barrel Roll, System Upgrade slot & Cannon Slot.

And the basic Blue Squadron is just 1 point more expensive than your standard Rookie Pilot.

Advanced Sensors for retaining actions with red manuevers or escaping blocking.

HLC for four attack dice at all ranges.

FCS for free Target Locks.

Boom.

There's something a little weird about the way the B feelsthe first few times you fly it naked - it sort of stomps around the board in a very inelegant fashion.- it feels like an out an out slugger without too much finesse They can be a challenge to fly and aren't at all like the easy, mazey, arcing Y-Wing they were meant to replace - but it's got so many sweet spots in it;s upgrade bar that holds the potential to do so many things.

Just a few judicious upgrades like advanced sensors can really help getting arc or avoiding it or taking a focus before you K-turn - for even more options (plus a well-needed turn of speed) add an engine upgrade - pair that with a pilot who can PTL and you suddenly have something that can really move and can be very unpredictable.

You want punch at every range? stick HLC on her and get 4 dice at 1-3

You want better staying power? put the B-wing E2 mod on her to gain a crew slot and take threepio - and the rest.......

They can get expensive so don't get carried away unless you feel like it

You shouldn't need convincing to fly B-wings.

Let's see,,,World Championship 2013. Look it up. :)

I take it farlander is 'rebel aces' as he's not in my b wing pack i own.

ive got two generic squadrons, the itsybitsy dude and Ten Numb?

Yup - there's a couple of new pilots and B-Wing specific upgrades due in the aces pack

yeah, suggesting anything in a set i cant get til late September isn't going to help me in games over the weekend guys.

Its enthusiastic and optimistic i'll give you that but not so helpful :)

wasn't Farlander the Y wing pilot in ANH who survives the battle of Yavin?

I'd have thought he should have been in the Y wing pack really :(
