So I had to get Vader...come on it's Vader!
Now I've watched some videos on him and how to use him as a decoy. Great. The video also said that this strategy is not great against mid range players and better.
So my question is...is Vader any good? I know the Advanced is frowned upon but there must be benefits to having Vader.
What are some other tactics that work with him? Which other ships should accompany him? Hopefully I am not just buying a ship that I won't use...but I just had to :-)
Vader is unique for having 2 actions without a penalty. This opens up a world of future possibilities. Vader is a good pilot. However, the TIE Advanced isn't currently used very much because when it was made, it was made to fill a niche that has since been filled by multiple other ships and in better ways. As a missile delivery platform, the TIE Bomber just completely wrecks it, both in capacity and in cost.
Give it some time though, TIE Advanced won't be a bad ship forever.

Having PS 9 and EU makes it slippery indeed, and Predator allows him to get shots on target!
I like pairing him up with Soontir with PTL! It's quite a pair on the table. I still haven't found a good way to round out the squadron tho!
I was thinking of trying Vader with proton rockets, outmanuever, and engine upgrade.... when Rebel Aces gets here.
Engine upgrade and outmaneuver is good on him
Little costly
Outmaneuver kind of makes up for only having two attack dice if you can get behind your opponent.
If you can he can be a real pain
Plus he can really get around with engine boost.
A lot like a interceptor, but with shields
Yeah he's pricy, but should be fun
Of all the Advanced Pilots, Vadar is really the only one worth playing. You can do some really fun things with him. With some of the cards out there now and coming down the pike, he's going to get a lot better. He's Vadar, so you kind of have to buy that ship.
So many great ways to play Vader.
He is a great support ship with swarm tactics or squad leader
Since he can pretty much TL at will he is really good with Outmanuver.
Two actions makes him and amazing flanker with Engine Upgrade.
He is one of th best missile shooter in the game.
I have run him with a Stealth Device and Expose with good results.
He is hard to pin down because he can turtle with a Focus and Evade with a 4 Agility in heavy traffic and he is near impossible to hit. If he gets behind a formation, he can Expose and Focus to do some hitting.
I have found that opponents tend to fixate on him so he draws a ton of fire allowing the rest of your fleet to do damage.
I think he is best either with a mini swarm for him to be a flanker or with more lone wolf ships that can operate independently. My Vader is not a team player.
Outmaneuver and engine up grade make him very deadly and probably the hardest ship to get a shot on.
Hmmm...I know it is expensive, but what if he had expose?

Simply put, he's Vader. If he doesn't want to get hit he won't. If he wants to hit, he probably will. The biggest drawback is he does need something to help his low firepower.

If he has Expose, he can turn into a 33-point, PS9 X-wing with no pilot ability. Since Wedge costs 29, that suggests to me that Vader + Expose is overcosted by at least 5 points.
Basically, we're all just waiting to see if, what, and when FFG will do something new with the Advanced, because Vader is fairly widely acknowledged as the only really effective pilot, and (IMO) even Vader is on the margins.

Yep!! Put PTL and Shield Upgrade on him to help his survivability too!

Shield or hull upgrade is also a good idea for survivability..
I personally like Vader, and the Advanced over all, one of my favorite ships. You can do a lot with Vader, he's just gonna cost you in points, because he's high priced..

No. Soontir Fel's is by FAR the best.
I didn't say THE best.. I said one of the best.. and personally I find Turr's ability better than Fel.. but that is my opinion...

WHAT?! Supa Soonta is absolutely the best ship in the game, not even close and Vader is the Worst, he is FAR too expensive for a 2 attack ship.
