New Grenade Range

By Benu5, in Only War Game Masters

Hi everyone! I'm a new poster, but I've been browsing for a few months now and I've been wondering about the range of grenades.

It seems to me that a starting range of 9m is very short, barely out of the effective range of the grenade. So instead of SBx3, (SB+AB)x3 or (SB+BSB)x3, which would bring a starting character to around 18m-21m throwing range.

In modern millitaries, 30m is considered the (maximum effective) range for thrown grenades, so I think the 18-21m range for new guardsmen is much more appropriate.

Any thoughts?

I think you're forgetting that range is not the same as maximum range. You can throw up to four times as far: 36m is the maximum range for SB3 and 48m for SB4.

Granted, you will be penalized with a -20 to hit at max range, but you can throw up to twice the listed range without penalty. So 18 or 24 meters, give or take.

Good feedback guys, I can see the flaws now, throwing a grenade 84m is a bit of a stretch. Also realised this went into the GM board and not the House rules one, my mistake.

I use Only War rules for Rogue Trader games, and I just wanted to thank you for the mental image of my Explorator being able to chuck grenades farther with his bare hands than a grenade launcher can shoot them.
