1. Solid stats (tad spendy, at least for the Ps7)
2. It can perform the new maneuver
3. Solid title card
4. Awesome looking model..." If you disagree your most likely a purist OT hippie"
So what role does everyone think this will fill?

Hey, we are all Imperial dude, take that knife out of my back.
" looks shifty " yer all imperial
I think it will be cross between a defender and interceptor
This thread took all of 4 post to go sideways.
I wonder how durable it'll be compared to Interceptors, I'd assume in the long run that the lack of Evade would make it worse even with the 4/1 H/S.

Exactly my thoughts , both have boost and k/ k ish turns.

Yeah, no PTL for a freebie evade!

On the other hand it doesn't have to pay for Targeting Computer. Xizor with PTL could be a pretty consistent damage dealer, and you could run AdvSens on top of that.
It will definitely be a very unique ship.

It's about the Starviper. It was already sideways! BOOM! HAHAHA.
No, I kid, I kid. I'm curious as to what that loop is. Maybe it's like a barrel roll, but forwards and/or backwards?

It's actually been spoiled in the preview article already.

Now, it remains to be seen if any of the Wave 6 ships will have it with 1/2 banks, since only 3s are visible on the dial, but it's definitely interesting. With AdvSens you can even boost prior to using it which gives you a HUGE lateral jump.
its an arc K-turn
Part of me thinks it is what some have wanted for the TIE Advanced except for the lack of Evade. It gets the 3 attack to go with 3 defense covering 5 'hit points' plus it gets boost.
I think the one really cool thing about the Viper is the Virago upgrade only costing a point. I think you might see the Viper as a centerpiece ship paired with a small group of backup ships in a 5 ship list perhaps. It is going to get expensive fast once you add in mods that will make it this thing really sing. Accuracy Upgrade, Boost, Barrel Roll, and PTL make a powerful combination since even if you miss out taking a Focus token in favor of a big movement you can still pull two hits.
I would love to see what the dial is going to be on this thing!
I think it's going to be a workhorse. I think it does a bit if everything and has a ton of upgrade options to fill points out. PS1 could come in at 23-24. That's pretty **** awesome if the dial is as good as it should be.
Edited by Rakky WistolBut can it beat the falcon?
But can it beat the falcon?
Will it blend?
How they call Y-wing in list with Prince Xizor? Hull upgrade
On a more serious note it will be kinda hard to use his ability, as Starviper is more of arc dodger type, with dial diferent from Y-wing, so any kind of formation flying will be a pain

The trick to remember is that if you're running Y-wings with turrets, they don't have to be THIS END TOWARDS ENEMY, so they should be able to follow him around.
Besides, only one Y-wing needs to be in range of him at any given time.
edit: after some testing on VASSAL, Xizor+Virago+FCS and a single Y-wing can burn through a Han+Gunner+3P0+MF before it kills either of them, pretty consistently. Xizor usually ends up with only 1-2 hull but the Falcon's been rolling a lot of 3-4 hits.
The nifty thing I've found here is that Xizor+meatshield defeats Gunner, because you let a single point of damage through onto the Y-wing and it never activates.
Edited by TipperaryI have a feeling with the impressive mix of base stats, action economy and possibly a really good and interesting dial I have a feeling the pilots will be in the range of the TIE Phantom for cost. Xizor is 31 with 7 PS and an elite talent, so if we take away 6 points for 6 PS (which is giving the ship a slightly generous score) the cheaper Black Sun generic will be 25. I think that's a safe number to guess given what you can usually afford with 25 points with the other two factions.
As for what it can do or what it's capable of is yet to be seen, but they seem like incredibly solid ships at first glance. To me they're like an inbetween of X-Wings and E-Wings with less in terms of overall flexibility for some pretty interesting tricks of their own. I'm very excited to get my hands on at least two, probably three of them if I really love them.
Nice spot. In fact, that's going to have quite wierd interactions with "after you perform an attack that misses" and "after you perform an attack that hits" rules.
An assault missile does nothing to the starviper but does two damage to the scyk next to him...
Equally, you can't (I don't think) disposable goon ion cannon fire away - that uncancelled hit is still there (albeit on the wrong guy), which means the attack hits, which triggers the ion weapon rules, which cancels all the dice results (including the one you just redirected) and instead does a damage plus an ion token.
Technically, if you cancelled none of the three dice from the ion shot, that new result is also uncancelled, though, and could be chosen as the result to pass. The ion token itself wouldn't be, though.
