Best part of that wretched game. They even included the SWG Z-95 and the Nova Courier.
Wild Kardde for scum & villainy, anyone?
Yeah, I agree this is pretty **** disappointing. Armada looks great, but after getting all excited with the Corvette and Transport, we need an imperial equivalent, even if it's not something super recognizable. It's like they're just writing it off.
Maybe it's just me, but I kind of find the idea of the third faction underwhelming, sort of like they've run of ideas. Just like the EaW expansion, Forces of Corruption, it just feels like it pulls the game away from its focus. Maybe because I never got Shadows of the Empire, Black Sun doesn't feel all that important.
Am I the only one who is having trouble getting super hyped for wave 6 and the third faction, with the depressing news of no imperial huge ships on top of it? ![]()
Am I the only one who is having trouble getting super hyped for wave 6 and the third faction...
No. I will at most pick up a couple of the boxes with the Y-Wing and Z-95 in it, and only if it has some good upgrades for Rebel lists. If it's mostly S&V in there I'll most likely skip wave 6 completely. Just have no real interest in those ships or a 3rd faction myself, I think the StarViper is fuggggly. But I'm happy for all those who wanted it and got it.
Of course that does mean I'll be better able to save up money to buy more Armada stuff. ![]()
Okay, 3rd faction, thats cool and all, but I won't buy it, unless they indirectly buff my rebel stuff in such a way that the Y-wing gets, say, a crew member or something (R2-D2 crew+ droid that limits incoming damage to be a maximum of 2= lulz) that I am compelled to buy it.
I am really looking for a Huge ship or two or three. Please tell me that this isn't it!?! That there is more stuff coming!?! Right?
I am still hoping for an Imperial Capital Ship. Please...
Pretty pissed about this announcement.
First off having a real crappy day, and was so certain and hyped that we were going to get imperial huge ships.
I then get on here to see that it is indeed a third faction. Something which I feel is not needed. At the very least not at this point.
WTF!!!
You introduced epic play.
Released two huge ships for the rebels.
Nothing for imperials.
When playing against rebel vs imperials it is pretty one sided. Imo.
Since they get no huge ships to use they just massively out number and outgunned the rebels.
I feel as though they have now given up on epic
It makes more sense to go with the small ships over using the huge ones, since the imperial just engulf your fighters and one good round of focus firing on the Tantive basically make it useless, as now your using your energy on shields to keep it alive instead of putting that into your weapons.
My opponents usually have 4 shuttles and a Firespray all with hlc along with a mixture of bombers, ties and interceptors.
In a 300 point game if you're fielding a tantive with only 5-7 escorts, good luck.
You can't take them all on, especially after that first round where he focus fires on the Tantive.
I was hoping that imperial huge ships would kind of even the playing field.
If you were to do a epic tournament why even bother using a huge ship.
Just go with numbers.
So now for all those who have bought into this, like myself looking forward to it seeing more support I feel as though FFG has dropped epic play off their radar.
So "hey let's introduced this, get people to buy into it and drop it "
If they weren't going to mention it here then I don't expect to see anything in the future.it's been months and I would think by now they would have introduced something for imperials
And for what?
A third faction.
That we didn't need
I've felt like there was still plenty of life in this game, and introducing a third faction would be FFG last resort to keeping this game alive.
I thought that was a few years away.
I have to say this is probably going to be the nail in the coffin for me
I'm sorry but that is bull
I've played at lot of games made by FFG and this had made me lose faith in them as a company.
Ya, I'm sure lots here will disagree with me, but I don't care really.
To me this feels like a slap in the balls
I had to get that off my chest.
Edited by Krynn007Seeing the new faction, I'm pretty happy with it. We've got ships crossing factions, which I really like, and because each faction will have different ships available, they'll fill different roles. I also love the StarViper. Is it our huge ships? No. Will we get Imperial starships sometime soon? Who knows.
But hey, StarViper!
Krynn, buddy, I'm sorry you had a bad day! Calm down, it'll be alright!
It is a little puzzling that we don't have Imperial Epic ships yet, given the amount of time and resources that FFG obviously invested in putting out the GR-75 and CR-90 and creating Epic Play in the first place.
But Epic was always intended to be a "just for fun" kind of thing. It's not like the lack of Imperial huge ships is ruining the game from a balance perspective. Sure, it'd definitely be more fun if we had a couple, and I think we'll get them eventually, but everyone needs to just calm down and be patient.
FFG has given us plenty to get excited about while we wait.

It's nothing against you or the community here, but I was so hype and feels like they just slapped us in the face.
I mean those huge ships are not cheap.
And when they introduced epic tournament rules along with them, that gives you the sense that they are going to support it.
A third faction was the last thing imo this game needed and to see that as the big news just pissed me off more.
As far as I'm concerned they can gft
Edited by Krynn007Presumably someone asked "Where is the huge ships?" after the FFG panel, so hopefully an answer (or evade) should be floating out there somewhere.
Right...?
Even if i don't really care about Epic, i can sympathize with the "epic tournament rules" missleading part of the community. I disagree with the game not needed factions, because the game could get pretty short in ship releases if they didn't imho (or atleast substantial releases, Tie - variant 2000 just gets boring and stale).
Consider this from the perspective of FFG: Gencon announcements are an opportunity to create renewed interest in their games which may become, as any company would hope, future sales. Which announcement do you think would generate the most interest, conversation, and speculation--and therefore sales?
One, perhaps two Imperial huge ships at a high price point, or an entirely new faction with three new ships and the promise of refits and upgrades for another four? Dollar for dollar, selling clusters of new small ships is more profitable for the company than high-ticket huge ships not everyone will be able to afford.
Also, announcing Scum and Villainy at GenCon does not preclude the possibility of Imperial huge ships. The intent here is to get players talking, which is working already, and to get new players interested, which I believe is a good possibility. Announcing a new faction and new huge ships simultaneously would divert attention from each and lessen the impact of the big reveal. Already, Rebel Aces, the YT-2400, and the Decimator are available for sale at Gencon, and they announced an entirely new faction. There's only so much you can take in at once and appreciate. If Imperial huge ships are waiting in the wings (so to speak), displaying them at Gencon means FFG wouldn't have the opportunity to announce them later once the initial excitement over Scum and Villainy settles down.
I think it's a bit premature to say we won't see new huge ships at all. Let's enjoy our new toys for the moment and keep looking out for what's next.

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe someone that was there will chime in.

Ok with this I can sort of agree with, on the fact that if it's getting to that point of where they need to introduce a third that its their last ditch effort to keep this game going.
I didn't realize that we were at that point already.
I figured at very least a year and half, three max
They want to keep it going, because it is their best moneymaker at this point Krynn. But even if you don't like it, many people like the release of the faction, and will look forward to buy those ships, so i don't think it is some kind of desperation move, but something pleasing to most part of the community.
It is a bummer, but this doesn't mean that there isn't an imperial huge ship around the corner to satisfy the epic players. Only that it isn't as huge news as the third faction is.
Edited by DreadStarIt is a bummer, but this doesn't mean that there isn't an imperial huge ship around the corner to satisfy the epic players.
If they didn't announce it today, I don't expect to hear anything about it until Christmas if at all. It's not like they didn't have time to talk about it... So the fact that they didn't means even if they're working on such a thing, it's far enough out yet that they didn't have even prototypes to show.
Still with no Imperial huge the Rebels still have 4 pilots and upgrade cards not answered for by the imps.
I think this is pretty well mitigated by the (Imperial) Core, TIE Fighter, and TIE Interceptor coming with more unique and non-unique pilots than their Rebel counterparts.
I am sad at the lack of an Imperial Huge. Wave six is cool, but not enough to get me out of my funk. Star Wars Armada seems well thought out, but I'm not terribly interested in it. Team covenant's demo showed enough to get a decent feel for play, and it does seem to give a good feel of capital ship combat. It's just that I really wanted counterparts to the Rebel huges, to even out game play.

Wasn't the Transport and CR90 ship announcement unusually early compared to actual release and other waves?
While I can't say "HUGE" ships take longer to announce and distribute, even if they did announce it could be quite sometime before release...
sigh... really was looking forward to epic. Armada is still questionable for me but I expect I will be investing in one or the other, not both.

It's been how many months since they introduced epic play?
I would like to think that if they were in the works of keeping it goiing and supporting it they would have announced something by now.
I mean to give one side two huge ships?
It's only natural to expect for them to give the other side the same treatment.
Also having the epic tournament rules and with teamplay rules really made me think that they were going to continue to support this.
Honestly I find it hard to believe that we will see something down the road.
If they were working on something, surely they must have had some ideas, prototypes, play testing by now.
I feel as though they just dropped 2 expensive ships on us and walked away from it.
As much as I love this game, that is something I was really looking forward to as I know many others.
I'm not the only one who bought these ships.
These ships which btw I feel are pretty useless in it's current state. Like I said. Try going against an opponent who has 5 ships (4 omnicron pilot 1 Bounty hunter = 50 hp) all with heavy laser cannons, and then bombers with missles, and ties and interceptors. The tantive and what little escorts you have can't do enough damage to slow that down. So I was hoping imperial ships were going to change that and even the playing field.
In all honesty I don't even know if I want to buy into Armada now as I feel like if I try it, they may drop it down the road.
I also kind of had the feeling after seeing Armada release though I was excited I also had a gut feeling that this was something they decided after epic play was introduced and thought maybe... just maybe this was going to replace that.
I am now afraid that my gut feeling may have been correct.
I think they may have dropped epic play in support of Armada. Which again, just pisses me off right now.
Plus why couldn't they introduce both if they had something in the works for imps huge ships? This just tells me they have nothing to offer.
I don't think they will offer anything down the road.
Sure people on here have been asking for a third faction, but there has also been a lot of talk about imperial huge ships, and for those people they get nothing?
I don't think this game needed a third faction.
I'm not sure how it's incorporated into this game, but I liked the idea of having the game between imperials and rebels. I was never a big fan of the scum and villiany idea. Really couldn't care less.
IMO it's a **** shame they went that route
It was a good game, and I had a lot of fun.
Got me away from gaming on my PS4, but I can always find another hobby.
Not sure, but may sell my stuff.
Or I may just keep what I have until my kids get older and play with them as they may like it.
.
Eh, I'm not saying that the game is imbalanced or anything, but I do feel like the Rebels get a lot more cool toys. That would be to drag up a Rebel vs. Imperial Aces comparison I suppose. I'm also still not quite comfortable with how to fit the Wave 4 Imperial ships into lists, except for 1 Phantom supporting standard Ties, so maybe that's part of it. I'm guessing that this faction is another attempt to break the perceived swarm meta, which also seems to be the intent of waves 4 and 5. However, mutatis mutandis, there seems to have been little issue taken with 2B + ? and the prevalence of 4-ship Rebel lists. And then, even though I dont' really want to, the prevalence of Falcons makes me think I should go back to a pure swarm and that the meta scales tipped against the Phantom. So, perhaps I'm conflating a bunch of separate issues, but I just want an awesome Imperial thing to get excited about.

Nearly, yes.
I guess my theory is that they're still planning the TIE-carrying version of the Gozanti, but that Disney is telling them to hold off for SW:Rebels to air in October.
