Anybody else play Star Trek attack wing?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

The reason I ask is my secondary LGS sells the bases and posts for those ships as stand alone items. I was just asking about replacing my posts yesterday, and wanted to know if they matched the Xwing posts/bases so I could just snag those.

Oooh good question!

Even if they do match it would only be for casual games since they wouldn't be tournament legal.

No i don't like how the models look so never tried it.

Just checked for you mate, they slot into the swars bases like a glove but I can't confirm that they fit into the slots on the ships as I have removed all mine in favour of magnets. If they are a semi-circular affair then I would say not a problem, if the swar ships have a triangular slot then it's probably a no go. Hope this helps

I do not play both but I do know the bases are NOT the same. The Trek bases are basically square with a cutout for the template spot. The X-wing ones are slightly smaller squares and have nubs for the templates. By the tourney rules, this makes the attack wing bases illegal for tournaments since they would be considered to be a different size/shape.

They work.

When I was in Kissimmee, Florida (Family vacation doing the Disney Parks) I had brought an Imperial list across the Atlantic to play some X-Wing in their monthly casual tourney (Daddy needs his vacation time as well) and played an oppenent at the Coliseum of Kissimmee who used them in casual play.

I have been told that they don't match. The bases are slightly different in size and that the posts won't fit x-wing ships.

TIEs look awesome with green bases. Are the bases the exact same dimensions as X-wing bases?

No. The bases are different shape so you can't use them in FFG sanctioned tournaments.

The biggest question for me is the posts. And that photo seems to seal the deal for me.

So the rod for Attackwing DO work with X-Wing ships and bases? I have no interest in the bases, but the rods would be a life saver!

I asked on a different forum a few weeks back and was told this was the difference...

"the X-Wing bases have two "nubs" designating where the movement template is supposed to go wheras the attack wing bases have an actual indent for the template."

Im sure casual is fine of both sides are using the STAW bases?

The green on the Empire ships above does look cool!

The bases and posts work fine. A few my buddies have them and look fantastic - much better than the clear plastic.

They are slightly different design. Overall, the footprint of the base is the same size. However, instead of nubs that jut out from the base, the base extends the entire length of the front and back.

So yes, technically, they are not tournament legal. Casual games no problem. Again, they look awesome on the table so I don't mind if my opponent uses them.

If you do some Google searching (especially boardgamegeek.com), you can find a lot of methods for painting the normal bases. Some people have even used Sharpies.

Wouldn't it be legal to paint the inside of your bases?

Not quite the same, I know - but could look nice.

As others have said Attack Wing bases are not legal for tournament play being longer than the X-wing bases. That said, the bases for Attack Wing are the one thing that Wiz Kids did better than FFG did with the bases for X-Wing

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought of this when I read the thread topic lol.

I was going to offer a quick answer to the OP's titular question: "No, and neither should you!"

Even if they do match it would only be for casual games since they wouldn't be tournament legal.

LOL!

Made me think of this:

I do play both.

Posts: I'm not sure how they've worked for others, but they aren't interchangeable for me. X-Wing posts are pie slice shaped on the top while Attack Wing are half circle shaped.

Bases: As others have noted, the bases are not the same size. You could do so in fun games at home, but not any tournament.

they will fit, though you have to force them on. Its great for me because I want to leave them in the ship (they stay in there very snug) the only problem I have is the base likes to fall off because its a little loose

The pegs are tourny legal I believe

I have heard that you can glue rare earth magnets on any attack wing/X-Wing posts and ships for interchangability.

Could be an urban myth though...not sure.

No , its inferior.
