Twelve attack dice are better than Sixteen (?)

By Babaganoosh, in X-Wing

Would dual falcons be an anomaly then? They only have two 3-dice attacks, and both are 1 agility, yet it is a pretty strong squad (after upgrades).

Statistically yes, but that's because it has a turret and has so much health that it stays alive longer, increasing its effective damage output relative to several smaller ships. It has a durability of about 2.49, so:

2*2.49*2*1.76 = 17.5

Cost: 42+44 = 86

If you can make your enemy's ships miss one third of the time, then your durability effectively increases by 50%. And the fact that the ship takes forever to kill means that it increases its effective damage over the entire game - maybe consider this another 20% boost.

So overall you may be looking at something like (2*2.49*1.5) * (2*1.76*1.2) = 31.5

And you still need to consider Gunner, Pilot abilities, pilot skill, and other upgrades like C-3P0 and Millennium Falcon. It still isn't nearly as efficient as a TIE Swarm, but if you play to its strengths it is very good, especially in the late-game with the C-3P0 + MF + Gunner loadout.

100 points

Chewbacca + Gunner + C-3P0 + Millennium Falcon

Lando + Gunner

One of the basic measurements of the offensive potential of an X-wing list is the raw attack dice output. If you're on this forum, chances are you're used to seeing lists evaluated by simply counting up the total number of attack dice. For example, a TIE swarm with eight TIE fighters puts out sixteen attack dice. And sixteen is better than the twelve attack dice a typical four-ship rebel list puts out... or is it?

I don't think anyone except the inept have ever used that as a measurement of the power of a list.
