I think Wave 6 will do better. I'm excited for it and I believe the xwing community is too. While Armada seems cool, I'm not in a position to invest in another spending habit. I'm sure others who would buy wave 6 might feel the same.
Will Wave 6 will be worst selling because...
lots of people will be saving for Armada?
Wave 6 is late '14. Armada is early '15. To field a tournament fleet for Armada will be about $220-$300 retail based on the prices in the FFG case at Gen Con.
I'll be getting it all but what about everyone else? Not trying to stir up trouble here; only putting forth an honest question.
Nope. This game is growing faster than anyone could have guessed. I'd bet Armada will get more people paying into Xwing due to it's price cost. That's a big price tag. Meanwhile, a third faction that allows you to cross over some of your ships and cards is going to generate a lot more sales I'm guessing. I know a good deal of us fight for one faction or the other, now we'll have to go 2... too efficient not to. And those will need to buy into all 3 now at some level.
Thing is you can buy all three factions and still pay less than a single GW army, saw on their site they want £500 for an undead army it's madness.
I look forward to armarda I wanna play with star destroyers!
I'm definitely getting both.
You only need a few ships really to play any one faction in X-wing, but I'll probably be getting them all anyway. And Armada looks like a fantastic starship fleet combat game that will attract a whole new legion of fans, plus I love fleet action games.
For anyone hoping for wave 6 before Christmas, I wouldn't hold your breathe. Wave 5 was supposed to be out by the end of this month and there's no way that's happening considering Rebel Aces is only just being released.
I think it will sell "worse," but more because of the new faction stuff.
Armada is not even a consideration.
I just hope for an SSD in armada. I'll buy it, but I plan to go as deep with it as attack wing. = core set + occasional expansion of a ship I like
I'm new to the game I don't own a tie or x-wing expansion yet but will buy all of wave 6 before I finish waves 3 and 1. Armada I will never own. I'm just not a miniature game player I'm a Star Wars fan first
Yep, except it gives me for example a faction that i really want to play over Empire or Rebels. Tastes. Not everybody is just empire or rebels.
Such wisdom.
No, not everybody is, but a hell of a lot are.

I don't think we'll know until it hits how popular it will be. Most people seem to think the popularity will match their personal preferences (shocking, I know).
The one thing I'd consider an actual data point here is the LCG. If there were going to be some actual bias against Scum (or Smugglers) it would have shown up there, but it doesn't seem to have done so. Players follow the metagame regardless of faction, and I at least haven't seen any particular aversion to any of the factions.
I know people who are super excited for Scum, and I know people who couldn't care less. Really, it seems just like every other ship that comes out. There's always people who don't care about a release, and they're generally sure that release won't sell just because they don't like it.
To be fair, Scum started out really, really, really bad. And Smugglers started out really, really, insanely good in the LCG (post Edge of Darkness, which had the Scum and Smuggler starters).
I think wave 6 may be the worst selling.
Not because of armada, but because a lot of people only play one faction and this set has nothing (or very little) for those 2 significant groups.

Out of all the local players around me, there isn't one single person I know of that ONLY plays one faction. Everyone has both. Honest.

I don't know a single person in my area that is just a "imperial or rebel", we mostly play what we want to play at the moment. In my zone i don't know a single person who isn't excited. Many people don't follow the game only for lore purposes, gameplay is important for them (myself included), and a new faction can open a new can of opportunities.

True enough. But people have migrated to Scum as they've improved, and Smugglers are still plenty strong.
So that's honestly kinda my point. The core premise there seemed to be "Nobody wants anything but straight Galactic Civil War", hence Scum would do badly. The closest thing we have to predicting that sort of faction split is the LCG, where non-Imp/Rebel factions have seemed to do just fine.
I think wave 6 may be the worst selling.

I stand by my point.
There are enough players on this forum who play one faction for me to feel it will make a difference.
And enough EU haters.
We'll see.

Are you serious?
Once people start posting lists with upgrades from Scum I suspect they will win most people over.
I'm all in on Scum. Might sound terrible but the perpetual battle of good and evil bores me over a long period of time. I like the common man more. It's just... Different, and that's cool.
If the rules to armada are not:
'Rebels always run from Empire unless they're prepared to lose a lot of ships to kill a death star'
...then it doesn't feel very star wars.
I didn't get the impression from the films that large ship battles happen very often. Yet skirmishes (befitting the X-wing game style) would have been frequent.
I'm interested in wave 6 for the variety and the expansion of scum. The question is, are there more players than ever so wave 6 will sell, or do FF sell a lot of these models on random starwars purchase grounds, and therefore they won't be as popular due to the general public not knowing what these ships have to do with Starwars...

Yeah, actually I am.
Most people tend to claim lots of people agree with them, but do so with very little evidence to back it up. You don't like it - fine, awesome. But at the moment there's pretty much nothing to support your claim of some groundswell of Rebel vs. Imperial Purity Movement.
So what I said was, "Define hell of a lot?". What I meant was, "Please stop making baseless claims about how so many people agree with you since you can't possibly have anything but anecdotal evidence, and not even much of that."
I will be picking up wave 6 first. Armada maybe depends on how it is priced and how the game plays.

I plan to head canon I am playing Imperial Remnants to justify this very issue.

I'll add my voice to the chorus of not knowing a single faction player. Everyone I've played with buys and plays both. For reference I play in competitive league nights and tournaments, literally hundreds of opponents over the last two years.
So, if the only people playing single faction are a small fraction of the small fraction of the player base that uses these forums then that doesn't really say "helluva lot" imho.
I personally believe S&V will sell great. I plan on picking it up as my 2nd faction. Since I buy for an entire game group I have a ton of rebel snd empire ships and im sure I will have a ton of Scum and Villainy as well
I'm much more excited for Wave 6 than I am for Armada. In fact, I'm much more excited for the as-yet unconfirmed and unannounced Imperial and Scum huge ships than I am for Armada.
Simple fact of the matter is, I REALLY like the X-Wing Miniatures game, I'm already invested in the huge ship version of the game and I'm not overly keen on the idea of switching to an entirely different scale and rules format.
