Meatbags & force chokers: Non rebellion era limited edition ships

By brutalferret, in X-Wing

I want X Wing to remain Rebellion era, and I think limited edition production is a bad idea.

I respect that. How would you feel if FFG made a miniature of the Ebon Hawk (or some other iconic "far from rebellion era" ship) in the style of XWMG but not as an XWMG release?

who in the hell would ever pay money for a ship with upgrade and pilots cards to just put in the closet or shelf whatsoever !!!

When its the only way to get Hobbie, Porkins and the rest of the Standard playable pilots/upgrades I did, my transport is sitting on the shelf and very unlikely to ever be played.

for anyone wanting limited edition ships I hear Shapeways can make you just about any ship you like, most prominent ships have been 3D modeled somewhere and you can always house rules for your pet ship if your so inclined.

The coolest thing I can see them doing is printing 3 separate compatible games ranging for TOR, Prequels and our current OT/EU. Have the tournament scene be divided up into 4 different formats: TOR-only, Prequel-only, OT-only and Legacy (all ships from all formats and still restricted by factions).

Will it happen? Not likely. Will it be awesome? Of course it would.

Both suggestions are intriguing... I say!

I would prefer FFG rebrand it a prequel game with a mechanics twist, and have it be incompatible with X-Wing as is.

If they ever came out with a Prequel game. You will see a true division on this board. People who want to compatible rules and those who don't. As for me if that day comes I want them compatible so I can plat casual games without having to make conversions and house rules. Tournaments is a hole different matter. But as you already have Epic and Standard it would just be a different level to add prequel.

As for limited. The only limited that I could be for is Alternate Paint schemes. Then have the limited last for a year. That way you have the whole year to make one of the Cons that FFG would be at to get your hands on one.

Limited edition third faction prequel Star Destroyers. With cloak.

Let's do this.

If they make a prequel game on it's own I hope it's the same rules and play format.

I'd be willing to compromise and say you can't play prequel ships vs OT ships in tournaments, but if the rules are the same then playing in casual games would certainly work and be fun.

I'd love to see some Old Republic ships - the Sith Fury, the Ebon Hawk, the Basilisk (from KotOR 2), the Sith Fighter (KotOR 1+2), and so many other of the amazing ships from that period.

This gives me nightmares of X-Wing turning into Magic. The constant edicts that would come down from on high about what's legal, what isn't etc. would be enough to drive me out. The first time they put out an expansion in which the ship isn't legal, but one or more upgrades are, would be ridiculous. I'm fine with spin-off games that aren't directly compatible, though.

As has been pointed out some of the prequel stuff ia still, in some cases retroactively, floating around during. The.rebellion. ARC and Y wing being prime examples.

This would be a lot like someone refusing to play the Falcon title card on any other pilot but Han because in that era he was the only true pilot of the MF.

Actually all the named pilots fly the Millennium Falcon at some point in the movies.

Thus the "true" modifier... and I wasn't talking only about the movies; people who take it to the extreme of only the ORIGINAL 3 count are another ball of wax...

You mean like they did with the transport and the Tantiv?

I would much rather buy an ARC-170 that can't be used in standard tournament play but still fun in casual standard 100 point games if it happened to come with upgrades that were standard legal. Not only for the ship but the relative cost.

Don’t get me wrong, I love C-3PO but could have quite happily had him, Han Crew, R2-D2 Crew & Leia as huge ship only and it wouldn’t have bothered me. But the cost to buy those 4 cards is prohibitive as it stands.

I also secretly really want the Arc as I believe it I the perfect shape for a unique 2 x 1 base size but I don’t think FFG will do it any time soon.

Chewie... the untrue pilot. :)

Oh so it was the force flying the falcon while han and luke shot TIEs.

Got it.

I am really pretty confident in stating here and now for the record. The odds of seeing a non Rebellion Era craft are ZERO.

How can I make such an absolute statement you ask? You can't possibly know what FFG will release you say. Yes you are right but I ask you this. Can you show me any other products that are set in another Era? Anyone? A Card Game? A Role Play Game maybe?

This is a poor horse that has been absolutely flogged to death. Until such thime as something offically comes out, it's time to bury the poor beaast and just freaking let it go.

PS: Also the Ewing is rebellion Era now apparently. Just remember the New Republic when it was formed still controlled less than half of the cizilized galaxy. That means they are still fighting a Civil War.

Z-95. Earlier than 31 BBY.

YT-1300. 75 BBY.

Both ships are literally older than The Trade Federation's attack on Naboo.

So before you start throwing, "Rebellion Era only" around, do everybody a favor, and fact check.

Just a tip, if you google a ship and NOTHING comes up, it's not going to be made.

And why make a limited run of ships that many players won't buy since they aren't legal for tournaments? When they can make a full run of ships that are, and sell them to ALL the players? Not a good business move. Minis aren't something that you can do print-on-demand like cards. It's a HUGE investment to get a mold made.

Fact Check were that the YWing and Headhunters used in the Rebellion Era were used but cause they were constantly being tweaked and upgrade because they were built that way. Other craft like the ARC170 and so forth were scrapped because the amount of maintaince required to keep them effective was not cost justifiable.

Once again show me a single non Rebellion Age Product Line. I think its lacking should be speaking volumes.

Now as a small concession to the star eyed dreamers. I think I remember reading FFG was going to break the Role Playing up into 3 books. So there is a chance the unreleased book might be Clone Wars but it could just as easily be post Emperor. So until it is please folks give it a rest and enjoy what you have.

Force and Destiny is book #3. It's Jedi stuff, but I think it's set after Age of Rebellion.

The difference between pre imperial and rebellion isn't as linear as alot of people think. V19 Torrents are clone wars fighters and yet they served in the imperial navy for years after. Military craft doesn't just disappear, the ships hit secondary markets and so on.

It's similar to used cars in a way.

So you're just ignoring the fact that my simple post showed you exactly what you asked for.

You're one of those guys.

First post... ok.

During my frequent guest visits on this marvelous forum of great ideas and egocentric rants, I've come across a lot of "ship wishes" that don't really fit into the rebellion time frame. My stance on this matter is that FFG should try to keep the game true to the rebellion era.

That said... what I do know is that the miniatures of XWMG is exquisite, and for that reason I suspect that there's more money to be made for FFG... while still being able to please the "many few" who want iconic different era ships. Should these postulated ships be legal for official tournaments? No, I don't think so. I don't really care about obscure EU ships like the Spionmeuve 76X or the Kuk Beta 2, but there's probably some ship miniatures that would sell well based on fame alone. The Ebon Hawk (as made famous by KotoR), for example.

I propose the following wish/solution...

A special limited edition run based on market demand, NOT tournament legal, but usable during casual play.

Ok.

Haven't read this whole thread, but Shapeways should help with this sort of thing. What we should do is come up with a "community standard" for non FF Star Wars ships. That way people could have their Arc Fighters and have meaningful comparisons.

One of the really good things with FFG's miniatures is that I don't need to be a 40K painter to enjoy beautiful AND coloured miniatures. Shapeways may help, but as it is right now... http://www.shapeways.com/forum/index.php?SQ=0&t=search&srch=ebon+hawk&field=all&forum_limiter=&search_logic=AND&sort_order=DESC&author=

There's no such miniature to find.

Looks like I need to find a really good miniatures artist, both when it come to 3D printing and painting the result of the printed product.

NO Limited Editions. I hate this in a game to the point where if I'm playing it I quit, or if I'm not playing it I won't even consider getting a demo. It's the main reason I won't play Attack Wing, along with the crappy paint jobs and modelling compared to X-Wing.
