Jax with shield, hull and ptl comes at 36 pts. What will you shoot the YT with? ![]()
Fel the Only Interceptor Worth Flying
Squints are great ships that just so happen to be extremely easily countered. And for the price, SOMETIMES its hard to justify including in a list.
IMO, every single list should have a flanker.
Backstabber, squints or phantoms do the best here. If you can afford a high end flanker, go phantom. A low cost flanker,go Backstabber. Somewhere in between? Squint.
one small issue I find regarding Interceptors is that the Phantom does pretty much the exact same thing but much better, for not too much of an increase in point cost. At the same time, anything that is being tried and tested to take out Phantoms works equally well, if not better, at taking out an Interceptor.
Turr Phennr is pretty good, but with all the 360deg weapons and PS12 / PS10-11 around you are much better off with Soontir

Once you spend the points on Jax with PTL, those next seven points are a good investment that I don't think could be much better spent.
Edited by AlexWAlthough its possible for him to help out, carnor max is certainly not a counter to falcons. That's just absurd.
Over a 1/3rd of your pts dedicated to a 3 atk, 3 hull (base) ship that can easily be taken out in a single round of combat. Its not like the falcon doesnt have help as well. Not to mention the if the falcon is being flown by a competent pilot, Jax would be target number 1 instantly.
Maybe Jax + mini swarm but even that would be easily countered by many other list. Jax is a great pilot. But falcon killer, he is not.

Of course, Jax also brings friends and he can bring more than the falcon. Since he's an 8 you can make it very hard for your opponent to get more than one gun (the Falcon's) trained on him
In my experience, it's anything but absurd. I admit I wasn't sure how well he would fare when I continued bringing him in heavy falcon meta, but he is actually very, very good and I'm really not itimidated by falcons. I've been playing Jax regularly for months and have a very good record against falcons.
Beats me. I fly Rebel, and haven't actually tried interceptors more than once or twice. (I'd like to, but my opponent/wife forbids me from touching her ships. I guess I should try Vassal)
I think it may be because the meta is often about taking lots of un-upgraded ships, and I can see how that would give the interceptor a glass cannon reputation.
A royal guard pilot with hull + shield upgrade is just as tough as an e-wing, costs the same as the blackmoon pilot, has *3* more PS, a better dial, and has the equivalent of an engine upgrade for free. Seems like a good deal to me. True, the e-wing has more potential for upgrades, but then it starts costing a lot more. The loss of target lock might bother some I suppose, but I've always found the delay between acquiring a target lock and actually using it to be hard to overcome. I usually end up taking focus. I'd gladly trade target lock for engine upgrade most of the time.
Looking at the results of the recent tournaments going on around the world, would you say that Interceptors are a dying breed apart from Fel?
Before Wave 4, Interceptors were king and we saw a lot of high PS interceptors winning tournaments.
Now that has largely faded.
Curious if you think it's because people are just caught up in trying out the new ships?
Why aren't pure high PS interceptor lists taking top 8-16?
Fel, Turr, Kir, Jax, Lorrir... they're all fun, aren't they? Turr especially is HILARIOUS.

My point is, Jax is a wash vs falcons. His ABILITY is great vs falcons, sure. But a squint gets eaten alive by falcons.
Put it all together, and it evens itself out. Its a wash and very far from a counter. He helps, but he is not scaring a falcon anytime soon.
The mini swarm you fly him with would be 5 times more of a threat to a falcon then Jax is alone. You can't kill a swarm in 1 combat round. You can very easily kill any squint in 1 round.

As I said, I've played him a lot and in a lot of different lists, but since Wave 4 hit it's been almost always 3 small-ship lists (as I mentioned above)and it's actually been better. My experience is that his utility in making the falcon title and crew like rec spec, and more subtly, making 3PO's zero guess worth one evade is all very valuable and key in taking the falcon down quickly as well as limiting it's damage.
If he's a wash with the falcon, that's a darn good investment since he is a lot cheaper;) Seriously, though, if people want to try combating a falcon with something that isn't another falcon or phantom, I'd encourage people to try Jax for a few games and there's still plenty of room to build a list around him with whatever play-style suits.

Throw Carnor against a super falcon and there goes his evade.
How do you make Carnor survive vs a Falcon?
Usually 4 red dice with predator/gunner/marksman/whateverImissed means almost certain death.
Enlighten me. for science.

Works if you know you won't be exposed to other guns.

Yes, but that's also why when i face a falcon and i have Carnor, he's pretty much a sacrificial lamb.
