Who’s up for a homebrew 3rd Faction?

So what ideas do you have already, Patox?

Don't want to waste too much ink on this, since it may all go by the wayside come Friday at noon Central Time.

But here are the basic things that we've come up with:

  1. The 3rd Faction ships can hit hard
  2. To counter this, the ships will have a major achilles heel – think of the squadron as a powder keg, the more powerful the bomb, the shorter the fuse, this is the new mechanism that we've developed
  3. Upgrades are 3rd Faction Exclusive
  4. There are new actions
  5. Eventually we want different, faction exclusive ships, but we're currently using the Z-95, YT-1300, Firespray and HWK

We have all the pieces and they're fairly polished. It almost looks like a finished expansion. But looks are deceiving. There's a lot to do to balance upgrades and pilots. I don't even know if they're the right upgrades. Right now all the upgrades feel like extensions of X-Wing rather than something completely different. But for now, we just want to get it to play right. All the pilots are generic, because we don't want to introduce another variable of pilot ability, at least not yet.

I also thought up today that FFG may be releasing an entirely separate game that is compatible with X-Wing. That would be an interesting approach. Maybe this 3rd Faction doesn't use Focus or Evade. Maybe it has a 15" Range Ruler? And each Range is 5"

If there's new factions, it would be great to form a proper design team and evaluate everything and see what sticks and where we should start over.
