Was thinking about the Y-Wing today and some questions came to mind.

It's been around for awhile... one of the older ships in the game. It stands to reason that other groups could have access to them. Do you think we could see Y-Wings re-printed for a new faction?

Pros:

It could introduce Y-Wing-Only modifications, which you could transpose to the rebels if you wished.

We might see a new Turret

Cons:

This would be a reprint, so the same old model.

It might mean more ion turrets.

I don't know, it seems like just an excuse to have a third faction, i would rather them just make a battle of Yavin Expansion with a fixed Y-Wing and TIE Advanced.

I would think at some point we might see a 'Rebel Aces II' where the Y-Wing would get a facelift, new paint job, new upgrades, stuff like that. It seems to me that they are trying to keep true to the movies and the Y-Wing was pure Rebel. So the idea it would be anywhere else in the games seems odd to me, let alone not fighting for the Rebels.

I think they should make a star destroyer.

No. No. No. The small Star Destroyers are a mile long, have 60 Turbolasers, 60 Ion Cannons, and would have about 150 hp.

Way unbalanced. Not that it wouldn't be fun to blast Rebel Scum into oblivion.

Y-wing Aces would probably give you a Grey Squadron Y-wing (which is the Y-wing elite) but it would be kinda bland. Would prefer a red Y-wing myself.

Y-wing Ace pilots? Probably Davish Krail (Gold 5, Y-wing veteran, did the trench run with Dutch Vander, is the one who says "Lost Tiree, lost Dutch! They came from behind!") as the PS5 and Grisserno, a Rodian Y-wing Ace and strategist who was Horton Salm's mentor, as the PS7. Or if they're doing Yavin there's Tiree.

See, I like that idea a lot more! Maybe Y-Wing Aces will be at GenCon!

They are in the process of keeping the game a fighter based system...The majority of the players have been asking for new pilots and upgrades...I think it is sweet when they started the ace packs...

The argument I've seen against that is it becomes either X-wing+, X-wing-, B-wing+ or B-wing-.

What would be interesting is a turret that lets you make primary weapon attacks outside arc. There's a turret the HWK can't take and be better at.

What would I suggest? Give it a crew slot and/or a bomb slot. Could have two competing titles or modifications.

I could see a 'Wave 1: Revisited' pack for example that wouldn't have any ships in it, but rather new pilots and upgrades for those wave one ships.

You're unlikely to see a pure card pack, if only because the models are how FFG justifies the price of an upgrade pack.

I'm not saying they're unjustified - they're gorgeous models and well painted - just that it goes outside their exisiting business model.

A repaint Y would be interesting. Grey Squadron's the obvious one, plus several named pilots. The main turrets are either a 'locked turret' - which might convert the turret slot into a cannon slot, or the old 'bubble turret' that clone wars era Y-wings got. Precisely what advantage it gives, I'm not sure - it gave the gunner better situational awareness; maybe a PS increase for firing order?

Also, the other obvious one is 'hull plating'. Most Rebellion Era Y-wings lack the hull plating - having it fitted as a modification could result in a slight durability upgrade?

Finally, a BTL-A4 'Longprobe' title is an obvious one. Precisely what it does is up to the designers, but 'recon' and 'sensors' as a concept generally involves action order or generating/passing extra tokens.

Yes, it could. But why? When there are so many starfighters out there unaligned to either the Alliance or the Empire, why?

I guess because it doesn't really 'feel' like Star Wars to have an unaligned faction. Its more like good guys versus bad guys. That's just my feeling on it.

Yeah they did or something along those lines. It was in an interview or something so I don't think anyone can provide you a link though.

Well that is interesting... You have to figure we have a new TV series coming out this Fall, a new movie next Christmas, more and more adding on to the Star Wars 'canon' universe that I am sure they would love to get into the game. It would surprise me if they restricted themselves to one time period.

Rebels will be close enough to the Original Trilogy's time period, that I'm willing to bet they will include it.

Fair point. Maybe we can see a Wave 1 style Aces pack where the X-Wing and Y-Wing are in a pack with new upgrades and pilots and the TIE/F and TIE Advanced gets blood stripes with new Pilots and Upgrades.

They said they wanted to limit it to the Rebellion Era, which would include the new TV show. But they also said that the Falcon would be the largest ship ever, so plans can and do change.

I think the X-Wing is the LAST ship that needs to be in a new pack. It's available as 3 separate releases already and has the most pilots of any ship. It also benefits from all the new astromechs that come out as well!
