That Moment you Know in a Game

By zhentil, in X-Wing

We have all been there. That sense of dread or optimism when holding those 3 or 4 dice in our hand knowing if we can get those 2 evades or 3 hits on 4 dice we will win that game. We have been on both ends. I have been on the receiving end of 2 hits on 4 dice and thinking hey, i got 5 dice to evade and watching myself roll yatzee with blanks.

But there are subtle times when you look back on a game and go, wait...nope.. when i missed that roll 2 turns ago. We have all cursed our dice, or maybe others have cursed them we don't know it lol.

This is just a spot to park your frustrations of your dice and maybe shame as they deserve lol.

A few weeks ago my TIE fighter killed a Phantom by getting 2 hits, and the Phantom got one blank and 5 focuses (no token). But somehow when I rolled those two hits, I knew it was going to get through.

On the opposite end, I can't tell you how many times I've played my friend matt, declared "it's going to be a direct hit", then drew the crit card for it to be just that. Probably at least 15 times.

Seeing all blanks on 5 agility dice is why I stoped using Stealth Device.

First time I ran Biggs - Stealth Device, R3-A2, range 3. 5 blanks against the first shot. I guess I should just be glad I wasn't behind an asteroid too.

I wonder if agility dice aren't so bad as we all make out, but everyone just has one of these stories.

Luck or not I've rolled 16 blank dice in a row.

My best was 3 crits from a z-95 that somehow ended up behind a phantom at range 1 once everything was a furball. The one hit that got through was a direct hit. Luckiest for me of my oponnent rolling was.the same phantom earlier shooting at biggs at range 1; 5 blanks.

Last night wedge shot Vader the green dice came up blank and the crits were both 2 damage each, same turn two a-wings shot at my defender I rolled six blanks so I knew it was over but kept playing because it's bad sportsmanship to just call a game after one bad turn.

One turn eight blank greens, I must of displeased the dice gods somehow.

Every game I play, there is an ebb and flow to how the results come up. I watched it three times last week. Things go right for a while, about mid way they don't, and then at the end the results flop back to the beginning of the game. It is really weird to see. My opponent commented on it too.

Made for some fun games though...

Just the other week had a game.

I was forget exactly what is flying and my opponent was flying a doom shuttle with five ties.

All together there was 11 ships on the table and only one couldnt shoot.

After all 10 fired the only damaged that happened was from the crit from vader.

We were kind of surprised.

A lot of nice rolls on both sides.

In another game (this was a while back) I had something like a bounty hunter, and interceptor, and something else (think it was ties, maybe Sontir Fel so long ago don't remember) but I remember it was something like 11-12 dice that I had dice.

Attacked an awing. Focus fired the crap out of him.

Not a scratch.

His turn to shoot, he killed two of my ships in one shot.

Needless to say I conceded after that.

The dice gods were against me

From now on when the dice fail me, I'm going to burn one and make the rest watch.

After which I'll keep the remains of the burnt dice on display as a reminder to the rest of them.

This is what happens when you fall me for the last time
