Where is the Huge Ships?

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

Also consider that the 'huge' ships are actually half scale compaed to the fighters and large ships.

The empire just doesnt have anything iconic that could be even half scaled and still be playable on most peoples tables...

sure lots of boxy EU and relatively obscure stuff but really IMP players want a star destroyer.

The smallest i can think of is an interdictor and even at quarter scale it would be the best part of a metre?

I think someone at FFG a while back went 'hey these huge ships are selling well, lets do a capital ship game'

The only thing they could have possibly done that was well known and 'film canon' would have been a nebulon and that would have been half the table still.

Could still have a surprise reveal of a huge Imperial ship maybe?

well the 3rd faction gets what I'm assuming is a box with cards to play with the Slave I and the HWK? So they do get a large ship. It is kinda odd how the Slave I which was one of a kind in the lore is now one of the most widely used and available ships in X-Wing :P

Is there not EU explanation that Fetts use of it made KUAT (or whatever the pretend ship company is called) relaunch it

Anyone that's played epic has seen the short coming of running a huge ship. When 12 tie fighters can drop your corvette in one turn, there's a problem! They should have released both factions at the same time and made them a lot stronger. That being said, Armada will probably be the huge ship system they support going ahead, and I think I'm ok with that.

Trust me.

When you see the Assault Frigate in 3D, you'll warm up to it.

Have you seen it yet?

I googled the EAW version and while it was a little more flattering, I'm still not crazy about it.

I play Empire at War all the time. There's a reason I said trust me.

No really though.

Who has ever heard of a Gladiator-class star destroyer?

Just... yuck.

Still with no Imperial huge the Rebels still have 4 pilots and upgrade cards not answered for by the imps.

Uh, I have. It's good to see it- The Empire gets a carrier in wave 1. Very nice.

Personally when I saw that Armada was coming out I had already said to myself I would not be in a rush to buy any more epic sized pieces for it. The new faction just gives more bang for the buck for a game thats primary focus is on dogfighting.

Lackwit is spot on about the Assault Frigate. Tough little ship.

Very decent one. Analogous to the VSD, like. REALLY. REALLY equal. No hangars though.

The Imperial Huge ship will be revealed when the tournament champion is crowned... it will be the "trophy"...

Epic isnt one sided, just take 12 Tie fighters for 144 points, you will win every time. Or, at least I have lost to 12 TIE fighters + 256 points of whatever (400 total)

One does not simply beat a 12 strong swarm.

No this is fair enough, I did not mean one sided as in imps can win, I meant thematically. It is one sided if you don't feel like flying fighter swarms every time, I would like both sides of the table to enjoy the same range of experience and tactics in terms of scale etc though... does this make sense?

Who has ever heard of a Gladiator-class star destroyer?

Everyone who's played EAW. It was called the Broadside in the game, but it's the same ship.

No! No, it wasn't! Stop saying this, people!

F**k's sake! they're two very different ships. One is a missile cruiser, the other a carrier!

THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK THE SAME.

How in the WORLD are people getting these things F**KING CONFUSED!?

Well tbh its making it so that Epic play is a dead game by not releasing some form of Imperial equiv. The reason why is Epic Play is fairly decent playstyle which does add some nice gameplay to the table. Still FF need to come out and say they are not supporting it in the future to end these sort of topics!

Realistically third faction should of come after the imps got their epic ships.

I mean, is it too much to ask for a 6ft Star Destroyer... :D

No! No, it wasn't! Stop saying this, people!

You're right they're not. The Wookiepedia mentioned the broadside, and I and apparently others jumped to the wrong conclusion.

It was however in the cartoon Droids.

That much is true.

Sorry, I'm legitimately irritated. Wook does dumb, dumb things and those two ships... There's... Just no relation.

All it said was that they shared the same keel design as the broadside.

exactly you cant really do an 'iconic' imperial 'huge'.

The only thing you could do would be a nebulon and at the reduced scale the CR90 is in, it woudl still be about 18 inches long though!

But... everyone would want something pointy and star destroyer like. To make it sell it really would have to be something really really good... i dont think EU stuff like the lancer would catch peoples imaginations. Huge ships are out of most peoples gaming price range

You'd have to further reduce the scale and that would be really lame having a 1/4 scale star destroyer in comparison to the fighters.

Vigil would work quite nicely as a wedge shaped imperial Huge.

Honestly, just an Imperial CR-90 conversion would make me happy. Just SOMETHING for the Imps in Epic play. I really, really like epic play...but it's just kind of a half-formed idea at this point.
