Meatbags & force chokers: Non rebellion era limited edition ships

By brutalferret, in X-Wing

First post... ok.

During my frequent guest visits on this marvelous forum of great ideas and egocentric rants, I've come across a lot of "ship wishes" that don't really fit into the rebellion time frame. My stance on this matter is that FFG should try to keep the game true to the rebellion era.

That said... what I do know is that the miniatures of XWMG is exquisite, and for that reason I suspect that there's more money to be made for FFG... while still being able to please the "many few" who want iconic different era ships. Should these postulated ships be legal for official tournaments? No, I don't think so. I don't really care about obscure EU ships like the Spionmeuve 76X or the Kuk Beta 2, but there's probably some ship miniatures that would sell well based on fame alone. The Ebon Hawk (as made famous by KotoR), for example.

I propose the following wish/solution...
A special limited edition run based on market demand, NOT tournament legal, but usable during casual play.

Ok.

I could see this as a possibility! Since I'm not very knowledgeable on the SW Timeline, what is the Rebellion Era?

No

No

Ok.

No.

If this game goes the path of Attack Wing with limited run ships I will stop supporting it. The equal access to ships makes the game balanced, and easier for new players to get into.

What a horrible idea.

Ok. What if the cosmetic lim. ed. was skipped, then?

The XWMG takes place during the Rebellion Era. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rebellion_era

Thank you! This seems like it's limiting it too much! I would think most of us want at least ships from the future trilogy as possibilities as well! I don't want to see prequel ships however...

This is just what I'm talking about. I don't want prequel ships either, but there's sure people out there that want 'em. Non tournament legal ships might do just this, without screwing the balanced game that is XWMG.

TO DEATH WITH THIS HERETIC !!! who in the hell would ever pay money for a ship with upgrade and pilots cards to just put in the closet or shelf whatsoever !!! me not just sayin. dis is a heorrible idea, i would like to see pirate ships and some prequel stuff even Eu but limited ships that are not legal at touarnement play ? so u just want to fly with wave 1-2 ships only ? if u do so do it alone and get many touarnement and casual game losses my friend ;P

Except it will affect the balance as most games people play aren't tournament games. It puts people that don't want to pay against them in the position of refusing to play against people that do.

FFG wouldnt make this 3 factors

factor 1 no profit

factor 2 no profit and losses cause the win they would make with these limited ships couldnt comprahand the costs

factor 3 the community how would they react to limited ships ? id say negative ( like i do )

Casual gaming? Not having reasonable friends to play with? Didn't realize this was such a problem.

Terrible idea.

All in or none. If you're making them then they fit the system and don't unbalance anything and are made to be played. If you choose not to Play or Buy them due to "era concerns" that is your choice. This would be a lot like someone refusing to play the Falcon title card on any other pilot but Han because in that era he was the only true pilot of the MF.

Limiting people's choices on legal material based on personal bias is bad in general by it's REALLY bad business.

And chase figures are always a terrible idea. Always.

They've already broke the "rebellion era" mold by including the e-wing. So I say that should make any ships from the movies, tv shows, video games or other eu fair game.

True, but the old republic (as the ship in my example) is ... really old. If the general player don't have a problem with this, I'm ok with it too.

I totally agree with you, when it comes to the points I've quoted from you.

Actually all the named pilots fly the Millennium Falcon at some point in the movies.

Limited edition ships would be very bad, it's one thing handing out ships at events a few weeks before retail release but quite another releasing ships you can get only at conventions especially if your running an internationally popular game, then it becomes pay to win.

Everyone having equal access preserves balance, when your game becomes poorly balanced like 40k has people start to leave in droves.

Chewie... the untrue pilot. :)

Just give up trying to gain support and silently hope FFG makes our prequel dreams come true like me.

I agree. That kind of lim. ed. would be really sad. I didn't realize there's so much cheer for owning every ship released, even if not tournament legal. I'd sure love to see a non limited edition of the Ebon Hawk. Seems strange that you guys seem so accepting when it comes to non era (kinda) ships. But it does seem like the non tournament thingy is a real no-no.

Let me rephrase... (and something tells me this suggestion will be even less popular)

How would you like to see the old republic Ebon Hawk being part of a future wave, tournament legal and NOT a limited edition?

Edited by brutalferret

I don't want to see limited edition ships. What I would like to see are different versions of the same game.

For Clone Wars, their should be a clone wars starter and waves for that using the same basic rules.

I know the EU is dead, but I would have loved to see a version for post Rebellion era. I would be happy to see a version for Legacy era myself. Mynock vs eyeball would be great.

In this way, they get to keep balance, add ships and factions, but keep them in the eras they belong.
