Why is availability an issue?

I see you are a UKnian.

I can recommend Chaos Cards, The Dice Shop Online and Element Games.

Unfortunately none of them have the falcon expansion at the minute, the falcon seems to be getting a re-print with some card fixes (and I guess the new barrel roll rules)

also Amazon UK has stock, looks like totalwargamer.co.uk also has stock (but check with them before you buy - they have a habit of sometimes not marking OOS items as OOS),

Hey VNV nice to have you!

The post replies pretty much cover it all-FFG does sell out and have to reprint (I've had to wait for a few ships myself-frustrating but you will get them in the end). To give a few further UK based stockist options I've used both games sesh and games lore both have been great (both unhelpfully are currently out of falcon stock). You might find some at your FLGS...?

Don't get stuff from totalwargamer, they are seriously bad, nothing ever shows up.

Review info is always a good thing to help avoid the cowboy outfits-probably even more so than recommendations...

Just to mention I've never used totalwargamer so have no comment on them...

Am I the only one here who still plays a GW game? I love my Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit SBG by GW but I still have lots to complain about them for like prices compared to what they were only 4 years ago and no longer supporting the game I like. They also wreaked 40K which I no longer play. But in their defense they have wonderful customer service and have sent completely new models for any small missing part. But I don't think you need to try to turn people away from playing their game if they still enjoy it.

Lol, this is true I agree and lets please keep it this way, but lets talk about FFG inventory because I think we can draw a connection to the less than stellar GW finincial statement they publicly announced recently.

First thing first, it is no secret that the economy for well many people across Europe and America is not up (I think Germany is the only one with growth) So as of now people are not spending so much money on things such as hobbies as it now competes with everyone's budget for necessities. Many companies know this so as of now FFG is keeping their inventory relatively low. They only make miniatures that they are certain they can sell. Now take a look at GW and their inventory. It is huge you never have a problem getting models (as long as they don't discontinue it) and all their stores have well stocked shelves, but they are not selling many. Now you can blame the price increases and you wouldn't be far off the mark. However a fellow player told me when Wave 1 was first released he saw prices reaching $40 to the lack of supply so price per model is not really that key of a factor. But the cost to make, manufacture, ship and the biggest if you cannot sell it then storage of a model can drive up the prices.

FFG has no retail locations. They do not sell directly to customers (with the exception of online sales which is becoming easier to do). They sell to retailers on wholesale prices who then sell to customers. So they don't have to financially manage all the local retailers. Once they sold it to a retailer, it is off their shelf and their profit is made. GW hasn't mad a profit until you buy it from their GW store or a 3rd Party retailer purchases a product for their shops.

However to sum it all up in few words is in a slow economy you do not want a large inventory. Large inventories are good in boom economies because it allows you to consistently profit off of the high demand. However when demand is not high enough to justify a large inventory which can immediately satisfy a single customer's demand, you would want is smaller in a more manageable level. If that means you run out of product, so be it. You can still make more customers will just have to wait.

I will never buy from totalwargamer.co.uk and advise anyone not to order from them. I made an order of 6 completely different items that they said was in stock when ordering but over 4 months never dispatched it. They rarely answered emails, and when they did they claimed my order would be posted tomorrow. Even when I cancelled the order it took 6 months for them to refund my money. There is FB pages and blogs dedicated to people being owed a lot of money from these cowboys

I've had nothing but a few minor gripes with TWG - specifically their attitude that just because something is not listed as out of stock that does not in fact mean that it is in stock.

While technically correct on their part I didn't find that attitude to be particularly stellar in terms of their PR.

Overall though with about £600 worth of orders placed with them since christmas, I've had every single order delivered promptly, emails answered quickly, and the one time I asked for a refund, the money was back in my account within 3 days.

Perhaps the bad press has forced them to up their game somewhat

I put this question to the forum about two weeks ago, having a similar problem with the YT-1300 in the UK. Having had nothing but stellar service from chaos cards I've spoken with them about getting more stock in. They estimated new units will roll out September ish with the new wave, so i'm holding off till then. Chances are if someone says 'its in stock' they might be fibbing....

And welcome BTW!

Actually, I still play WFB freqently, and just built a new DE army. But GWs marketing and business strategy is seriously a downer. Annual price increases should not be a standard part of your business model. Also not letting your players what is being released or what army is having its rules rewritten, or even if an entire new edition is coming out, until THE WEEK BEFORE IT HAPPENS is stupid in soooo many ways.

Buy your lotr stuff now because from what the financial blurb indicated they plan to drop it after five armies has come out.

After 20+ years I've had enough of games workshop and am in the process of getting into x-wing. I got myself the core set and found it really easy to get into. No painting, modelling etc... I do love it. The only problem I have come across is the availability of various expansions and in particular the millenium falcon. Is it normal for expansions to go out of stock and stay out of stock for what seems like long periods if time, or have I just got into it too late and missed out on them?

I think the game has simply taken off better than expected and they are having difficulty meeting demand because they made their arrangements for manufacturing based an grossly underestimated sales projections. It is a good thing really though it might not seem like it when you are waiting for your ships to come back in stock. No doubt so long as demand remains high they will eventually adjust for it in future production runs. I say just bear with it for now and take it as a sign that the game is going strong.

Not sure if someone mentioned this already, but I found that a lot of Barnes and Nobel stores have the falcon. Since no one expects them to carry X-Wing. I found 2 at each of the 3 stores I went to in the Bay Area.

We don't have them here In the UK.

I was in Forbidden Planet, Southampton 2 weeks ago they still had a couple of Falcons and all the Wave 4 stuff. Not sure if they do on line orders though.

Forbidden planet in general has one, I took a look when I was trying to find a falcon. It just says unavailable. I'm in surrey and im honestly trying to justify a trip there...

I just bought a falcon at worldofboardgames.com.

Already mentioned but I think the availability issues stems from the uncanny popularity of the game. I think everyone expected the game to be popular but I wouldn't have guessed it would become the smash hit it has.. I doubt Ffg projected anything even approaching this level of sales.

I think the 3rd party market has gone kind of nuts as well there is a ton of reselling going on, much of it at insane prices.

The game is hugely popular. I put my Warhammer stuff away to play this game as a lot of my group has jumped to this game. When I took the initial plunge about a week ago there was a price difference between the rebel stuff and the imperial stuff. So I of course just picked up everything imperial that I could get my grubby little hands on and will start to build out my rebel force as the restocks hit the shelves.

Awesome game, welcome to the club.
