Finish this list: 2 A-wings and 41 points left

By R22, in X-Wing

Trying to capture the spirit of the A-wings as quick little buggers a la Death by a Thousand Cuts. These two guys allow for almost regular boost + barrel roll/daredevil each turn plus one left over action. So who should their friends be?

-Tycho (33 or 32)

Title + Refit + PTL + DD or EH + Experimental Interface

-Jake (28)

Title + Refit + PTL + Predator

Total: 61 or 60

Thoughts on uses for leftover points? Daredevil or Expert Handling for Tycho? Predator or something else entirely for Jake?

I've considered a turret, like Dutch with an ion so he can also give out target locks while rocking some torpedoes, Roark's HWK with a cheap fourth ship with Squad Leader, Cracken in a Z-95, Green Squadron Pilot with Predator+Outmaneuver, Nera Dantels loaded for bear, etc.

I haven't even wrapped my head around the new cards like Lone Wolf and Stay on Target.

Some turrets for anti everything.

What do you want from the list? Speed or hitting power?

A-wings are cool but lack a real punch. Predator is a bit of waste on a 2 shot ship. IMO.

Maybe two Knave's with advance senses. Or try to get some action symmetry Garven/Cracken

Corran Horn. FCS, Push the Limit, R2 Astromech.

I just really want to try these two guys together, it seems super fun to have 3 actions per turn with each fairly regularly. Consistent boost and barrel roll/daredevil --plus the necessary focus to make their 2 attack relevant-- I feel like would really capture the tricky spirit of the A-wing.

Just realize you're setting yourself up for action denial counter strategy. With that in mind, I would think DD would be better on Tycho. That way you could do a 5 straight to get beyond all the action denials, and then DD + Boost to turn around to get a shot.

Cracken+ z's for some serious slapping!

PTl+ OUTMANEUVER is hard for me to replace on Jake. I highly recommend it. Gemmer is also solid but a tich expensive.

Roark+ Ion + tactician and a Tala is solid.

I think the triple action Tycho is cool...but not for north of 30pts.

I like Dutch a lot. Battlefield control with the ion, some overall tankiness and his ability can really help out the two attack dice.

I have to say, I like what you're going for here, especially with Tycho and Jake tag teaming.. As for ships to fill them out, maybe something like this -

Airen Cracken (19), Wingman (2), and Cluster Missiles (4) - 25 points

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12), Ion Pulse Missile (3) - 15 points

Total of 40 points. You could shave off the Ion Pulse missile to spare yourself 3 points, for the initiative bid, and also depending on what your final loadout is on Tycho (you had 32 or 33 points on him depending on which upgrade you decided on..)

Cracken attacks and hands out a free action, or 2 free actions if he uses the Cluster missile. He also has the ability to strip a stress token from one of your ships (less of a concern on Tycho obviously)

The Bandit is there as support, and with the Ion Missile, he is a threat to large ships. Without the Ion, he is less of a threat, but is there to run interference, as well as being a blocker..

Jake is PS7 though, will he really have that many, er, opportunities to fire on token less targets? A fair few pilots are lower than his PS7 -- unless you mean as a threat to higher PS pilots?

If you can shave off a point off you could go 2x Green Squadron Pilot A-wing Test Pilot, Chaardan Refit, Push The Limit, Wingman for 44 points. All that PTL A-wing goodness with (provided they stick at R1 of each other which isn't that hard) none of the stress. Which means the whole dial.

OUTMANEUVER...my bad.

Ahh. I'd still welcome your reasoning on that. I thought the community established that predator was somewhat better than outmaneuver but I suppose Jake's ability amounts to a bias in favor of it? I take it this has worked out a good return of investment for you?

I like VI on Jake as the second EPT. His native PS 7 is high, but not high enough to protect you from other elite named pilots. And with the boost+barrel roll combo you really want to be moving last to stay out of as many arcs as possible.

With PTL/Outmanuver Jake functions almost exactly like an interceptor. More so if there are focus shenanigans in the list (cracken being foremost) as he can TL, boost/evade, free focus, BR all in a single round and with Cracken's help, 2 of those in the combat round for a psuedo Turr. Either way he functions a lot like Fel in an Awing.

Step 1: Position as needed using either Boost or BR

Step 1b: Free focus token

Step 2: use action 2 for whatever you need: Getting out of an arc to avoid fire or activate Outmaneuver, tanking up with evade, TL for offense

Step 3: Fire with TL focus or both on a ship and make it lose a defense dice probably at range 1.

It's not quite like 4 dice+ focus on an interceptor at range 1 but pretty darn close and more consistent. Predator is good but on a ship with multiple positioning actions Outmaneuver gets better pretty much across the board (I think predator wins when firing at a ps 1-2 and another offensive action...and really helps crack those Agility 3-4 ships.

If you can shave a couple points to get those two in at 58, you could have a pair of x-wings accompany them. Alternatively, a gold+ion and Cracken.
