Anti-Stress list?

By Lord Master Igneus, in X-Wing

So my friend is going to be playing me in a game soon and he is going to be playing as rebels, and he'll be able to throw out maybe 5 stress tokens on my ships a turn.

How should I counter this?

Yorr, Wingman + ships with lots of greens.

Captain Yorr (24)

Black Squadron Pilot (16)
TIE Fighter (14), Wingman (2)

A wings with Chardaan Refit (eventually). They laugh off stress.

This might be an epic level game, like 350 points, but those are also useful! In the case of the epic game I'm guessing Vader on Yorr would be useful?

Wingman is rather fantastic at more then just stress relief. It can really open up dials on ships that don't have a lot of green moves. Here's a squad that I like.

Mauler + VI

x2 BSP + wingman

x2 OGP + Adv Sensors

I run the OGP and BSP in pairs and Mauler floats around as a flanker ( I wish Backstabber had a EPT). Now the Shuttles dials are much more open. I can use Adv Sensors and take my action, then do a RED 2 turn. Black follows then removes the stress. I can now do that move again and turn around. I can stall multiple turns if I want and still get my actions. It opens up some surprising movement options.

This is good but I'd need to buy another Space Cow.

I do plan on herding them soon though...

If he is throwing out 5 a turn, I wouldn't try to neutralize it. Just find things that ignore it.

Here are some toys I'd play with:

Predator.

Gunner.

Yorr

Firespray (only reds are the K turns). Ditto on Tie Fighters.

FCS.

Ibitsam.

Tycho.

I'd probably play Kath + upgrades + miniswarm. Use the swarm to block him up and take his actions away and let him stress up a bunch of ships that don't care all that much.

If he's running Rebels and he's going for a stress build, then these are his options.

R3-A2 and Flechette Torps. If you want to counter this then High hull ships like the Shuttle, Bombers, or Firespray is the way to go. To counter R3-A2, kill him quickly ;)

And Tactician.

Forgot about Tactician. Only the YT and the HWK can run those, and Tactician is limited to range 2 and their printed firing arc. HWK's will struggle to use it once you move past them, and I'm fine if a YT is flying at me or K-Turning to try and keep Tactician in play.

I used what was suggested and my own ideas and got my ass handed to me. I think my biggest mistake was not breaking my mini swarm apart and not taking FCS. I took some ships from him and was able to flank his left with with Vader, Brath, and Echo who decimated it, Vader was able to loop around behind them with engine upgrade and also had outmaneuver. But He was using a GR-75 with slicer tools and frequency jammer. He got off 2 assault missiles on the mini swarm and the transport collided with and destroyed Kath and Vader. The Defender and Phantom were able to snipe well at range 3 with 4 dice.

I should have had more ships though.

Heres my list:

If his whole list is built to throw out lots of stress, then just kill his ships, a list designed to kill stuff should beat a list desigend to stress stuff.

That being said, I would recomend turrets. If you have a 360 firing arc then it doesn't matter if you do a green.

Next recomendation, build a list that doesn't rely heavily on actions. Gunners come to mind as a great upgrade that doesn't require you to use an action. HLC are another. Avoid things like missiles/torps and PtL lists.

Finally TYCHO with PtL. I know that I recomended avoiding PtL, but Tycho pretty much ignores stress and as long as you don't k-turn (and a boost makes that not too hard) you can have 100 stress tokens and still not care.
