New Core Set in the works?

By Donnerwolf, in X-Wing

With the arrival of the third faction and a horse choking amount of rule cards and changes, it seems like a new Core Set might also be in the works. Attack Wing came with three factions, so it is doable. One X-wing, TIE, and Scyk each?

I doubt it, a single Scyk or tie is not enough to fly against an x-wing, and having a 5 ship core set seems like it would be cost prohibitive.

I'd say doubtful. The core set is designed such that it can be played by two people right out of the box. Two TIEs vs a lone X-Wing is a somewhat balanced fight. I don't feel like either the TIE or the Scyk would stand a chance against the X-Wing 1v1.

Why not an X-Wing and 2 Scyks?

IF they were to do a new core set i would suspect they would do it after the new movie, with the new version of the TIE and Xwing, they are the classic ships of the game and most recognizable to the general public

X-wing, tie interceptor, star viper

No, because X-Wings vs TIE Fighters are just iconic.

It would drive the cost up to include a forth or even fifth ship, ties vs x-wing gives a solid idea about how the game works and even with the new cards added it's still a straight forward game to learn.

I understand s&v players would like this and I don't object but I think it's unlikely one of the main appeals is the starter being so cheap, we don't want £70 starter sets like the 40k one.

X-wing, tie interceptor, star viper

I'm mostly unopposed to this.

Right now the only thing a new core set would be good for is including rule updates and adding in the debris clouds in adition to asteroids (Hey could we get an official terrain generator using the X-Wing dice?).

Unless they do something as a mission pack,

How about a Battle of Yavin pack which includes a Tie Fighter and a Y-wing with new pilots for both or a starter which has BoY Y Wing and an X-Wing and Tie Advance in addition.

yes, it is called most wanted.

Deluxe add on:

Include Wave 6.

Acrylic templates

Because we are going to buy the entire wave and by now our initial movement templates are showing wear.

Anything's possible with this game.

It does look like Most Wanted is sort of a core set for the third faction (maybe "core expansion" is the term). I would be happy to see something similar happen with the Empire (say, two TIEs and an Advanced -- gimme those Advanced upgrades; how about another version of Vader). For Rebels, maybe an X+Y+A in that style.

Why not x wing, tie advanced and some scum and villainy ship

Why not x wing, tie advanced and some scum and villainy ship

Because the tie advanced isn't the equal of an x-wing for one thing.

Going one on one on one with the X-Wing as the base I'd say the Imperials need the Interceptor and from I've seen the S&V would get the StarViper although that outclasses both of the other two ships. Maybe need to move to E-Wing/Defender for the Rebel/Imperial side of things and make everyone almost even again.

except that interceptors destroy x-wings single handily.. so not so much

That's why we will get the Most Wanted Expansions Pack, to get the new ships and stay the Core Set like we have, greettings.

Geez, who's flying THOSE X-Wings?

z-95, tie, and a scyk

Because the tie advanced isn't the equal of an x-wing for one thing.

This could be the solution to the tie advanced though. Tie advanced fix could be in the new core. If they put an interceptor against the xwing, the xwing gets smashed instead typically. The Viper and Advanced are good ideas, but we already have several xwings. Xwings are the name of the game and all, but we need to think about the state of the game, and the question is what does the game really need fro the reel perspective? Xwings might be the ship most in need of some work after all of these latest waves, but I wonder what everybody thinks?

I'm not going to say it won't happen, but I don't see it happening anytime soon, or there being any need for it. The core set is attractive to new buyers because it has the two ships that are people are most familiar with. If you put in stuff that people aren't familiar with, they are more likely to avoid it, thinking that it isn't "real Star Wars". Also for many gamers, they buy the core set and one or two ships and leave it at that. Changing the ships to the SV faction is far less appealing to those buyers.

I agree with whoever said it will probably be released with ships from the new movie.

We can probably expect 1 of the new X-Wings and 2 of whatever TIE fighter analogues the Empire is using.

A new rule books consolidating the FAQ and rules cards would be really nice actually...

The New Core box should also come with a Range 1 ruler and at least four red and green dice each instead of the original three each.
