Where is the Huge Ships?

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

I posted this in another thread, but i think it bears repeating here. I don't think Epic is dea, becasue they JUST updated the Epic rules, specifically changing the handling of energy on the huge ships. I don't think they would have bothered doing that if they were just going to drop it.

Worlds is in November, maybe they're saving Huge ships for then? Disappointing, but at least it would give them something to announce?

Ok with this I can sort of agree with, on the fact that if it's getting to that point of where they need to introduce a third that its their last ditch effort to keep this game going.

I didn't realize that we were at that point already.

The introduction of a third faction now could conceivably have been timed to push that point as far away as possible. You wouldn't want them, and I doubt they'd want, to wait until they wrapped design and production on the last Rebel ship and then go "hmm, okay, what next?"

I guess my theory is that they're still planning the TIE-carrying version of the Gozanti, but that Disney is telling them to hold off for SW:Rebels to air in October.

(1) For shame, Mister Hasselstein: that's a hypothesis, not a theory.

(2) I don't think I want to endorse that hypothesis in particular, but it's probably worth keeping in mind that there are a lot of potential hiccups and veto points in this kind of marketing thing.

+1 (I'm out of "likes" for the day.)

It's the thought that counts

It's been how many months since they introduced epic play?

It's been a year to the day I think since they announced the CR-90 and GR-75...

Nearly, yes.

Very possible on the tie-in to SW:Rebels.

Having worked with companies doing licensed products before, it could also simply be that they haven't gotten far enough through the approval process for Imperial Huge Ships to actually have a model to show us at this point. This could be particularly problematic if they are indeed trying to do the Gozanti because LFL could have demanded certain changes in design, etc to make certain that it looks like the one appearing in Rebels.

It may also be that they took a lesson from previewing the Rebel Huge ships so far in advance of the actual release and wanted to hold the announcement of the Imperial ships until they were actually ready to be produced and released. It was 7-8 months between the CR-90 and GR-75 being previewed last year and the actual release date. That's a huge time-lag, especially with so many other releases coming sooner that they want us to be excited for.

I'm still have every confidence that Imperial Huge ship(s) are coming.

Jim

When I saw the tiny open space on the shelf , I knew that we were going to get more fighters...Never expected another faction ; especially since every freakin interview was noooooo third faction...In any case , I was all set to see just a glimpse of what Epic will get...Glad I did nott go to Gencon now...

Pretty pissed about this announcement.

First off having a real crappy day, and was so certain and hyped that we were going to get imperial huge ships.

I then get on here to see that it is indeed a third faction. Something which I feel is not needed. At the very least not at this point.

WTF!!!

You introduced epic play.

Released two huge ships for the rebels.

Nothing for imperials.

When playing against rebel vs imperials it is pretty one sided. Imo.

Since they get no huge ships to use they just massively out number and outgunned the rebels.

I feel as though they have now given up on epic

It makes more sense to go with the small ships over using the huge ones, since the imperial just engulf your fighters and one good round of focus firing on the Tantive basically make it useless, as now your using your energy on shields to keep it alive instead of putting that into your weapons.

My opponents usually have 4 shuttles and a Firespray all with hlc along with a mixture of bombers, ties and interceptors.

In a 300 point game if you're fielding a tantive with only 5-7 escorts, good luck.

You can't take them all on, especially after that first round where he focus fires on the Tantive.

I was hoping that imperial huge ships would kind of even the playing field.

If you were to do a epic tournament why even bother using a huge ship.

Just go with numbers.

So now for all those who have bought into this, like myself looking forward to it seeing more support I feel as though FFG has dropped epic play off their radar.

So "hey let's introduced this, get people to buy into it and drop it "

If they weren't going to mention it here then I don't expect to see anything in the future.it's been months and I would think by now they would have introduced something for imperials

And for what?

A third faction.

That we didn't need

I've felt like there was still plenty of life in this game, and introducing a third faction would be FFG last resort to keeping this game alive.

I thought that was a few years away.

I have to say this is probably going to be the nail in the coffin for me

I'm sorry but that is bull

I've played at lot of games made by FFG and this had made me lose faith in them as a company.

Ya, I'm sure lots here will disagree with me, but I don't care really.

To me this feels like a slap in the balls

I had to get that off my chest.

I get the frustration about the huge imperial ships. I want one badly too. However I'd rather they take a little more time and make them good than just throw us a bone and half way do it.

I like the idea of the third faction to a degree. I've been happy with the decisions ffg has made with this game for the most part. The third faction gives us some more options, and that can be a good thing. I'll withhold judgement until I see what they do with the third faction. Just hope they do something to make them different and fun. Hopefully they will figure out how to do the imperial huge ships the right way sooner or later and fill that hole, but I want them to do it the right way.

Rather than frustrated, I'm concerned for the future of Epic play. With the Imperial ships not announced yet, the odds of them being released around the same time as Armada have decreased. A lot of people who were anxious for Imperial ships were so because it'd let them have epic capital ships versus capital ship battles with fighters buzzing in between. Now that Armada is on the scene, a lot of those players are debating with themselves which of the two games to go for.

Which wouldn't be a problem for Epic in and of itself. If the Imperial ship hit the shelves around the same time as Armada. Because at that point, people are still on the fence and choosing. But if Armada comes first, and the Imperial ship is still a while away... I can see many of those players Epic players moving to Armada. And once the Imperial big ships come out, they'll have found a comfortable place with Armada and will feel far less of a pull to play Epic.

Armada wave 1 is yawn inducing. No way are people going to pump $200 into that game just for the chance to joust around a few mediocre frigates and VSDs.

Game will flop hard, then we'll get back to Epic.

Getting back? Currently there's only one side that's really playing Epic, with the other half having little beyond "just put more fighters on the field" as an option.

The Clown Car ought to help a bit.

So you guys are mad that we don't get huge ships in x wing...

How big do you expect a star destroyer of mon calamari cruiser to be?

If they stay even REMOTLY on x wing scale then a star destroyer would be what? 3 to 6 feet in lenght? And the Executor would'nt even fit in my local GAMESTORE!

The Decimator? A supersized Falcon doesn't really get close to Epic play for me.

Heck, even with its size and ramming options, a Corvette can still play Pacman with it.

No, Imperial Epic ships were what I was looking out for. It was the one thing that kept myself from deciding to go full-blown Armada and leaving Epic. Without Imperial ships, there really isn't anything stopping me from just going Armada for the capitals and X-wing for the dogfights. Leaving Epic... well, nowhere.

Bwuh? No, no we don't. When we say "huge" we mean "CR90 Epic style" huge.

SSD's and Mon Calamari's in X-wing would be ridiculous.

I just want to be able to field something with the Epic symbol myself to take on the Corvette and Transports of my rebel playing friends.

Mmmm,hyperbole. Tasty.

Ah i see... so thats huge huh? (insert your thats-what-she-said joke here)

But I see your point now; It would be nice for my B-wings to shoot at some bigger prey.

Does the empire even have any ships in blockade runner size?

Maybe a troop lander (full of AT AT's and storm troopers) but i have no idea what they would look like...

Okay I exagerated.. The Executor WOULD fit inside the game store- except not trough the door- and it wouldn't be able to take move actions... :)

SSD carpet should solve the problem. Makes moving more difficult, but it didn't do a lot of moving in the movies either, so it's still iconic.

At this point we might aswel track down the original scale modes used for shooting teh death star trench run and use those :)

But can we get a SSD love pillow instead? :) (executor on the front, slave Leia on the back)

An SSD carpet would also make ships sliding around less of a problem as well. Woohoo!

The only reasons I can think of...

  • Testing issues. Trying to fix regular to huge ship balance with upgrade cards and they turn out too powerful or something like that.
  • CR90 and transport just didn't sell enough to warrant time into it. Considering their customers can buy 6 regular expansion for the same price, profit could be much better on the smaller ships.
  • They are having production issues... not enough factory time to build them compared to their other projects.
  • They are waiting a little bit longer for what ever reason

Personally I think the game has been a whirl wind of change for the last year and doesn't really need a new faction, where as EPIC has been announced and around for a year and not finished yet. You would think at least a bone would have been thrown.

EDIT: Doesn't need a new faction right now... there is plenty of new stuff to figure out for a while.
