Ion Torpedoes Spoiled!

By Dr Lucky, in X-Wing

Where was this spoiled?

I'm not sure that it was. I just entered the card name into the standard image link FFG uses and it worked.

Is there anything else we know of that hasn't been spoiled yet? Could

this work for that too?

There is still a modification card in each set that is unspoiled I believe.

Goodness.

Very...

In their previous previews, the facedown cards were always just multiples of the card next to them.

Well, you can say goodbye to all those already-of-dubious-use close-range abilities like Colonel Jendon and Captain Yorr.

They really nailed the coffin shut tight on Howlrunner/Jonus swarms with this. If you get 3 or 4 ships ioned at once with this, it's pretty much game over.

Except that nobody currently uses the much better than this assault missile. What makes you think anyone is going to use this card. If nobody uses the card then it doesn't (or rather shouldn't) change the meta at all.

I predict that everyone who likes this card will not use it, much like almost all other ordnance.

I would use this card to protect my table from beverages, but it isn't big enough.

Well, looks like Echo will have to start using Lone Wolf now and stay away from his teammates. You wouldn't want him ioned by splash.

Except that nobody currently uses the much better than this assault missile. What makes you think anyone is going to use this card.

1) Because it goes on different ships. One of the biggest problems with assault missiles is finding the right ship to deliver them. A-wings are too expensive, the TIE advanced just plain sucks (almost forgot it even exists!), bombers seem to be better in a swarm with seismic charges, YT-1300s/Firesprays have better things to do, and non-Blount z-95s seem to be better as a naked swarm. And none of these ships have very strong unique pilots to use those missiles. Torps, on the other hand, go on different ships that may or may not be a viable option. For example, Wedge with ion torps gives a 4-dice alpha strike with no bonus dice at range 3 (maximizing the 1-2 shots you're likely to get with him before he dies) and is very likely to get the splash damage as well.

2) Because it has more potential to completely screw a list with a single shot. Assault missiles are clearly powerful when they work, but they don't provide much immediate effect. Reducing the HP on a bunch of ships that you're not currently shooting at sets up a better situation in the future, but to take advantage you need to survive to reach that future. Putting ion tokens on multiple ships can give immediate results: ships that can't get into arc and lose a turn (or more!) of shooting, ships that bump or can't clear stress and lose actions, ships that block maneuvering paths and ruin a formation's plans, and ships that fly predictably into perfect kill shots.

And of course it comes with the Decimator: rack'em up and plow into them.

I previously lamented the difficult access to the Flechette Torpedo card for Imperial Players ... this card just plain negates all my problems with that; esspecially since this might solve a lot of problems I had with Bomb placement in the past

It's good to play Empire

Very nice toy for TIE Bombers.

Wow. Powerful card.

Y Yes!!!

This seems to be one of the most powerful cards I've seen yet. Bombers rejoice!

2014 has been renamed "Year of the Anti-Swarm".

As it was pointed out, bombs are going to be much easier to place against a swarm (or even a small formation). I might even want to throw in some proton bombs and go for direct hits. It'll be fun!

STRIKE!

I predict a new game of how many ships you can ion/ram in a single phase.

Looks like FFG is bringing in some swarm-hate this wave! But man. That 5 points. Why must torps always be so expensive...

Oh! But unlike other ion weapons, this can do more than one damage when it hits! Nice!

I've pretty much never run anything but bombs on Firesprays, they can fire out of the rear arc, yes?

Negative.

Yeah and besides cheese is much better on meat and pastas... etc.

what set does this come in? Rebel aces? or yt-2400?

Decimator...you get 2 of them.

... and since I am buying three Decimators... my six-pack of Y-Wing Babies... oh my... my, my, my!

:D

yeah may have to pick up a 3rd decimator now..!!!

That'll be $70 very well spent I think.

The age of the Swarm is over.

The time of the Turrets has come!

At least in my local.

I wouldn't jump the gun on that quite yet. I believe swarms will just be handled much differently but still exist.

Haven't we been in that since wave 2?

At least in my local.

I arrived to the game with wave 4, so for me it has been always the time of the turrets anyways, i am just doing a satire, i should had been more clear.

This ion torp is not much different from the Assault missile, good when you get the ideal conditions, overpriced when you do not. There will be ships that can make use of it regardless, but i do not see it becoming something so standard that it can make completely dissappear swarms.

Swarms will adapt. Spread out for movement, swoop in close for the kill, spread out again after. You know.. like.. piloting or something.
