This thing love huge ships. 4 damage and an ion token to the huge ship and then an ion to all ships in range 1.
This could really be effective in combination with APL equipped blocker ships, as well as the ramming decimator. Ion a formation in the first exchange, and set the enemy formation up to all run into your APL ship. Also synergy with intimidate for the same reason, and could be a reason to take enhNced scopes to guarantee the APL block.
The crowd control potential In this torpedo is just massive. It opens up the door to countless movement control shenanigans.

I think I'll have to flip a coin for Blount's loadout every match.
Blount can't carry torpedoes. He is missiles-only.
WHOOPS.
That makes it fit a really odd place, I can't think of any torp-carrying ships that I'd like to carry this on, especially at 5 points.
Why? Compared to a regular proton torp, you lose the single-focus-to-crit conversion, but if you are firing this with TL+focus, you'll still get damage from that result, and in exchange you ionize the target you hit AND everything around it.
This is...a LOT better than regular proton torps!
I've been wanting a splash damage torpedo for awhile. Splashing Ion tokens seems like fun too. It took me a minute to catch on that it doesn't reduce damage like other ion weapons, which is interesting.
These will work well on Ibtisam, Nera, and Horton.
Also really fun on an R3 equipped Hobbie. Or a B-wing/E with a Tactician.

Well, you can say goodbye to all those already-of-dubious-use close-range abilities like Colonel Jendon and Captain Yorr.
They really nailed the coffin shut tight on Howlrunner/Jonus swarms with this. If you get 3 or 4 ships ioned at once with this, it's pretty much game over.

I would use it. At least try it. And see what the consensus/math becomes on the usefulness.
