A question about FFG forum posters: Voting

By Lilikin, in X-Wing

Do people feel like they are voting about the future of the game and if they don't lodge/counter lodge their objections to some point/idea and FFG monitor them just to get our feedback and if we don't disagree they may do something we don't want?

(I wonder if people do this with the whole these are my models under the signature thing, they think they have a slightly heavier vote)

Or do you think like me we are just shooting the breeze (wasting time at work) about X wing and they don't really give a Scooby what gets posted here and any correlation is the monkey on the type writer sort?

Or some other combo?

Discuss...... (make sure you mention this game being a dog fighting game/star destroyers are too big and Having SW EP I,II & III before FFG makes those models and takes out any dogfighting ;))

They look at it but they trust their professional, proven and paid designers more than the users of their forum.

FFG care about money, making lots of money. The developers care about making a solid product. FFG trusts those developers and I dare say they lurk here in order to meet the need of both fans and the money making machine.

Well, has anyone here suggested that torpedoes should be able to fire in a 360 arc? Or that the rebels needed more turrets? Didn't think so.

You assume the forums represent all the people that buy XWing and that what we say will make them the most money, not sure I agree with those assumptions

This is NOT a democracy.

Old Adept

love the signature

I have NOTHING clever to say.

NO ONE cares about what ships I have.

NO ONE cares if I win or loose.

kind of my point

ha ha, true this certainly is not a democracy.

However this forum is an opportunity to give feedback. It is just a small sample of the players across the globe. It allows FFG to go and grab some feedback if they want, to place their finger on the pulse of the passionate.

Agreed. There's no reason for FFG not to look at the forums - they're paying to maintain and moderate them, after all, they might as well read them.

That said, they will pay attention to what is said. That's not the same as doing what is suggested. Certainly I don't expect to see anyone's suggestions lifted wholesale.

These forums are a wealth of free user feedback data for them. I would be all kinds of surprised if they didn't mine them for information, trends, overall feelings and general state of the game. Coming from someone who's a marketing coordinator myself, these forums represent a gold mine of information that any company would *love* to have about their products and some of their most passionate supporters (and spenders).

No, but if you plan to be a company that actually stays in business it would be wise to listen to your customers.

Does that mean do everything we say? Absolutely not. But keeping the pulse of your customer base is crucial to running a business in todays age.

I never have put my ships in my sig... I just dont see the relevancy.

I think many of us give our opinions .. just in case... FFG decides to look around and wonder what they could do next...

I think this is human nature though, to respond when we like, or dislike something...

Just so we're clear, all of your internet votes are worth only 3/5ths of mine.

Someone's grumpy. Deal with it. It's not like you're being forced to play imps.

Reb's have turrets. Sure. Now more than ever, they need them. It doesn't take any skill whatsoever to dance arcs with these new Phantoms.

And realistically, why wouldn't they use turrets?

I don't know why they wouldn't pay some attention. If the forums want Y-wing or TIE advanced packs or whatever, I would think they would at least consider it. They want to make products that will sell. The forums and sales numbers are pretty much the only input they would get on what we want.

No it's not the data from a forum (Generally) is very poor and you would have to have hundreds of highly trained people pouring over every post to actually get some kind of idea of the feedback in it's truest sense. Then actually find out how much people play the game (experience) and weight the results with that

It would be like asking in a survey for each person to write their own survey on a given subject then having to draw the answers from different questions.

I think this subject has proven my theory people have far to much weight on their own opinions, the forums are made to discuss and get us all excited about a game not provide any kind of meaningful feedback

Looking at them in any real sense is a lot more expensive than throwing a server up on the internet it is poorly organised data and that organisation will take a lot more time (thus money) probably by several factors than running a forum with a few thousand regular posters on for close to free.

I think they do it because they believe it will give them more weight in discussions than someone else.
