Dark Empire - My (growing) fleet

By HoundsTooth, in X-Wing

Yes... That's fleet singular. Not sure if I'm the only one on here to pick one faction exclusively, but that is what I've done. Ever since I was seven I wanted to be a TIE Fighter pilot and here is the closest I've ever got...

... I've yet to play against another player other than my six year old daughter but my intention is to limit myself to playing only Imperials (the Firespray may slip through though!). This is my fleet so far. I've attempted some small amount of painting, all the TIE's have had their engines painted and one has had blood stripes added to the solar panels. You can just about see it in the picture below... Along with my shoddy attempt at engine glow on the Lambda!

Not 100% happy with it but it'll do for now. Next purchase will probably be a TIE Defender, though I also want an Interceptor or two before the V-49 Decimator is released!

Hey, your shoddy engine glow attempt is a clean, viable one to me. Hope you enjoy your career as an Imperial Flight Officer! :P

You're not alone my all Imp fleet is about the same size but its mainly Interceptors.

The good guys never did it for me.

^ He's right its a fine looking engine glow. Very nicely done

Welcome to the righteous and honourable side of the galaxy my friend:-)

My my my... I have to say the lambda is a mighty handsome looking machine... Bravo!

I'd DEFINITELY recommend some interceptors (2 basic and at least one imp aces). Dependent on funds at least one of every ship type is always a good thing too but not essential to start with...

It's always good to get new players, I'd bob down for a game with you myself but alas I'm from the freezing north western wastelands of Manchester area so I fear you are too far for now... If you're looking for people to play your LFGS is usually a good start (although there are increasing numbers of local games clubs findable on't t'interweb too...

Awesome fleet! hehe. I like it. Small and to the point.

Empire is the good guys.

Empire is the good guys.

Agreed. I always refer to Luke as, "The Butcher of Yavin."

Cheers for the welcome guys... Glad I'm not the only one here with aspirations of working my way up the Imperial Navy Hierarchy!

Empire is the good guys.

Agreed. I always refer to Luke as, "The Butcher of Yavin."

Not only did he murder countless faithful and loyal citizens of the Empire, he also heartlessly killed all the rebels and other scum, supposedly the very allies and friends for whom he and his terrorist organization claim to be fighting, held in the many detention levels of the Death Star. Truly, it was a day that will live in infamy.

Actually, just think for a moment how many people were on the Death Star, how many contractors, medical personnel, non-combat assets, hell there were probably even a few kids on there. Wanton destruction with mass casualties made the rebels no better than what they were fighting against! :P

The line between good and bad begins to blur the more you think about it.

There have been a couple of additions to the fleet recently...

And the fleet is just awaiting the delivery of two new TIE Interceptors... And a visit from the Dark Lord of the Sith himself! ;)

Very nice. Is the only limiting factor your budget, or do you have a fixed number in mind in terms of ships? For example I can never see myself getting more than 2 Phantoms, or 3 Bombers, or 1 Shuttle.

Very impressive

It's a great start and welcome not a better table top game out there.

4 shuttles is 40 hp a person has to burn through to get a win it's a tough list to fly against. Equally so 4 bombers with Howlrunner really is good.

The phantoms in an epic are with taking 4 of and well epic play is worth having at least 3-4 of each ship.

I've basically been reading squad build threads on here and on A Few Maneuvers - The second Defender is a direct result of reading the two recent threads on Defender lists and walking past the local FLGS the other day on my way home from work! I'm basically aiming for at least one of everything (Imperial) before the Scum and Villainy are released (at which point I will temporarily, at least, switch allegiances!). Saying that though there are some Shuttle builds I'd like to try that require more than one... So who knows! :P

Your fleet looks good, but I will encourage you to fly both sides as you'll get a much better feel for what your opponent can do. Plus, it's always good to get out of those doom and gloom cockpits and stop oppressing the masses.

Looks like your standard kill tally after an Xwing Alliance mission. Thankfully, the tabletop version is not so .. glorious.

I'm all about the Empire and even have two Velcro-backed Imperial Navy patches that I wear on occasion. I'm glad you added a phantom, I've really enjoyed mine as a flying shotgun/terror weapon.

That being said, I have invested in both sides (minimally, just a Hwk-290 and two core X-Wings for 98 points) but that way I can always play a game with my wife and others. The more familiar you are with your enemy the less they can surprise you. I'm talking about Rebels, not significant others.

INTERCEPTORS!!! I LOVE Interceptors, and I just don't think any Imperial Fleet is complete without them.

As it stands at the moment, I only have 3 (one Expansion and one Aces pack). I plan on rectifying that right away with the addition of one more Aces (maybe 2 if I can stretch the budget)

You will not find a more fun ship to fly than the Interceptor. It looks cool, is nimble, and can lay a hurt on those Rebel scum like nothing else. Sure, they're glass cannons, and can go down in flames really quickly, but that's all part of the fun isn't it? Besides, the Interceptor expansion comes with arguably the best pilot in the fleet (the mighty Baron Soontir Fel). You just can't go wrong with them as far as I'm concerned.

After that (even though I myself don't have one), I'd look into an Advanced. Forget all the hate here on the forums for the Advanced. It's iconic. It looks cool, and it comes with everyone's favorite Dark Lord of the Sith. I just had an opportunity to run Vader a few days ago (first time out with the Advanced, using a friend's ship) and I have to say, that despite all the hate for the ship itself, I am hooked. That being said, it will never take the place of my beloved squints!

And, lastly, you probably couldn't go wrong with one more Phantom I suppose. Though I think they're a ship for people afraid to fly a REAL ship like the Interceptor (see a pattern here?)

Looking good, I'm mostly collecting Imperial here too. I just picked up a TIE Defender last night, probably my next step is an Imperial Aces or a pair of TIE Bombers.

all the TIE's have had their engines painted and one has had blood stripes added to the solar panels.

Wouldn't paint on a solar panel inhibit the function of the panel to absorb visible light? Unless we're talking something outside of the visible light band in the electromagnetic spectrum (like gamma).

No more so than the craft operating in space... In all probability away from a source of solar energy! I tend to refer to the 'wings' on TIE's as solar panels 'cos everyone else tends to, but I don't subscribe to the theory that they're actually that useful for generating power. They certainly wouldn't generate enough to power two Ion-Engines! :D

I decided to go for two standard Interceptors rather than the '... Aces' expansion as I like a more uniformed look. The red Squint would stand out a little too much for me.
