Why do so many people think there must be more to Wave 5?

By Vorpal Sword, in X-Wing

Looking through patox's thread on predictions for GenCon, I'm surprised to find so many posters expecting to see two more ships released as part of Wave 5.

And I'm genuinely curious: what's the evidence for this? I think FFG's been fairly explicit about the fact that Wave 5 consists of two ships, but have I missed something?

Nope, there are two large base turretted ships for Wave 5. People are creating groundless speculation based on the precedents FFG has set in the past, but their articles regarding Wave 5 are quite clear. In fact, I think the fact that the first new preview article was a full page about a single card is just another hint that we have seen everything there is to see and are just waiting on text for the other cards. They are saving a lot for later, among the cards we have already seen but don't have the text for.

Wishful thinking. I was hoping for a TIE Droid.

Really though, it's probably based on the fact that there's always been 4 ships per wave release. Even with Large ships, there was always 4:

-Falcon, Firespray, A-wing and Interceptor

and

-Lamda, B-wing, HWK, and Bomber

I don't think you've missed anything, I happen to agree with you. I think people are just hopeful for more in the wave, but FFG has given no indication to making wave 5, 4 ships.

I understand that they they might like more ships in it.. I kinda wish it was a 4 ship release as well.. there is no indication of it though so...

Humans are pattern recognition engines and the need for our brains to fit things into a recognized pattern is really the primary cause of much of the worlds suffering. Four waves each of four ships (including some that had other large ships) established a strong pattern in people's minds and some just can't get past that.

Really nothing more to it than that.

Also with the Decimator being priced higher, that may be part of the reason... just a thought.. no real basis for it, just my opinion.

Keep in mind also that the Decimator is supposed to be a bit bigger than past large ships.
EDIT: That guy above me got it as I typed. Darn.

I may have wanted the 4-ship-per-wave thing at first, but the more I see my wallet get thinner and thinner, the more I'm okay with it

Yeah when we were living in caves being able to see connections in everything let us see predators, but it's also responsible for creating religion and the unending number of tv shows about ghost hunting.

So yeah it's two ships everyone live with it.

Ahem.........

(In my best Yoda voice)

Always 4 there are. No more, no less.

People have grown accustomed to having more than two ships per wave... However FFG CLEARLY stated that wave 5 is these TWO ships.

Relax people we already know the Imps are getting some Huge Ship loving eventually.... so it's not like nothing else is coming.

Also, wouldn't it be safe to say, each wave has been between $60 and $90 retail! This one is at $70, hence maybe they found the "sweet spot" for sales! ;)

Change is scary for many

Wishful thinking - give me MoAR!

I don't think we'll see more.

But, I think they should ditch the term 'wave', if they're not going to put out more than 2.

This does make some sense.

A two ship "wave" does seem a bit crazy when we've seen all of these one-of releases. It isn't even like those two large ships are going to need to be used in numbers to see a "wave" of new ships coming in as a bunch of new ships appearing in multiples.

We've always seen 4, until we've only seen 2.

It's throwing everyone off.

It's good they're throttling down on the new releases. I haven't even tried my E-Wing or TIE Defender yet.

The only other thing I want from this wave is a modification (or EPT at worst) that provides defense against turrets, such as "enemy ships roll 1 less attack die (to a minimum of 2) against this ship when this ship is not in the primary firing arc." They have swamped the game with giant turret ships and are killing nimble ships in the process. Make it a mod so that ships like the Phantom can't benefit as much without giving up ACD, but Interceptors, A-Wings, and other ships aren't just getting pulverized by a bunch of cheap turret attacks.

I realize there is zero percent of this happening with two turreted ships, but I still want it.

Let's also not forget that wave 5 is already at the printer with just the 2 ships. Gen con will be announcing other products. Yes probably a huge ship.

And change it to... ? Iteration?

I'm curious why some many people seem to think there will only be one imperial huge ship initially. From the moment I first saw the two rebel ones at gencon last year I have been expecting two imperials of similar type. Yet I have seen a lot of comments like this one

Yes probably a huge ship.

Because they've already had the Tantive, the Transport, Wave 4 and soon will have Rebel Aces so far this year. How many more ships do you want/can afford in one year? Seriously.

That indicate an assumption of just one.

Many people are guessing that the Epic Points system represents a linear value, meaning that, if the empire gets a ginormous warship like *cough* a star destroyer (not likely), it would probably cost 4-5 epic points, not leaving much room for another in an epic matchup, unless the other is only 1 point. I am of the opinion they are NOT linear, and we will get a 3-point huge ship with weapons and a 2 point one without attacks.

To be honest, though, neither thought has any real grounding and they are both just wild speculation. We shall see quite soon.

Since even if imp huge ships are previewed at the show the evidence is that they won't actually get released until the middle of next year I don't really see how that is all that relevant.

Because every wave before Wave 5 had 4 ships.
