If you're not playing X-Wing, go watch Guardians of the Galaxy!

By patox, in X-Wing

The Fifth Element had a lot of comedy in it too, and it is one of the best of the all time cool Sci-Fi films.

If I were to agree with you any more my face would explode, turn green and end up looking like Waaagh

When a film gives you solid reasons to: laugh, cry, feel exhilarated, and even feel creepped out a bit... dammit that is just a great movie!

:D

Make sure to stay for the very, very end.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hide in the back row of seats to sneak into the next showing.

Stop reading this. I ain't going spoil anything. Go out and watch Guardians of the Galaxy.

I thought it was great, 9/10. A lot closer to Avengers than something like Iron Man 3. Sure it had a lot of silly stuff, but it's a different quality than Michael Bay's idea of silly, and it had some emotional gravity as well—a good balance.

Also thought the ship design was overall pretty neat.

If you dislike superhero movies, is Guardians still worth seeing? Seems more space adventure/sci fi than superhero, but it is Marvel. I find most of the superhero epics to be boring CGI porn. Does this one have any life?

EDIT: to put it another way, if are the sort of person who enjoyed Star Wars enough to be reading a message board for a Star Wars miniature game, you are probably the sort of person who will enjoy this film the most.

Honestly despite having a talking raccoon and giant tree the CGI was not terribly noticeable. Until the after credits funny scene.

Groot and rocket were both very well animated and excellently voiced.

I like the tree guy. But that talking raccoon just looks so stupid.
I was never a big comic book guy, so I saw this and had a huge wtf moment.

No desire to see it. Lose the critter and maybe I'll consider it, but really it just looks like a trumped up action explodey thing with an out-there plot.

Superheroes just aren't my thing.

As already said it's more a space opera than a superhero film, it's getting 9/10 ratings for a reason and to dis it because it has a cgi cast member is being small minded.

If you don't want to see it that's fine but do you need to look down your nose at those who did see it and enjoyed it? Your being very dismissive of alot of people's opinions.

That said, having seen the film, the character is one if the best parts of the movie. If you like Han Solo or Jayne from Firefly, you'll probably like him.

Just to clarify, I never intended to belittle anyone else's opinions; I was just giving my own. Sorry if it came off that way.

There was a raccoon in the movie?

I didn't notice.

I don't notice species. I just see an AWESOME character.

The Milano is a great looking ship. Not sure I've thought something was that cool since Star Wars.

Saw it last night, loved it.

And for us old codgers the soundtrack was epic. I'm going to get a CD of it today (if it's out).

Just back from seeing it tonight, was **** fun and pretty to watch and the spaceships looked cool :)

only thing I was WTF about was the post credits cameo Nope Nope Nope do not want to see that character again.

Yeah, that's the only post-credits scene I wish I hadn't seen. And being right there at the end, it was kind of hard to think about anything else. Didn't quite ruin the experience, but it certainly diminished it.

I thought it was great. The original (spoiler redacted) comic book, while a bit dated now, was a pretty trippy bit of satire for its time. I liked it.

...dude spoiler warnings exist for a reason.

Sorry, do you think it's generic enough now?

Yes, it's just some are so spoilerphobic I don't want you getting raged at is all.

Me I thought the best bit was when that guy did that thing.

I just imagined it as a farscape movie. Not that I needed to, I just wish more farscape existed.

Edit: to be honest this is a movie filled with explosions, unnecessary fighting and cg. It does squeeze in a lot of back plot and character development for a large cast of new characters. The previews don't spoil even half of the funny bits, the characters are lots of fun, the movie flys by and I wanted to see more.

Took the wife and saw it at the Imax ; we were both looking forward to seeing it...10 min into it and I took off the 3d glasses...Another Disney movie made for kids...A lot of adult subject matter...I am nott Groot...

I think being put off by an uplifted raccoon is odd considering the main characters of six Star Wars films are a mobile garbage bin and the robot from Metropolis.
