Stay on Target Preview

By Boomer_J, in X-Wing

Stay on Target is a card that's useful if you're not sure how well you can fly your ship when you're chasing chumps in the late game.

Other than that it prevents you from taking much better Elite Pilot Talents like Predator, Outmaneuver, etc...

Yawn...

so for 2 pts you get SOT and what is it 1pt for the astromec for the talent.

Except that high PS is necessary to make this work. Who cares if your PS 2 ship can theoretically take this, you're never going to get any use out of it because you're moving first most of the time. Meanwhile almost all of the high-PS ships that could benefit from SOT consistently already have the EPT slot.

this can be a big buff for the use of say bigs to change his position to be at range 3 and wot not.

Biggs is only PS 5, which means he moves before a lot of ships in a metagame that is starting to favor high PS. Giving him SOT is almost a waste, a hull upgrade is probably a better use of those points.

I love that this started as a discussion an argument over Stay on Target

Then changed into why you can't cloak/decloak/quack like a duck twice

Now it's turned into the TIE Advanced discussion

Did we skip how turrets ruin everything? Or did I just miss that?

So what's next?

Probably Star Destroyers.

Or lunch discussion

I had poutine for lunch today. I'm not sure why this doesn't catch on more in the USA. Is it the lack of good cheese curds down there? Like... you've got gravy by the bucket, and even with your Re-Naming Escapade awhile back, you still have french fries. How do you not like cheese, fries and gravy?

What did everyone else have for lunch?

Mostly, I think that's it. Cheese curds are mainly a regional specialty here; they're not impossible to find, but not something you can just go to any grocery store and get, and they're typically eaten as a snack.

I also think poutine suffers for having a French name, which has a lot of cultural resonance for us; its sounds elite, gourmet, and Continental. If you asked a typical American if he'd like some cheese fries with gravy, he'd probably be okay at least trying it, but if you said "want some poutine?" you'd get a different reaction.

I'm going to be devils advocate here and question everything behind the idea behind this card. On the surface fet has been doing this a long time and it didn't see that much use, now I question this card.

1) Fett never interacted with Phantoms before.

2) Swapping banks isn't nearly as handy as swapping all maneuvers.

1) true and would you realy put this on a phantom, if it induces stress ( I think I'd does but let's not get into that) I don't think so plus does the phantom need it? Without VI this card is even more powerful against a phantom.

2) true but fet has been doing the like for a while with navigator, yes it's different but in the same ball park and made him special in his own way.

Also I think your kinda missing my point while reaffirming it. Kinda just cherry picking.

Generics get no benefit because the card does absolutely nothing if your pilot skill is lower than the opponent's.

As it stands now Boba Fett gets more benefit out of Stay on Target, at less cost, than any other pilot in the game. Hard to say if this will remain the case at/after release.

Your assuming that everyone will now just stop using low PS pilots, in most list I have seen that are doing the rounds there are still enough PS1,2,3,4 doing the rounds, look at the new HSF list for example, the good old shuttle variants use PS 2 handy for say anyone above to try and get out of say coping a vader crit.

Would you realy put this on fet if it causes stress?

I think cheese curds are about the only reason we keep Quebec. And for their maple syrup too.

I was going to get the "Double Pork Poutine" today, but I bailed on it when my co-worker ordered it for herself. I felt like going all hipster classic and just getting a traditional poutine. But the pile of fries, cheese curds, gravy, bacon and pulled pork did look pretty **** tasty.

So I am going to say one thing about this card....and its supposedly game breaking potential.

Fett has the same ability.....to change his maneuver after all the other ships have moved. Fett is in one of the strongest ships in the game...the fire spray. No one plays Fett, or thinks he is competitive in any way. Why do we now think that his ability will be a game breaker if we put it on another, less powerful ship, and cost that ship its EPT in the process?

Lets wait and see.

More than that, with navigator it gives access to what amounts to the whole dial, with a much needed Faq or it barely has a drawback.

Poutine is in the greater Portland area for sure. We usually skip the beef gravy though for tastier alternatives.

I skipped lunch today after a huge breakfast...that's off topic though so I won't go into the details...

If only you thought this too in 1980 and 1995.... but let's not get political here, shall we?

The tradeoff being that, well, you live in Portland. Hopefully you're at least spared the horror that is Gresham.

  1. This card is awesome. It encourages more elite pilots over low PS swarms. I love it.
  2. "Whisper" is female too. A pretty strong indicator that FFG reads, and adapts the game, from lots of feedback including this forum I love it.

but no mention on whether or not she is a Hutt. (she is)

...you ate New Mexico for lunch? I'm confused.

Well, to be fair... a classic poutine should have chicken gravy, at least in my world.

But I'm sure this could touch off an even bigger debate as to what the "right" gravy for a poutine is.

I'm currently fantasizing about starting a food truck that served just gourmet variations on poutine. Flaked duck breast with poultry gravy? Check! Sauteed pork belly and a pan gravy? Check! A dessert option using deep-fried plaintain cakes instead of French fries, with crumbled sweet cheese, under a rum-banana sauce? Check!

It's not quite gormet, but these are the guys I go to locally. And they have food trucks for catering too in case you need a poutine truck for your cousin's wedding.

Slugrage is right, chicken brown gravy is the best, close second BBQ chicken sauce and third spaghetti sauce.

Ate one yesterday with pulled pork, bacon and rib sauce in Quebec city... that was a good one.

And if you want variety, try this restaurant:

Honestly, I find it funny that someone could find something gourmet in a poutine. The basics one are still the best. And the best of the best are found in regions, not in the big cities. For the best ones, you need homemade fries, thick brown gravy and, very important, juicy cheese curds.

Looks nice! I'll have to go to Mont-Tremblant to try one!
